TTT - I Can't Believe I Read That!

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but starting this week, they are handing over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

Today we are sharing books we can't believe we read.  Now I put a lot of time and effort into finding new books and researching what is coming out - to me, it's half the fun of reading.  So I'm only going to try to come up with 5.  Also, please don't let any of my choices offend anyone.  We all like to read different things and all books hold a value to someone.

So I read these rather late.  I mean, they were all out and had been talked to death before I picked one up.  I admit, I was curious, but it was clear to me that this book was Twilight fan-fiction and Anastasia drove me nuts - just like Bella.  Speaking of Bella...

Enough said.

I like weird but I honestly think I should have never picked this up considering I had never listened to the podcast.

Who knew this book would still be making lists on 2018.  And I thought it was gone for good.  Oh why didn't I DNF this somewhere along the way?

Oh I can believe I picked this up - everyone was reading it.  I just can't believe I finished it.

So I can see this list sort of morphed into books I should have DNF'ed.  Oh well, that works for me so I hope it works for you.

  1. My list started morphing into books I should have DNF'd, too! I haven't read 50 Shades yet, but it definitely goes in the 'books I can't believe I own' pile - I found the trilogy really cheaply in a charity shop and planned on getting to them eventually to see what the fuss was all about, but that was years ago (and I don't even know which shelf they're on anymore!).

    1. At least someone gave them to me. I have the trilogy too but when I find them, I'm passing them on to my mother.

  2. I couldn't think how to use this topic so I did something different, looking at books that inspired me to read genres or themes. I never thought of the DNF angle for some reason as there were lots I could've used there! Darn...

    1. I loved the twist you used. It's always fun to take these and make them our own.

  3. I agree with you on The 50 Shades of Grey series. I secretly read it and it was like a train wreck lol. I couldn't look away. I enjoyed Gone Girl but not Gillian Flynn's other books.

    1. I don't have any desire to pick up any of her other books but I did watch the Dark Places movie - it wasn't horrible but I still had problems with it.

  4. I actually loved Gone Girl! And I started reading 50 Shades (before it became a best seller) but didn't get very far. And if nothing else, reading Little Heaven has provided lots of opportunities for top ten lists!

    1. Yep, someday I need to go back and figure out how many times I mentioned that book on lists. They say there's no such thing as bad publicity huh?

  5. If I had done a list this week, Fifty Shades of Grey would have been at the top of my life. It's definitely not a genre I normally read, but there was so much hype!

  6. I'm actually having the most interesting discussion about adults reading YA books with my Beat the blacklist challenge team right now and of course Twilight came up. I liked the Fantasy aspects of it but found the controlling and depending relationship very problematic especially for YA readers

    1. I know. I used to go round and round with my old boss because she thought Edward was so ideal yet she was a feminist who was active against DV and such. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it.

  7. Ugh, I have managed to stay away from those Fifty Shades books but I did read the Twilight series and you've seen my TTT list today so I am not one to judge ;)

    1. I know plenty of people loved these books and that's cool - they just weren't for me.

  8. I read Fifty Shades to see what the fuss was about. And I actually enjoyed the Twilight books to an extent. For me, at least, these were pretty forgettable books except they are talked about so much they will likely forever be in my head. I'm not sure that's a good thing. Haha

  9. I managed to resist 50SoG. I was curious but had enough friends that read it and texted me thr whole time that I felt like I read it lol

I don't read a lot of best sellers. I did read Twilight but before it became a hit series.

    1. I think I had read most of the series before the movie came out. I didn't care for Kristen Stewart as Bella, but it may have been because I didn't care for Bella.

  10. Fifty Shades and Twilight have been very common choices this week!

  11. I've seen Fifty Shades on several lists this week. I bought it, never read it, and ended up selling it at a yard sale, lol.

  12. I picked up Fifty Shades and got maybe to 20%. I set it aside and my MOM heard about it, so I figured I'd send it her way. She loved it. So much so that I bought the entire trilogy for her. Each to their own I guess!

Speaking of, I actually enjoyed Twilight. I know, I know. But, really there was something to reading the fluffiness of it. I also LOVE vampire books. It's no Interview with the Vampire, but I still enjoyed it. One of the few...

Great list! So many that I wanted to read on here too. Guess I'll just walk slowly away from them!

    1. Twilight did get me back into reading. I got away from it for a few years and then all the gals where I worked at the time started reading them and passing them around. So they did rekindle my love of reading so I will always remember them somewhat fondly.

  13. I never read Twilight even when it was at its peak popularity. I did watch the first movie and thought it was terrible. Glad I stayed away from the books.

    1. The movies were even worse than the books in my opinion.

  14. I've only read Twilight and 50 Shades from your list. I can't deny I enjoyed Twilight at the time but 50 Shades. No. Not for me.

    1. Yea, me either and it wasn't really the subject matter, it was that it was Twilight fan fiction so I think I was doomed from the start.

  15. Gone Girl was an odd book for me to pick up, because it's dark and the characters are unlikable. Yet, I liked it. The plot was so strong and twisted, it just immediately hooked me and kept me on the line until the very end.

    1. I'm glad it worked for you. The only character I ended up liking was the guy's sister. I needed more of her.

  16. You will love this...I read the first 2 books in that 50 Shades of Stupid series. I didn't like the first one but thought I had to be missing something since everyone was telling me how good it was. The second one is probably worse.

  17. I managed to avoid most of these. I must say, I enjoyed the Twilight series. Guess I'm one of the few. LOL It introduced me to YA and I've now found some great books and authors.

    1. Lots of people enjoy Twilight and I must have found something in them because I did read them all.

  18. I can't believe I did read Twilight either... And I thought Gone Girl was mostly overhyped. I've (thankfully) managed to avoid Fifty Shades, and I don't think I'll ever touch that book haha.

  19. I should have DNF’d Little Heaven as well. I’m still upset about how disappointed I was with that one lol.

  20. I didn't have quite enough books to do this week's TTT, but if I had done a list Fifty Shades would be on it as well. I was just too curious!

  21. I regret not DNF'ing 50 Shades as well! Can't believe I read those either.

  22. Oh my gosh, great picks! I have a whole list of books on Goodreads of books I wish I had DNFed...

  23. Bwhahah right there with on Fifty Shades! I was so sick of everyone who said "you can't talk bad about them if you haven't read them!" so... I did. And oh my goodness. I lost actual brain cells I think. And now I am super curious about Little Heaven, off to google why that one has taunted you for years :D Love the way you did this topic!

  24. I never read the Twilight books nor do I see myself ever reading them. They're just not really "me books." Plus (with the RARE exception), I'm not a vampire or zombie kinda' reader. :D

Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.

  25. Bwahaha 50Shades. I didn't make it through. I suffered until 200 pages and there was a LOT of FB blog ranting while it happened.
