So I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. This might be a long one so make sure you have a favorite beverage of choice. Things here at The Farm have been good. Last Sunday I got all the Christmas decorations up except our tree which won't go up until the 16th. The house is looking pretty festive. I also got my truck back so things seem more normal.
So Mr. Barb's birthday is Sunday so I'm planning to make Boozy cupcakes. I also make him cupcakes and when I asked what kind he wanted, he joked and said "bourbon ones." Well, I actually found a recipe so he's getting Chocolate Bourbon Cupcakes with Vanilla Vodka icing. Wish me luck because it might be scary.
So the kitchen remodel is basically done. Before I show you the pics, let me just explain that we live in kind of a low-end historical district. If we both had 6-figure salaries, then it would look awesome. As it is, we don't so I've worked hard to make our 118 year old house look cozy - not extremely elegant. Mr. and the neighbor basically did the flooring and a new ceiling for an anniversary gift (and jacked the floor up) because people, it's 118 years old :) I really love it. I did all the painting, including the cabinets and let's just say, there's A LOT to paint in a kitchen. Remind me some day to tell you about our haunting and the bones in the wall!
I've accented the kitchen with llamas. Don't ask why because they basically just popped in my head. Thank heavens for Etsy. I still have one more print to frame and one more I'm thinking of ordering.
So on to the reading. I'm hoping to finish "Fatal Festival Days" tonight and start something new tomorrow. Look one post back if you want to see my December TBR and what I'm basically choosing from this month.
Also, I've been listening to one of favorite Christmas albums of all week - A Barenaked Holiday by Barenaked Ladies. Seriously guys, check it out. The best song is "Elf's Lament."
So hope you all have a great one and what new books are you reading?
ohhh I LOOOVE the colors you guys picked! And llamas! who doesn't love them???
ReplyDeleteThanks. I meant for the walls to be a tad lighter but I actually liked how the color turned out.
DeleteI love those llama pics you put up in your kitchen. Very fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really know what I gravitated toward llamas but I'm glad I did.
DeleteWow your kitchen looks fantastic! You guys did a great job. I like the color scheme- and the flooring as well.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the cupcakes haha! Those sound pretty good. :)
Thanks Greg. The cupcakes were actually a success.
DeleteI love llamas! I'm also slightly addicted to etsy and everything on there! You can find so many amazing things in one place. Also, the floor is amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?
Etsy is super dangerous on the wallet right?
DeleteThe kitchen looks great! And those cupcakes sound delicious!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela.
DeleteI think the remodel looks fantastic! I have a preference for earthy browns too, so I love it!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yes, I am more drawn to earthy colors. I did have a bright peachy color in our dining room for years but I axed it last year for yep, you guessed it, tan :)
DeleteIt looks fabulous! Yay for a re-do :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Deletellama Drive! That is the cutest -- Barb, you guys should be so proud of that kitchen -- it looks gorgeous, warm and cozy (which tbh is miles better than anything 'elegant')Also, there's going to be an update (and pics) on the cupcakes right? Right?!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think cozy is better too!
DeleteThe kitchen floor looks great! I'd love that kind of look in our kitchen. You know how people have 'shabby chic?' Well we just have shabby! The ripped lino really adds to the look! That was done when they delivered the cooker and dragged it across, leaving a big tear! I think your kitchen looks cozy, comfy and elegant!
ReplyDeleteThe guys that did ours did leave a parting gift of a scratch on our 1 year old fridge - I was ticked!
DeleteFinally, kitchen pictures! It looks beautiful, Barb. I love the tileπ Ooh bourbon cupcakes? I didn't even know there was such a thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks and yep, the cupcakes were better than I thought.
DeleteYour kitchen looks really good, want to come and fix mine. ;)
ReplyDeleteSure but I don't know how much we'd get done!
DeleteThat looks gorgeous!! I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen.
DeleteThe kitchen looks fabulous. You guys did great. And the llamas...if you want to read a novel that includes special needs llama, try Vlad by Kristine Mason.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I'll have to check that one out!
DeleteI think the kitchen looks brilliant, and you are the only person I know who has said they have a llama themed kitchen! π✨
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to hear all about the haunting and the bones!π±π»π
I love old houses.π✨
Thanks so much for the compliments. Like I said I have no idea about why llama stuck in my head but I'm kind of glad they did. I will make sure to add the ghost stories to this Friday's Weekly Reads post.
