TTT - Celebrate Your Differences

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but starting this week, they are handing over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

This week's topic is Books I Disliked But Am Glad I Read.  Well, I tend to not pick up a lot of books that I don't think I'll like so I don't think I could go very far on that one.  However, I have read some REALLY hyped books that people love that just didn't work for me.  Therefore, I am celebrating differences!  Because really, aren't there enough book out there that we all don't have to think the same about them!

Come on, you knew it would be here.  Lots of my favorite bloggers really liked this book.  It even has a 3.73 average rating on Goodreads.  Only 11% of people gave it a 2-star rating or lower.  YES!  I sure fall into the minority with this one.

I affectionately call The Hunger my Little Heaven of 2018.  It has a 3.67 average rating and again some of my favorite bloggers really loved it.  It also has only 11% of readers giving it a 2-star rating or lower. MAN!  It really IS my new Little Heaven!

Well well, what do we have here.  Another book a lot of people love.  However I do know a few fellow bloggers who didn't care for this one either so I don't feel quite so alone.  Final Girls has an average Goodreads rating of 3.79.  With only 8% of people giving it 2-stars or lower, I really don't have many people who agree with me on this one!

Now here's one I actually gave 3/5 but in retrospect, I don't know why.  I really kind of hated it.  (So lots of people are throwing things at me now...except for Stormi and Laurie, I know they didn't like it much either).  It has an average rating of 3.78 and at least 26% of others gave it 3/5, with only 7% giving it a lower rating.  I should have re-read IT.

I think this book may have actually started the Curse of the Thrillers.  Yes, I gave it 3/5.  Yes, I was way too generous and should have given it 2/5 or even less.  There were stupid people everywhere.  It has an average rating of 3.75 of Goodreads and only 9% gave it 2 or lower.  Wonder if that percentage will go up when I change my rating?

So I thought that was it but no, I just realized one book that HAS to make the list.....
Are you ready.....
Are you sitting down....

Some love it, some hate it and me, I hope I never see it again!

I really disliked this book.  So what did I do, after I read it, I watched the movie which I disliked just as much if not more.  This has a 4.04 rating on Goodreads so CLEARLY I'm going against the grain.  It even won the 2012 Goodreads Choice Award.  Only 6% gave it 2 stars or lower.

Oh how I love being different!

  1. Gone Girl (and Final Girls too really) is one I've kinda wanted to read to see what all the hubbub is about? But I never seem to. Isn't it funny when that happens, a book that everyone seems to lov doesn't work for you? I've had that happen!

The hunger was another one I was thinking of getting, but I just don't know... I've seen some mixed reviews.

    1. I've just learned to accept it - there's enough books out there that we all don't have to love the same ones.

  2. More often than not I seem to fall into the minority view on book opinions! Former blog friends used to tell me that they would lie and say they loved a book they hated, just to stay with the popular view and that really annoyed me. I'll never lie about my opinion because it is my opinion so good for you for being a rebel!

    1. I can't see lying about liking a book. If people don't like me because I don't like a book, then I don't need them. Some of my favorite bloggers are the ones I know are being honest, despite what is popular.

  3. Nice take on the topic! I tend to be the person who doesn't like hyped books as much as everyone else!

    1. There's a few I've put off until the hype dies down even now.

  4. Great list. I always second guess myself when I don't like a book that it seems everyone else does.

    1. I know right? Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with me...but only for a few seconds but then I don't care.

  5. I've learned by now that it's ok to disagree😁 Some books just work for me and some don't. I do love that you have a couple of books that keep popping up on these lists!

  6. Good twist of the topic. I've had a few overly-hyped books that I was just left wondering "did we read the same book?" lol

  7. The Hunger has such an intriguing cover! Too bad you didn't enjoy it! I felt the same way about The Couple Next Door and Gone Girl though. I really disliked them both!

  9. Well, Barb, you know me! NONE of these books would appeal to me, lol!!

"Gone Girl" was REALLY hyped up! But the whole idea of Nick possibly being a killer is an IMMEDIATE turnoff for me..... :)

One book I read, back in high school, that I absolutely HATED, was "The Catcher in the Rye". I don't know WHY this book continues to be lauded as great fiction. I think it SUCKED.

Another book I LOVE to HATE is "Wuthering Heights". Heathcliff is a REAL monster!!

Well, thanks for sharing!! Hope you and the boys are having an AWESOME day!!! HUGS TO YOU ALL, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

  10. Gone Girl has been on my TBR for ages...maybe I should feel glad I haven't found the time to read it yet. :)

Have a wonderful week. - Katie

  11. Ah hype. It kicks me in the teeth all the time. I didn't mind Gone Girl but The Chalk Man & Final Girls didn't live up to the awesomeness promised me.

  13. A hyped book makes me leery now. I too have not enjoyed some books that everyone else seemed to love. Different strokes for different folks, right:)

  14. Yeah, there have been books I really disliked, but I'm still glad I read even if it's just because I was able to experience a particular author's work for the first time!

  16. I liked Gone Girl, but I didn't love it. I gave it three stars and really, it probably should have made my list this week. It was okay, I think I might have enjoyed it more if I liked the genre more.
