Today is pretty much a digital haul. I actually purchased a book or two off of Amazon for my Kindle and grabbed a couple of good looking freebies. I then received a few digital copies. And oh yeah, I don't think I've shown you what I've grabbed from First to Read lately. First is the Amazon haul. "The Ghosts of Larkwood Asylum" was a total cover grab but hey, it was free so no harm, no foul. "Blackbriar" was $0.99 and it's about a haunted house so I grabbed it as well. I think it's at that price for the month of August. The same thing goes for "The Mountaintop School for Dogs and Other Second Chances" but it was $1.99. Finally "Loose Ends" was another free grab.
The following three are review ARCs I received from Netgalley. "She Be Damned" sounds like a good historical mystery. I had to find out "What It's Like to Be a Dog" because Booker and Cass are being stubborn and won't tell me. Finally, I've had my eye on "Under the Pendulum Sun" for some time and was thrilled to get a copy.
Finally, here's what I grabbed from First to Read the past few weeks. I loved the first Lady Sherlock book so I am thrilled to have "A Conspiracy in Belgravia" to read. I couldn't resist the cover and synopsis for "Beasts Made of Night." And finally, I have no excuse/reason for grabbing "Whispers of Warning" other than I just plain wanted to!
So what lovely things did you add to your shelves this week???
I'm keeping the book grabbing under control at the moment which is good. If that continues and I read plenty I can make a dent in the tbr in the last five months of the year, which would set me up for great reading next year! Interesting mix of books! Have a great weekend and fab reading week!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. Pass some of that restraint this way please. Gotta get ready to watch GoT tonight - can't wait!
DeleteI look forward to hearing more about What's It's Like to Be a Dog if you decide to review it. The "and other adventures in animal neuroscience" is what's actually making me the most curious.
ReplyDeleteIt should be an interesting read and the cover is adorable.
DeleteI've always loved the cover for Beasts Made of Night, and speaking of covers, I also have Under the Pendulum Sun. I just had to get it, the cover is amazing! I've noticed most of my NetGalley requesting takes place when I'm bored at work (don't tell my boss!) And it's been so slow lately. Here's hoping it gets busy quick so I stay away!
ReplyDeleteIt was part impulse grab and part I've seen it on your blog - haha. I do the same thing with Netgalley so your secret is safe with me.
DeleteYou got some great books! I was declined for the Belgravia one. :( Oh well, it's still pending on Netgalley so maybe I will get it there, a lot of times that is how I get my First to Reads when I don't get them on that site. :) If not that is probably okay as I don't need more anyway...lol.
ReplyDeleteI used some of my points so I could make sure I would get it. I loved the first one so much. Just hope I don't burn out on the genre because it seems I have quite a few to read.
DeleteI got Under the Pendulum Sun too, though I hadn't heard about it before -- I just grabbed it as soon as I saw it, it looks intriguing. Here's hoping we both enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. The cover sure is interesting.
DeleteInteresting haul, Barb! Of course, I am not interested in the frightening ones....lol.
ReplyDeleteGuess what happened? I was checking out these books on Amazon, going from one to the other. The ones that immediately caught my attention were "Under The Pendulum Sun", which I added to my Fantasy Wish List, and "Conspiracy In Belgravia". Somehow, I accidentally tapped on "Pre-Order with 1-Click" when I was looking at the Belgravia book. Well, I didn't REALLY tap on it. I guess my finger lingered there a bit TOO long, and the book got ordered! Lol. But I'm not canceling the order! Nope! You see, I'm a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan, so this book DEFINITELY intrigued me!
I saved "Whispers of Warning" in my New Wish List (being VERY careful with my pinkie this time), because I don't have a list for that category. I will be creating one, though.
As for "Beasts Made of Night", the cover is brilliant, but it makes me shudder....
Thanks for sharing!! ENJOY all your reads!! HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :)
Have you read A Study in Scarlet Women? If not, you better grab that one too so you're ready when Belgravia arrives! The boys say thanks for the hugs.
DeleteWhat It's Like To Be A Dog lol. Yes if the dogs won't tell us they force us to take matters into our own hands, right? A Conspiracy in Belgravia looks fun too.
ReplyDeleteThe first one was awesome.
DeleteEnjoy all those books! I am curious about Loose Ends.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
It was free so I figured no harm, no foul.
DeleteFirst to Read finally got me to part with my points on Beasts Made of Night as well, and in that same week I snagged Nyxia. The YA books on FtR are my weakness :)
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I saw Nyxia but I've got several to read from there still so I showed some restraint.
DeleteYou grabbed some great reads this week! I was able to resist the draw of First to Read for the last round which is amazing for my no willpower self. I hope you love all of your new reads!
ReplyDeleteGood job with the willpower. Apparently I have none.
DeleteUnder the Pendulum Sun and Whispers of Warning sound incredible! You have a great selection this week, hope you love all your new reads.
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS!
They do look awesome don't they?
DeleteI hope you enjoy all these new books. Yay, I'm curious about "What It's Like To Be A Dog"!! I need to read it. Happy reading Andre have a wonderful week. :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend too.
DeleteI requested Beast Made of Night on NetGalley because of the cover and synopsis too! but I was never approved [or rejected] I'm curious what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love it when they leave you hanging?
DeleteOh my gosh, I'm a total sucker for the Kindle freebies! If you're looking for more ebook email lists, feel free to check out my post, "5 Awesome eBook Deal Newsletters You Need To Subscribe To."
ReplyDeleteCool I'll have to check it out.
DeleteLooks like you got quite a few goodies this week! Whisper's of Warning's cover is lovely, I think I have to go check that one out. Enjoy your reads :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a historical paranormal about a medium...that's all I needed to know.
DeleteThe covers of the last three books are beautiful, I do enjoy historical and add in paranormal, it has to be good ;) Enjoy all your new reads and have a wonderful day :)
ReplyDeleteUp until last year or so I never read much historical but I've really started loving the mystery ones, especially if they have supernatural elements.
DeleteWow! You sure got a lot of great books this week! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post !

Thanks. Hope you enjoy your week as well.
DeleteDigital hauls are great for storage! I've been pretty good about getting more eARCs and ebooks than physical ARCs and books, but sometimes you just need a book in your hands and pages to turn. :D I also have A Conspiracy in Belgravia and I am so excited to read it. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Barb. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Yea and I can always use more storage room for books! #bookwormproblems

ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm sure there are some good ones in the batch.
DeleteYay! I enjoyed the first Lady Sherlock one as well! And woo!The cover for The Ghosts of Larkwood Asylum is fantastic! I don't blame you at all!
ReplyDeleteGreat haul. It seems to me we have very similar taste in books because I snagged two of your three books from First to Read too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all your books. - Katie
