FROM GOODREADS: An all original anthology of stories inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. ‘Alice’ has been read, enjoyed, and savored by generations of children and adults since its publication. It’s hallucinogenic, weird, imaginative and full of wordplay, mathematical puzzles, and political and social satire.”
Mad Hatters and March Hares will features stories that are inspired by the strange events and characters that appear in Wonderland.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I know it sounds strange but I didn't like "Alice in Wonderland" when I read it and couldn't stand Alice. However, I liked the people/creatures/world she encountered so I quite enjoy Alice retellings. I fell in love with the cover of this book and couldn't resist adding it to my wishlist. It's a long wait though.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
Interesting cover! Definitely a bit of a long wait for you on this one!
ReplyDeleteI know, too long!
DeleteThat is an arresting cover, that's for sure. The editor Ellen Datlow is a queen in sci-fi/fantasy so that alone has be curious!
ReplyDeleteI've started her recent anthology, Black Feathers, but haven't gotten very far. I've heard only good things about her.
DeleteIt looks cool but I tried one Alice retelling and didn't even like it so I have decided that is one tale that is just not me. :)
ReplyDeleteLike I said, I'm OK with the retellings but I HATED Alice herself.
DeleteI'm not a Wonderland fan either! Actually I haven't read one single book inspired in wonderland BUT I've been pinteresting a lot lately and wonderland characters are so inspiring. So I may read one Alice inspired book soon and love them like you do :)
ReplyDeleteI think the original would have been great without Alice, but that kind of defeats the point huh?
DeleteOh this sounds cool. I like the idea of taking the different characters from the story and giving them a little story. Cool pick!
ReplyDeleteI like the cover too - creepy little fellow!
DeleteI haven't read Alice in Wonderland, but I hope you enjoy this one!

Thanks Sandy.
DeleteI'm sort of the same, I'm not the biggest Alice in Wonderland fan, but I do like some of the characters. I hope this is a fun read for you!
ReplyDeleteI have high hopes considering it edited by Datlow - everyone seems to love her.
DeleteI never really liked the original story either! But I've loved a lot of the retellings. This sounds like a fun one! Great pick! Thanks for visiting my Can't Wait Wednesday earlier on Lisa Loves Literature!
ReplyDeleteSounds like we are in the same boat then.
DeleteI hope you enjoy it, Barb. The Datlow anthologies are usually long and I find the stories a mixed bag.
ReplyDeleteI've started her other one I have but haven't gotten far.
DeleteI wasn't a big Alice in Wonderland fan, but this does sound like a good one.
ReplyDeleteI will always consider Alice a brat.
DeleteI had my eye on this one too! I'm worried that a lot of the stories will be too weird for me though, given the theme and all :)
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yea but I tend to like weird so hoping it works out for me.
DeleteOooh! I love a good Alice in Wonderland retelling! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

Thanks and I loved your pick as well this week.
DeleteI loved Alice in Wonderland mainly because of the people and the animals too. Hope you enjoy this book!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Can't Wait Wednesday
The animals were definitely a plus. I didn't know they were making a film about the March Hare.
DeleteI see Ellen Datlow is the editor on your pick. She's excellent. I'll have to add this one to my list. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI've heard lots of good things about her.
DeleteThis one is new to me. I don't read a lot of re-tellings but I hope you enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole.
DeleteOh, this sounds SO WONDERFUL!! (Pardon the pun, lol.) I was indeed an Alice fan when I was a kid, although it's been such long time since I first read the books, I really should read them again! I, too, loved all the strange, quirky characters in these novels. And oh, how I HATED the Queen of Hearts!! She just kept screaming, "Off with her head!" I thought the Mad Hatter was SO funny! And the Cheshire cat! You're making me want to run and get NEW copies of these books, since my childhood ones are a little battered.... PLUS now I want this books of stories, as well!! AWESOME PICK!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for always visiting and commenting on my CWW post!! Sorry for the late comment back.... :(
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TOMORROW!!!! HUGS TO YOU & YOUR FUR BABIES!!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
