Weekly Reads (11/03/17)

I can't believe Halloween and October are over.  I guess we are forced to move on to Thanksgiving.  And I don't know about you, but it seems pretty early since it's technically just three weeks away.  We had a nice Halloween at our home and handed out candy and then watched a movie.  The boys got lots of kid attention which they loved and a treat or two for themselves.

Thanks to everyone who expressed concern over the fire last week.  You'll be glad to know it was finally extinguished last Saturday after burning 8 days.  Now the clean up begins and I really hope the owner has to answer for what he has done.

Speaking of movies, we watched "The Dark Tower" and overall, I guess I didn't really like it.  Matthew McConaughey was seriously channeling Christopher Watkins in my opinion  so I couldn't even enjoy watching him.  Idris Elba did a good job though. I haven't read the books yet but Stormi and I are slated to read the first one in December as a buddy read so I'm excited to see what I think.  I've heard the book and the movie are completely different.  We also watched Season 2 of "Stranger Things" and I love it so much.  I can see myself totally rewatching the entire series again this winter.  Dustin is my favorite and although I thought it started out slow, it really picked up steam after the third episode.

I've had a hard time picking up a book the last few days.  I can't seem to figure out what I want to read.  However, the HoHoHo readathon starts November 8th so the books I picked for that are on tap too.  Here's what MIGHT get picked up this week.

So I hope you all have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by The Farm.

  1. Sorry about the fire, I'm glad you're OK! And yes, Dark Tower was a no for me too, but the book is better, as usual. I'm joining the HoHoHoRAT, too. I have a few short books and a children's book, since it's only a short time. I'm not a fast reader at all, I wish I was though, I could get through my TBR list quicker! Happy reading and have a great weekend!

    1. I can be a rather quick reader but I find that on certain evenings, I have more time to read than others. So it all depends on how things fall and how hectic work is - cause then I'm exhausted when I get home.

  2. I'm relieved that I've been able to read this week but ironically, it was a genre I don't read much in that appealed to me! I'm finding it hard to decide what I feel like reading most of the time, which is a bit disturbing for planning ahead!

I also didn't like "The Dark Tower" very much BUT I did followed your advice and watched Annabel and MOG I hadn't been that scared by a movie in years!

    1. Glad you liked Annabelle. I really did enjoy it. Dark Tower, I could have skipped that one altogether.

  4. Glad they finally put the fire out and I hope it doesn't damage your local wildlife :( I've always had trouble reading those Dark Tower books. I tried and tried and tried again but they never clicked with me. I hope you have better luck.

    1. I hope so too. I hope the owner answers for this catastrophe. Poor animals and people. At least we lived across town and not right beside it like some.

  5. What a relief about the fire.
You sound like you had a good Halloween - even if the Dark Tower didn't work out. Not sure if I want to watch it or not. I suppose I will do eventually.
My reading has also been slow this week. A bit like you - I feel restless.

    1. I knew we'd watch it eventually but kind of wish we hadn't. I grabbed The Rules of Magic Friday evening and devoured it. Seems it was just what I needed.

  6. Wow! 8 days to get the fire out. Unreal. Yep, October is over and I am in panic mode, because I have not even thought about Christmas shopping. The panic starts now. The HoHoHo Read-a-thon sounds fun. I have seen some posts about it, but I feel like I have read all my Christmas books already, and would have nothing to read for it. I hope you have fun doing it though.

    1. I am usually much father along than I am now and it's worrying me as well.

  7. It seems most retailers around here have skipped right on by Thanksgiving and moved to Christmas already, lol. The day after Halloween, I went to do some shopping and I think I saw more Santa Clauses than turkeys. And I've been really looking forward to Stranger Things season 2, still trying to find some time to start it!

  8. I've only watched the first episode of Stranger Things but I can tell it's going to be a great season. I'm cooking TG this year and I can't believe it's sneaking up so quickly!

  10. I am glad that they got the fire put out. I can't believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Time really flies. I have watched a couple of episodes of Stranger Things and liked it but I never seem to finish anything I start on Netflix. Have a great week!
