Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
So the public has spoken - Cass is now a full-time contributor to Can't Wait Wednesday. That means each week you'll see two books here. Of course Cass is already lobbying for an increase in salary (at least he works for treats - and bandanas).
FROM GOODREADS: Something evil has swept into the small western Maine town of Castle Rock on the heels of the latest winter storm. Sheriff Norris Ridgewick and his team are desperately searching for two missing girls, but time is running out to bring them home alive.
In Washington D.C., thirty-seven-year-old Gwendy Peterson couldn't be more different from the self-conscious teenaged girl who once spent a summer running up Castle Rock's Suicide Stairs. That same summer, she was entrusted - or some might say cursed - with the extraordinary button box by Richard Farris, the mysterious stranger in the black suit. The seductive and powerful box offered Gwendy small gifts in exchange for its care and feeding until Farris eventually returned, promising Gwendy she'd never see the box again.
One day, though, the button box shows up without warning - and without Richard Farris to explain why, or what she's supposed to do with it. The mysterious reappearance of the box, along with the troubling disappearances in Castle Rock, leads Gwendy home again... where she just might be able to help rescue the missing girls and stop a madman before he does something ghastly.
From New York Times bestseller Richard Chizmar comes Gwendy's Magic Feather, a breathtaking novel that asks whether our lives are controlled by fate or the choices we make - and what price we might have to pay for those choices when we reach for the things we most desire. Prepare to return again to Stephen King's Castle Rock, the sleepy little town built on a bedrock of deep, dark secrets, which is about to awaken from its quiet slumber once more.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: When I read "Gwendy's Button Box" my biggest complaint was that I wanted more because it was just a novella. Glad to see sometimes you CAN get what you want!
CASSIUS'S PICK:
FROM GOODREADS: The circus is in town, and on the planet Boon, that’s big, potentially riotous news. The delicate, decaying political balance maintained by the cloned human grands at the expense of the uplifted dog and cat populations is in danger of toppling under the influence of mysterious forces both outer and inner. When Gio Barbaro—clone descendant of one of Boon’s ancient leaders, junior Senator, known friend to dogs and secret iconoclast—is recruited by the ringmaster cat, Scratch, he’s knowingly going against everything his family and class believes in. The question, though, is what Gio believes in.
WHY CASS CAN'T WAIT: Hey Mom! Can I join the circus????
(NO Cass, our lives are circus enough - just read your book).
SO WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
I love the colour of the book that Cass chose-that is cute and funny!
ReplyDeleteI know, you don't see very many well done pinkish books that aren't romance.
DeleteHow cool that the first book is set in the Stephen King universe!
ReplyDeleteI adored Gwendy's Button Box and hope this one doesn't disappoint.
DeleteOooh! The Dogs and Cats book sounds really interesting! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

You and Cass have good taste in books, Barb. Both of these sound really unique and interesting. And I haven't heard of either of them so I need to add them to my list!
ReplyDeleteThat's what we're here for - to make everyone's TBR grow :)
DeleteKing of the Dogs, Queen of the Cats sounds awesome! Also I love the title. Great choices😁
ReplyDeleteI hope it's good. I'm dying to get my hands on a copy.
DeleteI am probably going to have to get the audiobook of Gwendy's Magic Feather. I do wonder why King didn't co-author this one though. I think you should let Cass join the circus! It sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteGwendy is so short - basically a novella. I bought it because I collect King books but it was really overpriced for its length when it first came out.
Deleteoh wow "Gwendy's Magic Feather" does sound so good and THE COVER! Insta love! And it's in Main! Yay! I'm glad in this case you got what you wanted! :)
ReplyDeleteGotta love a book set in Maine!
Deletethey both look good but dogs and cats is the one that really caught my eye. hope you enjoy them both
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Such a fun cover!
DeleteI still need to read Gwendy's Button Box, didn't realize there would be a sequel! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Wednesday post
I never knew there would be either which had always made me kind of sad because when I read it I wanted more!
DeleteThese are some great picks!
ReplyDeleteMy CWW
Thanks
DeleteI'll have to look for Gwendy's Button Box and Gwendy's Magic Feather. I love the sound of both. And an older protagonist to boot! Cass would make a great circus performer, but I agree with her mom on not joining up. LOL
ReplyDeleteYea I like that aspect as well.
DeleteBoth of these books sounds intriguing! I love a small town setting and who can resist a circus? I hope that you enjoy both of them. :)
ReplyDeleteCertainly not Cass apparently.
DeleteGwendy's Magic Feather sounds unique, magical, and fascinating! I love the cover too! Thanks for sharing Barb :)
ReplyDeleteLindy@ A Bookish Escape
You're quite welcome!
DeleteNice, I was hoping that King of Dogs and Queen of the Cats book would be on your radar! Trust Cass to get on that :D I got an ARC of it from the publisher and I'm curious to say the least. Would be interested to hear your thoughts when you get the chance to read it!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yep. I think I may have seen you mention it first. I know I saw it somewhere.
DeleteCass picked well! I haven't read a book quite like this one before. (I hope you enjoy Gwendy's MAgic feather!)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteBoth of these are great picks and also new to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura.
DeleteOooh a circus book! Bonus points for your recommendation, Cass!
ReplyDeleteI'm cautiously optimistic about the Gwendy sequel. I think S. King wrote most of the first one and Chizmar finished it up so we'll see how he does writing this one without King.
Yea I hope I am not disappointed.
DeleteI love the covers of both of these books! The summaries sound wonderful, too. I'm going to look for the Button Box novella. Thanks for sharing the new one; and thanks for your book also, Cass. 👍✨
ReplyDeleteI think you might like Gwendy's Button Box. And it's shorter so you're not investing a lot of time like a lot of other King novels.
DeleteI'm glad you got your wish with the full length Gwendy's book. Hope that works out really well for you.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Thanks...here's hoping!
