So this week we are looking at all the things that make me pick up a book. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with this week!
They feature adorable dogs on the covers.
As you can see, they can be real dogs, cartoon dogs or even dog-implied.
A favorite blogger pal has raved about the book.
There are so many fellow bloggers whose opinions I value so when I see them raving about a book or even sometimes just hauling it, it makes me want that book too!
They are memoirs of my favorite singers/actors.
I love reading memoirs from some of my favorite actors and singers
It's on the "new releases" shelf at my local library.
I can't be the only one who has to grab a new release almost every time I run into the library.
It's a book about Prince.
You all are shocked right?
It seems a tad odd or strange.
It's no real secret that a book that sounds a little strange, odd or even "out there" will catch my attention every time!
It's by one of my favorite, must-read authors.
There are some authors where I don't even need to know what their book is about before I grab it.
There is a movie or TV adaptation about to be released.
I don't know why but even if I never thought I would be interested in a book, seeing it is about to be adapted is often prompts me to want to pick it up.
It has a gorgeous cover.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with this on my list today.
It's an indie horror title.
I love finding new authors and giving some of the lesser known ones a chance. I've found some real gems this way.
So there you have it, do you find yourself grabbing books for any of these same reasons?
I'm so glad it's not just me that gets caught by new releases in the library! I just feel this uncontrollable urge to try to read every single book as it comes out, which is ridiculous - there are far too many books released each week, let alone in a year.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same urge so it must be contagious!
DeleteGreat reasons!!!! I totally agree with the dog books of course!
ReplyDeleteI knew you would!
DeleteThese don't surprise me at all, Barb! I completely agree with you on "must read" authors, if I know an author is dependable and always delivers, I don't think twice about picking up their next book.
ReplyDeleteYea, I thought I'd have a hard time with a list initially but it was pretty easy, and I'm seeing reasons on other blogs I totally forgot!
DeleteI'm definitely picking up Dachshund Though the Snow for my winter reading.
ReplyDeleteIs it not the cutest?
DeleteA dog on the cover will always get a second look from me. If a book promises me twists and turn and deep dark secrets I want it. Also, most any horror that is professionally edited pulls me in and I want to read them all.
ReplyDeleteYes but there's never enough time!
DeleteWhat indie horror titles have you read lately? I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteMy post: http://www.lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-things-that-make-me-pick-up-a-book/
I love Hunter Shea (although he is becoming more mainstream) and I've enjoyed Alan Baxter. I've heard great things about Kristi Demeester and keep meaning to check out Rust Maidens by Gwendolyn Kiste.
DeleteI definitely look for the newest (or backlist) books by my favorite authors. That way I know what I'm getting. No unpleasant surprises, at least not usually.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!

Yea, you can usually count on your faves right?
DeleteThat Tenth Girl cover is so good. I can't wait to get to it. I can totally see myself picking up a ton of books with cute black labs on it.
ReplyDeleteI think so too and yes, bring on cute black labs!
DeleteAwesome covers get me every time! And I'd like to read more memoirs of favorite singers/ bands...
ReplyDeleteI find them so interesting.
DeleteI usually browse the new release shelf at the library, and they also have this "lucky day" shelf with extra copies of really popular books, so if you see something there, you have to grab it, or else you'll probably be waiting a long time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool concept for a shelf!
DeleteThe fellow blogger thing is SO real. I do that constantly! And ditto the pretty cover, as much as I pretend that isn't the *only* reason hah. And definitely the beloved author is a good reason!
ReplyDeleteYes, whoever said you can't judge a book by its cover has never seen how gorgeous some of them are nowadays.
DeleteI knew I would see cute dog stories on here :) I don't get to read as many because there aren't many dogs in SFF, I think that needs to change :)
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yes there does! I'd read more sci-fi if there were dogs.
DeleteHow could I have left "favorite author" off my list? LOL Definitely that one!
ReplyDeleteI am always seeing other people's lists and thinking "How did I forget that?"
DeleteDogs and Prince! I knew they'd be on your list! (Downward Dog cover cracks me up SO MUCH!)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for that book and yep, I'm pretty predictable at times.
DeleteNice reasons. I knew Prince would be in there. LOL
ReplyDeletePeople know me well.
DeleteI love your list although I'm surprised about your love of 'Prince' - nope, can't recall any mention of that at all....lol
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Haha!
DeleteSome of those are very good reasons. :)
ReplyDeleteI never would have imagined the puppies. Nope. Never woulda guessed that. lol
ReplyDeleteNot in a million years huh?
DeleteI have a few authors that are my must read but it's so hard to get to them with school. I wait for my breaks. I seem to be attracted to a good cover and book buzz.
ReplyDeletemary
I don't know how you find any time to read with school!
DeleteThat Downward Dog keeps catching my eye even though cozies aren't my top pick. I might try to get it as I'm curious about the plot! I do like to go with my must read author list too!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a cool cover.
DeleteOdd books and great covers grab me, too! I would love to read more books about Prince. 💜
ReplyDeleteI own TONS. I will be reviewing the one I read with is last interview closer to the anniversary of his death.
Delete👍✨
DeletePerfect list!! Mine would be very similar! :)
