Weekly Reads (08/11/17)

I know there is plenty of summer left but I can't help but feel Fall is in the air.  That's okay with me because it's definitely my favorite season but I hope it doesn't come too quickly because I'm afraid it will be a precursor to a longer, colder winter.  I can say the pups have been enjoying the cooler evening temps and have been fully taking advantage of some extra walks.

The rest of the family is fine as well.  Grandpa is home and seems to be doing well.  He has lots of people checking on him which is good.  Football has started!  Yes, it's only preseason and honestly I prefer college but it's been nice to catch some parts of games.  I usually get some of my best reading done while Mr. Barb and I are watching football (it's all about the multi-tasking).

We ended up watching "Alien:Covenant" last weekend.  It was a decent movie but I still like the original the best.  There just didn't seem to be enough aliens in it for me.  And Lance Henrickson will always be the best droid in my book.  "Game of Thrones" was epic this week and I'll be honest, if one of Dany's dragons dies (and I think it may be headed there) - I'll never forgive George RR Martin or HBO.  Kill all the people you want (well, maybe not Jon Snow) but leave the dragons alone.  Also, we caught the first episode of "Mr. Mercedes" Wednesday night.  All I can say is AWESOME!  Stormi and I are reading the book together next month and I'm sure watching it will spoil it some but I couldn't resist.

I do plan on reading some this weekend and especially while watching the Steelers tonight.  I need to finish "Northwoods Magic" by next Friday but am already half way through so it shouldn't be a problem.  To be honest, I'm having a hard time finding something that holds my interest so I hope that changes or I may end up picking up something random and giving it a go.

So what are your plans this week???

  1. I'm glad to hear your grandpa is doing well-that must be a huge relief! We've had a warm muggy week but today is glorious cold and rain! That is more my kind of temperature and it feels right for my Deep Blue Terror Time! I didn't like Prometheus so I won't be looking at the others in the trilogy. I'd prefer a different sequel to Aliens with Ripley and Hicks back! I agree, this was a great Game of Thrones episode screened last week and I'm anxious for this next one!

    1. Sounds like you are having my kind of weather. It drizzled here on and off all day yesterday and was in the 60's. I loved it. As excited as I am, I can't believe we only have 3 episodes left!

  2. I'm struggling with finding reading time this week. There are always so many things I need to get done over the weekend, it's just not enough time. Who can invent a day of the week that's just for reading and nothing else??

    1. I feel ya. Sometimes I just basically say "nope, not gonna do it" and allow myself to read instead. The luxuries of having only 4-legged children in the house.

  3. The weather has made this the cloudiest, wettest summer ever...well it sure seems that way. Has it affected my reading? Maybe. I seem to be a bit off...and football. Now that definitely makes me think fall. :-)

    1. We've had lots of rain this summer too but in downpours. I miss the days of quite drizzle and showers, which is why I loved yesterday so much. I like college football better but I'll take it however I can get it at this point!

    1. I sure hope you don't get any massive downpours. We've both had enough of them this summer.

  5. I'm in the same boat as Tammy. There is just never enough time to read or do much of anything fun. I'll probably spend most of the weekend catching up on cleaning/laundry/boring shopping and keeping an eye on my Buddy who is struggling a bit this week. Have a great weekend!

  7. So glad to hear your grandpa is back home! <3

I too am looking forward to the fall, since it has been in the high 80's here all week, and SO muggy. I love the summer, but I won't miss the humidity!

  8. It's still steaming hot here. I walk outside and drip sweat before I make it to the mailbox. Good to hear your grandpa is home and doing well. Just got GOT from Netflix. Plan to start watching it this weekend. Not in any rush for fall as winter follows. LOL I don't do cold!

  9. I love the fall too! And since winter's not too bad here in San Diego, I don't mind that either Summer is actually my least favorite season. (I never heard of Mr. Mercedes. Going to have to look that up!)

Hey... can you email me - jackiebouchard@hotmail.com - so I can send you an ARC for the new book? :)

    1. My husband has always imagined San Diego as the perfect place to live. Considering he's never been there, I don't know what he is basing that opinion on :)

  12. Glad to hear Grandpa is home and doing well. How did I miss football being back on TV? I am a huge football fan but don't really watch a lot of TV. I will have to check the schedule.
