Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: Everyone Emily has ever loved has been brutally murdered. The killer has never been caught, but Emily knows who's responsible.
She is.
It's the only possible explanation. Emily is the one thing all the victims have in common, which can only mean that someone--or something--is killing them to make her suffer.
Determined never to subject another person to the same horrible fate as her parents, friends, and pets, Emily sequesters herself at a private boarding school, keeping her classmates at a distance with well-timed insults and an unapproachable air. Day after day, she loses herself in the writing of Emily Dickinson--the poet makes a perfect friend, since she's already dead.
Emily's life is lonely, but it's finally peaceful. That is, until two things happen. A corpse appears on the steps of the school. And a new girl insists on getting close to Emily--unknowingly setting herself up to become the killer's next victim.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I will admit I'm a little nervous about the mention of pets in this one but other than that, it sounds like a pretty thrilling read. Maybe I can skip that part or gloss over it. I'm such a wimp when it comes to animals getting hurt so we'll see.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
I'd be worried about the pet mention too!
ReplyDeleteI know. But at least they mentioned it. Sometimes it's better to have a head's up.
DeleteOkay, why why why did they have to include pets in that list *facepalm* The rest of it sounds good and creepy, but I'll spend the whole thing waiting for whatever to happen to the pets to happen...
ReplyDeleteI know. Maybe I'll give it a chance and I can warn you.
DeleteOooh!! This sounds awesome!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it!
DeleteI was commenting on a blog a couple of weeks ago that I can read just about anything happening to adult humans, but children and animals being mistreated really bothers me, so I understand your nervousness about the pet element. 🐾
ReplyDeleteI know. I even have a tote bag saying "I don't care who dies in the movie as long as the dog lives." The same goes for books.
DeleteYeah, not the pets please! But otherwise this sounds like a fun mystery. And the cover is pretty creepy😁
ReplyDeleteI know. I hope it's just something minor. But if not, I'll skip that part :)
DeleteI don't like bad things happening to animals or children so I don't know about this book. I hope it's good and not too graphic.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping it's non-graphic too.
DeleteI like scary read, not so much with the animals being harmed. Nice pick.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a popular opinion :)
DeleteThis one sounds like it could be a nailbiter, Barb. Hope the animal scenes aren't too harrowing...
ReplyDeleteThanks SJ!
DeleteSounds like your worry is warranted. :-)

I know :(
DeleteI'm super intrigued by this one, though a little worried about the mention of pets.
ReplyDeleteIf the author could see all of these comments - they might have wished they'd left the pet out.
DeleteOooh! This sounds interesting! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

I'd be worried about the mention of pets too. Other than that, it sounds like it could be really good.
ReplyDeleteI know. Everything else has me really wanting to read it.
DeleteIsolating yourself, because you think you've killed everyone close to you. That sounds crazy and absolutely fascinating. I would be nervous about a pet too. If they talk about the pet too much in the book, that means they won't make it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right.
DeleteOoh this sounds good and hopefully no animals are harmed! I love the idea of her going to a boarding school to hide, and then a body shows up! Sounds tense!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she just assumes the crazy person would off a pet if she gets close to one - at least I can hope.
Deletehiiii partner!! sorry for falling off the face of the earth! i'm back now though!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this book and it sounds really creepy but I'm sure it's no coincidence that everybody Emily knows gets murdered. The pets part kinda freaked me out too.. who wants to read about pets being murdered?! Also, I read too much paranormal fantasy so my first thought was maybe Emily doesn't know she's a werewolf or something and keeps munching all her peeps and pets at the full moon hahaha
Haha! That sounds soooo like something I'd think too.
DeleteI am a wimp to when it comes to animals and kids getting hurt. Ughh I cry or get distraught. I don't know what is worse. I hope you do get a chance to read this!
ReplyDeleteMary
Thanks Mary!
DeleteWow. This sounds thrilling, Barb. And i do so love that cover.
ReplyDeleteYea, the cover was what initially caught my attention.
DeleteThis sounds so dark and morbid, even for me! I will probably need to be in a certain mood to read this :P

If it weren't for the pet thing, I'd be drooling for a copy. At least the wait isn't too long.
DeleteYeah, I can't handle pets getting hurt. I'd probably skip this one for me. Otherwise the book sounds really good. Hope the animal stuff is minimal for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura.
DeleteI can't bear to see animals get hurt. Even if someone so much as look meanly at a puppy, I will instantly get so emotional, it's not even funny. But I do agree that this one sounds promising. Nice pick! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you. Leave the animals alone!
DeleteYeah the mention of murdered pets has me worried too...I can forgive a lot of things in books/movies/shows but you hurt a pet....yeah its over.
ReplyDeleteTotally over!
DeleteOoh, this one sounds very intriguing. Will keep a lookout for this one and your thoughts on it.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Hope I can bring myself to give it a chance!
DeleteGreetings from Chicken Little! Lol.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that I really hope you enjoy this one, Barb!
Thanks for commenting on my CWW post!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE PUPS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
Thanks Maria.
DeleteI'm not a big fan of violence against animals in stories for the primary reason that it always feels gratuitous and unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree!
DeleteThis does sound good! I cannot stomach violence to animals either, so I know what you mean. I hope you enjoy this one!
