This week's topic is "Books That Lived Up to the Hype." Well, you know me, and I thought it would be fun to look at both sides. Also, it's no real secret that hyped books are NOT my best friends. So I'm sharing 5 that did, and 5 that didn't - just to make it more fun (and probably easier).
BOOKS THAT LIVED UP TO THE HYPE
BOOKS THAT DID NOT LIVE UP THE HYPE
(brace yourself - you know it's coming)
So there are some really popular books on my "did not live up to hype list." I'm sure several surprised absolutely no one. Just remember, it's only my opinion!
What books made your list this week???
Undead Girl Gang is on my very long list of books I want to try, as is The Chalk Man. I wasn't surprised by the second half of your list!
ReplyDeleteYep, at this point, I surprise no one with some of these books!
DeleteOh, I agree about The Chalk Man -- I have a review sitting somewhere, I never bothered to post.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to like it so much more than I did - I should have just read "It."
DeleteAnd yet another post where you get to highlight The Hunger and Little Heaven! Ha ha. Oh my gosh, I have got to read Dread Nation!!
ReplyDeleteI know. I can always count on those books and hey, they say there is no such thing as bad publicity huh?
DeleteI have been meaning to read Dear Martin. I am glad it is good. Let me Lie was good too.
ReplyDeleteI read most of it in one day. It was a Christmas gift and I picked it up almost immediately.
DeleteMore books for my reading list. :-)
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Glad to help!
DeleteI tend to avoid hype, or at least wait until the hype has toned down before I read a book or series. I haven't read any of these, but I'm curious about To Kill A Kingdom. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it. Lots of people have, I just wasn't one of them.
DeleteI was just trying to pick my next audiobook and I was thinking of picking up To Kill a Kingdom. Glad to know you liked it so much!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it!
DeleteHaha - you really didn't like The Hunger - it was on my list for the opposite readon. LOL.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Nope, not at all but I haven't given up on the author.
DeleteI'm with Chuckles. The second half of your list didn't surprise me. Though, I still want to read a couple of them.
ReplyDeleteNo, someday I'm going to count how many times some of them appear on my lists.
DeleteDread Nation and Undead Girl Gang are both among favorite books I've picked up this year. I'm so glad to find them on your list. And Dear Martin! I don't think that one gets enough attention.
ReplyDeleteIt should definitely get more but I think because it was released close to The Hate You Give, that it was kind of overshadowed.
DeleteDread Nation definitely lived up to the hype!

Can't wait for the next one!
DeleteI was really surprised by how much I enjoyed The Marsh King's Daughter but I also liked The Chalk Man. You have a few more books listed that you liked that I do need to get around to reading.
ReplyDeleteMarsh King's Daughter was a pleasant surprise. The Chalk Man got 3/5 from me so I think I found it to be "meh."
DeleteSome of the books from both of your lists are on my TBR list. So . . . I don’t know what to think about that. Now I’m nervous!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Maybe you'll love them!
DeleteDear Martin was absolutely outstanding.

DeleteI'm definitely a hype avoider. Got burned a couple too many times. Whew.
