This week's topic is sort of a freebie one having to do with book characters. I originally was going to call this "Characters I'd Like to Smack" but figured I didn't want to encourage violence so I went with shake - but you guys get my drift.
STOKER - While I enjoy the sexual tension the author has created between Veronica and Stoker, there have been times he drove me nuts! Especially in the most recent book, A Dangerous Collaboration.
KATE DANIELS - Well, to be honest, CURRAN too! Both are so hard-headed and could have used a good shaking, especially in the beginning of their relationship.
LOUIS McDONALD JR. - I usually like grumpy elderly characters but Louis bordered on racist and perverted so he definitely needed shaken!
DETECTIVE BLACK - Although I definitely like the direction he is now headed in, in the beginning of the series, he wouldn't have known a good thing if it hit him in the head.
JONATHAN and CASS - I think my review says it best... "These two idiots, with more baggage than someone their ages should have, should never reconcile and Puddles the pup needs new owners!"
SHELLY "MAMA SHELL" HANSEN - Overbearing mother who needs to cut the cord. She was REALLY annoying.
ROBBIE VINE - Thank heavens for character growth because I really like Robbie now but in the beginning...don't even get me started!
GRETCHEN - After her scene with her dog, I'll admit it, I wanted to STAB her. I don't care if she WAS possessed.
So there, you're technically only getting 8 because my head hurts from trying to remember all the characters throughout my reading history who drove me mad. I'm sure I'll think of more after this post is long gone :)
LOL awesome choice of topic, and it's just too funny because I seem to have run into a ton of books lately with protagonists I just want to shake or slap across the face because they're just so stupid, evil, or annoying!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
They do seem to be quite prolific lately.
DeleteYour commentary about why you'd like to shake these characters is GOLD -- esp Jonathan and Cass and Mama Shell. LMAO*
ReplyDeleteThe Intermission really irritated the hell out of me. I'm kind of surprised I gave it 3/5 at the time because right now, it seems more like a 2/5.
DeleteI could fill an encyclopedia with all the characters I wanted to slap in the books I read! Jacob from Twilight would be right up there for sure-she doesn't want you stalker muppet!!!
ReplyDeleteStalker muppet! You kill me :)
DeleteHa, love your take this week, Barb!
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela.
DeleteI LOVE YOUR TWIST ON THS WEEKS TTT!!!!! Have a great rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jolene. Hope you are having a great week too.
DeleteI hate to tell you this, but shaking is just as violent as smacking, lol. I really should do my own list, I can think of a bunch!
ReplyDeleteWell, little secret. I actually teach DV Awareness classes and investigated child abuse and neglect for 14 years so I even felt a tad bad about saying shaking. However, in the book community, I feel people will understand me.
DeleteThere are always those sorts, aren't there? Not sure shaking would help some of these folks!
ReplyDeleteI know it wouldn't help Cass and Jonathan.
DeleteHihi! I really like the concept behind your list, and the fact I feel the frustration from your descriptions quite well. Some of them I'd like to try to read, while to knowing in advance what might piss me off. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great TTT post. If you'd like, you can read mine here: https://jrolik.caludin.com/index.php/2019/07/09/topical-tuesday-characters-i-can-relate-to/
Thanks for visiting. Some of the books I really loved despite their inclusion on the list - I'm looking at you The Intermission!
DeleteI think that is a perfect topic. I can think of many characters I'd like to shake, too. My TTT Characters list
ReplyDeleteLOL This was fun. I can think of many characters I'd like to shake too.
ReplyDeleteThere's always one or two right?
DeleteSome books do make you want to just shake people haha! The Raybourn series sounds really good and reminds me ( a little) of the Lady Emily series by Tasha Alexander- I was reading those a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like it. You need to give it a go!
DeleteI must have put the scene with the dog from My Best Friend's Exorcism out of my mind because I do not remember it all!
ReplyDeleteBe happy - be VERY happy.
Deletehahaha I LOVE this!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteThe dog scene in My Best Friend's Exorcism had me feeling the same way. 😢
ReplyDeleteIt was so pointless.
