So as you are reading this I am officially on vacation. Or should I say stay-cation. We are planning a low-key one around the house doing a few projects, having friends and family over on the 4th and of course, some reading for me.
As of now, there are no new additions to the family. There was a possibility, and maybe still is, that the dogs I spoke about last week may be split. A family member is very close to the male. If that would happen, we MIGHT consider the female. However, honestly, I can say Mr. Barb just isn't ready. The pain of losing Booker is still too raw for both of us, but for him especially. If it were up to me, we'd get her - no questions asked. But I can't force this on him and if he's not ready, it wouldn't be fair to her. So as it stands right now, we'll go on spoiling Cass and making sure he gets lots of special attention!
There has been a lack of good rentals to stream lately so no real movie news to report. We are kind of killing time until "Stranger Things" comes back to Netflix. We do plan on buying "Pet Semetary" while on vacation for a movie-night treat though. In the meantime we started watching the Kevin Costner series "Yellowstone." We have all of season 1 to catch up on and while it's decent (kind of a mix-up of Banshee and Longmore IMO) I have to admit Costner's character is a jerk. And lots of sudden animal deaths - I'm talking horse, dog, steer, coyote, wolf. What's up with that Kevin? Really? We're only on episode 4 so I hope he got it out of his system.
I did some reading this past week and I have a fresh new stack of books to staring at me for this weekend. "The Last Stage" is for a blog tour in early July and you've seen "The Girl in Red" before. I also am feeling the need to pick up something on a whim so who knows what else I might read. I'm thinking Cherie Priest may be in my future! Oh and how could I forget, I need to finish "NOS4A2" still!
So I do have a few review books to share. The author to "Bred in the Bone" reached out to me a week or so ago. I featured this book on Books to Bark and Crow About. I will be reading it for Dog Days of Summer in August and the author is going to do a guest post for me. I forgot to share that I got a copy of "The Furies" through Netgalley as well as "The Grace Year." I really liked Kim Liggett so I have high hopes for this one. And finally, "The Retreat" sounded pretty good so I couldn't resist.
So what new books did you add this week? Watch anything good? Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Staycations are the best! Usually the vacations where I go away I actually become even more stressed at the stuff to catch up on when I come back. Being at home for a few days especially during 4th of July week sounds really nice and relaxing. And I hear ya about not taking in a dog if Mr. Barb's not ready, grief needs to go at its own pace. And thanks for the heads up about the new Pet Sematary, I didn't know it was going to be available on video already, husband and I will also have to take a look at that.

We watched Pet Sematary. It was okay and there were a few twists but I didn't love it as much as I thought I would.
DeleteI'm reading The Haunting of Hill House, and I watched Velvet Buzzsaw last night. Velvet Buzzsaw is bizarre. It's an artsy horror flick, not really scary, but full of foreboding scenes and gruesome images.
ReplyDeleteI liked the series and the book of Hill House. Velvet Buzzsaw did strike me as really weird when I saw the preview.
DeletePoor Mr Barb...Booker T's death seems to have really hurt him and I can understand him not being ready. I can also understand you wanting to help those poor dogs. It's not an easyone is it.
ReplyDeleteI like the cover for Bred in the Bone-too cute! My reading is going great and I'm zipping through things quite nicely, in spite of the hot weather!
Booked "picked" Mr. Barb when we went to look at his litter and they had such a great bond.
DeleteI have a copy of The Furies as well. That makes sense about waiting to get a new dog. But last time you said the dogs were a pair and couldn't be split up! That sort of breaks my heart that they might be now☹
ReplyDeleteI think a family member was willing to take the male which is why they may split them. The whole situation is sad.
DeleteYAY! Staycations are THE BEST!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica!
Deletei do enjoy hopping over and checking out your new books. I see one of two that i'll be checking out further. enjoy your staycation

Glad you can find something tempting here.
DeleteI like a good staycation! Sometimes it's so relaxing just to hang out at home and do stuff. Hope you guys have a great one!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about Yellowstone. I just discovered the series last week, and was wondering if it was any good.
I have The Girl in Red to read next, I just haven't started it yet.
We finally caught up on Yellowstone. Definitely a good series but yep, I still hate Costner's character.
DeleteI am really excited for the next season of Stranger Things. I hope it lives up to all our expectations. Happy July!
ReplyDeleteI liked Season 3 but was upset about a couple of things. I think Robin was a fun addition.
DeleteIt took me a year to bring a new dog home after I lost my beloved Molly. Then I ended up with two. I understand waiting until the time is right. Lots of great books and a few of them are waiting for me to read too.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about timing sometimes.
DeleteEnjoy your staycation - that sounds like such a chilled way to have a holiday break - I really like that idea.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read the Cherie Priest.
Lynn :D
Me too. I have it slated for next week!
DeleteYou can't force it. Baz mentions getting things ready for a new cat, but when I tell him that's fine if he wants to do it on his own he drops it for a while. It's not that I don't want a cat yet because if he adopted one I would love it, but I'm not ready to do the planning and looking. It's still too soon for me. 😞
ReplyDeleteOh, yay, you've read a Liggett book before! Jolene and I have The Grace Year to read, too, so it's good to hear you like her. 👍✨
Have a wonderful staycation and a great Fourth! 🌞
I do like Liggett's work and have another one I keep meaning to read.
