Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: One morning, Jessa-Lynn Morton walks into the family taxidermy shop to find that her father has committed suicide, right there on one of the metal tables. Shocked and grieving, Jessa steps up to manage the failing business, while the rest of the Morton family crumbles. Her mother starts sneaking into the shop to make aggressively lewd art with the taxidermied animals. Her brother Milo withdraws, struggling to function. And Brynn, Milo’s wife—and the only person Jessa’s ever been in love with—walks out without a word. As Jessa seeks out less-than-legal ways of generating income, her mother’s art escalates—picture a figure of her dead husband and a stuffed buffalo in an uncomfortably sexual pose—and the Mortons reach a tipping point. For the first time, Jessa has no choice but to learn who these people truly are, and ultimately how she fits alongside them.
Kristen Arnett’s debut novel is a darkly funny, heart-wrenching, and eccentric look at loss and love.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: Every once in a while I'm drawn to a really weird and really unusual pick. And when I read about the taxidermied animals, I keep thinking of "Hope Floats." So I think I really need to check this one out.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
Weird and unusual is a pretty apt description of this book and plot, I think. I'll be watching for your review!
ReplyDeleteYep, the cover is pretty catchy though.
DeleteThis would be something totally weird! lol I hope you enjoy it when you get the chance to read it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle!
DeleteI thought of Hope Floats too! Maybe rated R. LOL This sounds like one I should try too.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I'm a tad worried but hopefully it is good.
DeleteThis sounds bizarre! Not sure I can deal with a story about taxidermy, but if you end up reading it, I'll be reading your review for sure😁
ReplyDeleteAs long as there are no taxidermied dogs or cats. For some reason, it doesn't freak me out that badly and as big of an animal lover as I am, it should.
DeleteTaxidermy creeps me out- but it sounds like a fun theme for a book!
ReplyDeleteI think because I grew up with deer heads on the wall (my dad and Gpa were hunters) I became desensitized.
DeleteI love the cover and it definitely sounds intriguingly weird! 😂
ReplyDeleteYes, I think Tammy summed it up well with bizarre!
DeleteThis sounds really intriguing! A little strange but really interesting and unusual. 😊
ReplyDeleteMy Can't Wait Wednesday this week.
That's me - always on the hunt for strange books.
DeleteLove the contrasting colors and font work of this cover; which also seems to be a great design for the plot. :) Hope you enjoy this anticipated read - and thanks so much for the visit to Finding Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteThe cover is what initially made me read the synopsis. Don't know how the flamingo fits in so I'm curious.
DeleteThis does sound quirky and I hope it turns out to be good! I smiled when I saw the title, that definitely got my interest!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a catchy title.
DeleteWow, these sound like interesting characters. Hope you enjoy this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alicia. I enjoy family dysfunction in books.
DeleteThis really is a very different story! I think it sounds like it could be quite fantastic. I hope that you love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYep, definitely sounds a little offbeat. I don't know if it's for me, but I hope you enjoy it!

The verdict is out on it being for me too but I'm hopeful.
DeleteSo how you are about dogs on covers. I feel that way about flamingos. I. Love. Them. lol
ReplyDeleteI never knew about you flamingo infatuation. That's cool!
DeleteMmm can't decide if this book is going to be funny or disturbing or both lol. Can't wait to hear what you think of this one.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of hoping for both!
Deletetaxidermied animals??? I'm surprised you picked this Barb!
ReplyDeletetaxidermied anything is a creepy thing for sure so I hope it's good!
Me too. As long as there are no stuffed dogs or cats. I grew up with hunters so I'm used to deer heads and stuff.
DeleteIt certainly does sound a bit weird!
ReplyDeleteYep, sure does.
DeleteThis sounds like it's going to be a wild ride. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne!
DeleteThis is definitely very unusual, probably not for me - although never say never.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Yea, given my recent circumstances, I think I'll be passing on this one for a while. I need less drama right now.
