This week's topic is unpopular bookish opinions. I can see myself struggling with this one before I even begin so I'm not guaranteeing ten!
IF YOU READ HORROR, THERE MUST BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU
I know not everyone feels this way and I'm so glad I'm seeing more horror representation, but face it, some will always consider it "odd." I had a coworker once who used to trade books with me and when her mother would visit her, she'd see them and she always tried to convince her daughter there had to be something wrong with me. We always wanted to set her mother up and do a fake sacrifice under the moon one night while she was visiting but never did.
I HATE DECKLED EDGES!
I know lots of people love them but I find them annoying and hard to read. Please tell me, do they serve a purpose?
EBOOKS/AUDIOBOOKS/PHYSICAL BOOKS (you take your pick) ARE BETTER
Really people, reading is reading. I don't care how people do it or what their preference is. I think time has proven that none of the formats are going away so I say READ ON!
YA IS ONLY FOR YOUNG ADULTS
GRAPHIC NOVELS AREN'T REALLY BOOKS
ROMANCE IS FLUFF
Seriously people. See above comment. Reading is reading and who are we to judge what other people enjoy reading. Age is nothing but a number (except for some crimes which is a whole 'nother story).
Okay so I manged to give you five. I think that's as good as it gets but I'm sure when I start reading other people's posts, I'll think "Why didn't I think of that?"
LOL I don't mind the deckled edges but I know a few who do. It was a status symbol back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI recall that too. I used to this they were so awesome, before I had any experience with them. I saw someone today call the Devil's Edges and I think that is very appropriate.
DeleteLove these - especially the ones about reading in whatever format you want - and also YA is for anyone.
ReplyDeleteHorror seems to be one of those genres that is unpopular or unfashionable or something - and yet I really enjoy it - I don't read it all the time but it's great to insert a good horror book in between my other reads.
Lynn :D
Yea, I'm just so glad there's such a variety of books out there that everyone can be happy - or at least they should be happy.
DeleteI can definitely relate about the horror. My mother never understood my love for it. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy Mom either. Luckily my Dad and my husband love it.
DeleteI wish you had done that fake sacrifice thing as that would've been funny! I hate people who think that horror fans are psychos! I have something similar in my ten!I've never seen the point in deckled edges-I'm in total agreement with you there. Same with book format as they each have advantages to them.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been! I saw quite a few similarities in our lists this week.
DeleteDeckled edges are pretty, but they make it so hard to turn the pages!
ReplyDeleteThat they do!
DeleteI hate that people dismiss YA books!!! In fact that is what I did my TTT on. I featured amazing YA and MG books. Your Horror Opinion title made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteI love that you did too. Some pretty good ones on there.
Deletei love reading about serial killers...and horror. i sometimes wonder if...well, you know, is there something wrong with me? LOL But, no, I just like the dark and dangerous.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Me too. It's always the ones you never suspect that you have to worry about anyway.
DeleteSome strong opinions here.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I love the look of deckle edges but those books are SO hard to read, lol!
ReplyDeleteThey are. I am always skipping pages and having to turn back. It's a nightmare.
DeleteI hadn't realized that people thought fans of horror had something wrong with them. I guess I can see that cliche/assumption. I always just assumed that people enjoy being scared once in a while. I know I sure do.
ReplyDeleteI love your motto of "reading is reading." That pretty much sums everything up nicely, isn't it? I'm not sure why there have to be camps that assume XYZ is better. As long as you're enjoying it, that's a win.
Here's my TTT post.
Yes, reading anything is a win in my book too!
DeleteI hate deckled edges, too. Lots of people mentioned that this week. I was surprised!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I know. I always thought everyone loved them. Now I see that may not be the case.
DeleteI hate people judging what other people read! Sure, I don't personally love romance, but a lot of people do and that's great, it's not okay to dismiss a whole genre or age category due to your own personal tastes.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2019/06/11/top-ten-tuesday-215/
Yes, there should be no judgement regarding books at all!
DeleteReading is reading! I 100% agree. Great post. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark.
DeleteI hate when people say graphic novels don't count as books. Do you know how incredible these stories are? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI know. I love them so much.
DeleteUgh! I hate tackled edges too! They make it so hard to turn the pages!
ReplyDeleteThey do. Can't stand them.
DeleteYes to deckled edges being frustrating! And I seriously wish people stop judging others for what they read, also. I see this so much, especially in regards to format ever since audiobooks have become more popular.
ReplyDeleteYes formatting is another big issue in the reading community.
DeleteThese are good ones! I think I might be the unpopular opinion when it comes to tattoos on guys in romance. Blah, I probably miss out on some great ones because a man covered in tattoos in my opinion is gross not sexy. So I pass right by them.
ReplyDeleteThat's when a Kindle comes in handy - you don't have to see the cover much :)
Delete"fake sacrifice" lol. That cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah to the whole YA is not for adults thing. *sigh*
I know. Why do people even care who is reading what?
DeleteYes! Reading is reading. I have people tell me all the time that they only read "real" books. Isn't the book really about the story and not the format.
ReplyDelete"Real" books huh? That's pretty derogatory.
DeleteWow, if people judge for your reading horror, I wonder what they think of the people who WRITE horror!

Good point! Although I'd love to have Stephen King as a neighbor. Funny story, where I grew up, a family down the road moved in and the guy's name was Stephen King. I remember briefly questioning "Could it really be him?"
DeleteI prefer ebooks over any other format but it doesn't make me like a story any more or less... I love the variety there is now on options for enjoying stories.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a book with a deckled edge... I dont think I'd want to. :)
I like ebooks because I tend to read them faster.
DeleteI love your take on this topic---taking popular "unpopular" opinions and addressing them. I totally agree with you on ALL of these!
