This week is a freebie topic and the ones that immediately came to mind are actually being featured soon so I am sharing some of my worst reads of 2018.
Let me add that this is just my opinion. I know lots of people who have loved these books so you know, different strokes for different folks. I do not mean to offend. And because I'm pretty selective with what I even add to the TBR, I'm only featuring 5.
Okay, this one has to be a surprise to NO ONE!
I still love the cover but this one didn't work for me at all.
While not a favorite, it definitely is one of the weirdest books I've read.
I know I'm in the minority with this choice.
I KNOW to stay away from hyped books!
So there you have it, 5 books that just didn't work for me. So I know plenty of people will disagree with me here, but who feels the same???
I read the Chalk Man, and didn't post a review yet bc as I recall it kind of annoyed me lol So count me in as not the biggest fan of that one. Some parts of it just made me scratch my head and go: why?
ReplyDeleteYay, another Chalk Man non-fan. We are few and far between so it's nice to have great company!
DeleteThe Chalk Man and Cabin at the end of the world are two books that I have and meant to get to this year but I never managed! I've seen the mixed reviews of both so I might make them a priority for next year to get them done one way or the other!
ReplyDeleteI'm anxious to hear what you think about both. I think you'll want to kill people, but I could be wrong.
DeleteWow. All of these are on my to read list. Now I'm even more curious to see what I think of them:)
ReplyDeleteMe too. One of the best things about reading and our community is all the various opinions.
DeleteThe only one on your list I read was The Chalk Man. I didn't mind it but not one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteLots of people liked it so I was definitely the minority. I did end up liking it better than Final Girls though but come to think of it, they both run together in my head.
DeleteWhat? You didn't like The Hunger?? I'm shocked;-)
ReplyDeleteI know right?
DeleteBummer about To Kill A Kingdom! It's one I've been really looking forward to reading. What was it that you didn't like? I'm curious!
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
I didn't like the characters much and I felt it kind of dragged.
DeleteI have Chalk Man on my reading wishlist... What did you not like about it?
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to my Top Ten Tuesday post for this week: https://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2018/12/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-free-little.html
Seemed kind of like an IT rip-off to me. Plus there was a twist at the end I didn't care for.
DeleteI agree with The Chalk Man and The Hunger! I was hoping To Kill a Kingdom would be good so that is a bummer and it has slipped down farther on my want to read as has The Cabin at the End of the World.
ReplyDeleteYes I would advise that you skip Cabin.
DeleteI wanted to read To Kill a Kingdom but the reviews were all over the place.
ReplyDeleteIv'e read a few books by Katsu but they aren't really my thing.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
I'm curious about Katsu and would like to read another but that being said, I'm in no hurry.
DeleteI am not sure that I want to revisit those books that I didn't like! I haven't tried To Kill a Kingdom yet, so I think that I will push it back on my TBR.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind revisiting them but I don't want to reread them :)
DeleteThe simple covers for the Hunger and the Chalk Man make me want them on my bookshelf. Even the titles are short and ominous. lol
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Chances are you would like them. I'm definitely in the minority.
DeleteI thing The Chalk Man sounds really interesting, but seeing it on your list makes me hesitate.
ReplyDeleteI hate telling anyone not to read it. Maybe check out my review and see if what didn't work for me would bother you at all.
DeleteI still have Chalk Man on my TBR but had seen a few mixed reviews for it. Seeing it on your list has me considering just ditching it altogether.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Well, I'm sure you have plenty of other books to chose from right?
DeleteI didn't hate The Cabin at the End of the World, but I wish it had more resolution.
ReplyDeleteYes that ending!
DeleteAww, The Hunger is on my TBR list. It sounds so promising! I disliked a Paul Tremblay book this year, too. I don’t think I’ll try another one.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't know that I'll read anything else by him soon. I think I have Devil's Rock on my Kindle. That's the one you read right?
DeleteYeah a couple of these I really liked, but I have to say you're spot on with Cabin in the Woods - so disappointing!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yay, another Cabin non-fan.
DeleteI was not thrilled with The Chalk Man either.
ReplyDeleteI remember that.
DeleteI still have The Chalk Man sitting on my shelf, but I'm super hesitant on it because I feel like I've seen quite a few people whose taste I trust that haven't liked it, so... we'll see, haha. The Wild Inside certainly has a beautiful cover, though!
ReplyDeleteThe Wild Side is WEIRD. And I usually like weird so go figure.
DeleteI'd eventually like to read To Kill a Kingdom, but the others aren't even really on my radar.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people loved it so you probably will too.
DeleteI am one that loved The Chalk Man but I moved The Hunger way down my tbr list after you had so much trouble with it.
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't ruin what might be a good read for you!
DeleteSO sad about The Hunger! I wanted to love that one SO desperately, but you aren't the only person who didn't, ugh. I did enjoy To Kill a Kingdom, sorry that you didn't! I definitely need to do my "worst-of" list ASAP!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your list!
DeleteI am not familiar with any of these books. Sad that you didn't enjoy them though. Have a great weekend. - Katie
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie!
DeleteThis list sounds right to me. I was warned away from reading Cabin because of the content.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I read it because I would have remained curious, but I really wanted it to be so much more.
DeleteI have seen To Kill a Kingdom mentioned as a meh read on a lot of blogs. 😛
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one then.
