TITLE: Giant Days Vol. 1
AUTHOR: John Allison
ILLUSTRATORS: Lissa Treiman and Whitney Cogar
PUBLISHER: BOOM! Box
PUBLISHING DATE: December 1, 2015
FROM GOODREADS: Susan, Esther, and
Daisy started at university three weeks ago and became fast friends.
Now, away from home for the first time, all three want to reinvent
themselves. But in the face of handwringing boys, “personal
experimentation,” influenza, mystery mold, nuchauvinism, and the
willful, unwanted intrusion of “academia,” they may be lucky just to
make it to spring alive. Collects issues #1-4.
MY THOUGHTS:
I
have seen this featured by a few individuals on Booktube so when I saw
it at my local library, I knew I had to grab it. Giant Days tells the
story of three girls who start university and quickly become best
friends. I enjoyed this tale of friendship and a lot of people will be
able to relate to their experiences. They are definitely an unlikely
group of friends but that element increased their likability - I
honestly don't know that I would have cared for any of the three
characters had they been on their own. I especially found the section
which addressed catching all illness while being away from home
particularly humorous. In fact, at one point, I laughed out loud at
their attempts to find a remedy which worked and yet still allowed them
to attend class. The artwork is bright and catchy and I would recommend
this book for anyone who enjoyed Nimona or Lumberjanes. While Giant Days
Vol. 1 didn't bowl me over, I did like it enough to be looking out for
the next volume.
MY RATING: 3 PAWS

This looks really fun. I haven't read any graphic novels about this time period. I'll have to see if my library has a copy!
