TITLE: Downward Dog, Very Serious Haiku from a Very Serious Dog
AUTHOR: Samm Hodges and Phinehas Hodges
PUBLISHER: Animal Media Group, LLC
PUBLISHING DATE: May 16, 2017
FROM GOODREADS: A book of haiku and illustrations from the mind of Martin, the talking, angst-ridden, introspective dog from the ABC TV series, Downward Dog.
MY THOUGHTS: So after watching the first four episodes, I'm convinced Downward Dog is one the best new shows on TV. That's probably why I'm awaiting news of its cancellation. It always seems the shows I really enjoy never last.
Anyway, when I saw this book for offer on Netgalley, I immediately had to request it. It's a short book filled with Martin's thoughts and illustrations on the important questions in his life. I loved it and as soon as I can, I'm ordering a physical copy. It's that cute and a perfect book to read when you need a pick me up. Here's one of my favorite Martin thoughts and the one which my pups probably appreciated the most. He wrote it about a local cat:
"My enemy lifts his head from behind the fence - where I will bury him."
Classic Martin. If you love the show or dogs in general, do yourself a favor and check this one out!
I received this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest opinion.
RATING: 5 PAWS
BOOKER T'S THOUGHTS: Martin is actually Ned, a dog who spent over a year in a shelter in Chicago before being rescued and becoming the star many of us could become if only given the chance. All we want is a loving family and people to care about us and given that, there's no end to the joy we can add to lives. I love Martin/Ned and hope you do too!
I feel like I should know this show! That line you have up there is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely try to catch an episode. Martin is great and the voice they give him almost perfect.
DeleteHa! What a line! Thanks for introducing this. I never thought that such book exists. I am adding this on my cart now. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it!
DeleteI saw the beginning of the first show, I think I watched it on my phone, and it was very clever. I hope it survives too!
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely clever and the interaction between Nan, the MC and Martin is so good it's hard to believe he isn't her real dog.
DeleteLove the snippet. Hope the show makes it.

Me too!
DeleteI've never seen this show but it looks awesome. And I love books told from a dog's perspective!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy books like this as well.
DeleteThe rarely give new shows a chance. I'm always afraid to invest time in new ones for just this reason. I caught the tail end of it the other night and it looked great. I had forgotten all about it :( I didn't realize the dog was a shelter rescue. That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI know. I've seen it on Hulu too if you subscribe. I have all episodes DVR'd and saved because I figure it will be canceled. I LOVED Martin so much.
DeleteLol this does sound really cute and funny! Glad you liked it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristen. The more I watch, the more attached I get to Martin. He is somewhat depressed though IMO.
DeleteI missed the premiere of this show and I wanted to watch it so bad! I'll have to see if I can catch it again sometime. I didn't even know there was a book, I'm really missing out here. Lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's a short book but I think it's a great one to own. I love collecting physical dog books and am always on the lookout for some new ones.
DeleteI hope your series doesn't get cancelled. I hate when that happens to shows I like! Awesome that the book was so great. Yay! :) #getsocial17

Thanks for stopping by Jess. I've had so much fun with "GetSocial17
DeleteI haven't seen this show but I bet I would like it. This sounds like a fun book.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!
DeleteThis sounds like fun. Hi from Deanna's World. Glad to visit as part of the #getsocial17 event.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Deanna.
DeleteI don't have cable so I had no idea there was a show out there like this. I'll have to check out the book. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's on Hulu too and maybe you can even find it online.
DeleteI haven't seen anything about this show other than what you've said about it but I share your frustration with how quickly they cancel things we enjoy. For me every show should be granted 2 years to see if it can improve if it gets off to a tricky start. I agree with Booker T...every dog should be given a loving home as dogs do bring joy to your life.
ReplyDeleteWow I really like your 2 year plan. Wish more people would try that.
