Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
So the public has spoken - Cass is now a full-time contributor to Can't Wait Wednesday. That means each week you'll see two books here. Of course Cass is already lobbying for an increase in salary (at least he works for treats - and bandanas).
FROM GOODREADS: If Shirley Jackson wrote The Shining, it might look like this novel from the acclaimed author of Baby Teeth: A mother must become a protector when unnatural forces threaten her family's new and improved life in a rural farmhouse.
The Bennett family -- artist parents and two precocious children -- leave their familiar urban surroundings for a new home in far upstate New York. They're an hour from the nearest city, a mile from the nearest house, and everyone has their own room for the very first time. Shaw, the father, even gets his own painting studio, now that he and his wife Orla, a retired dancer, have agreed that it's his turn to pursue his passion.
But none of the Bennetts expect what lies waiting in the lovely woods, where secrets run dark and deep. Orla must finally find a way to communicate with -- not just resist -- this unknown entity that is coming to her family, calling to them from the land, in the earth, beneath the trees ... and in their minds.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I still need to read Baby Teeth but for the most part, I've heard decent things about it. And who can resist the temptation that this reads like The Shining from Shirley Jackson's perspective. Color me curious.
CASSIUS'S PICK
FROM GOODREADS: Laid off, cheated on, mugged: what else can go wrong in Maeve Stephens’ life? So when she learns her birth mother has left her a house, a vintage VW Beetle, and a marauding cat, in the small town of Timber Creek, Washington, she packs up to discover the truth about her past.
She arrives to the sight of a cheerful bulldog abandoned on her front porch, a reclusive but tempting author living next door, and a set of ready-made friends at the St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets, where women knit colorful sweaters for the dogs and cats in their care. But there’s also an undercurrent of something that doesn’t sit right with Maeve. What’s the secret (besides her!) that her mother had hidden?
If Maeve is going to make Timber Creek her home, she must figure out where she fits in and unravel the truth about her past. But is she ready to be adopted again—this time, by an entire town…?
WHY CASS CAN'T WAIT: I know Mom loved Pupcakes and often features it here on her blog. I think it's cool that women are knitting sweaters for dogs and cats - sometimes we need a little extra warmth. However, it says when Maeve arrives home, she finds an abandoned bulldog on the porch. Do you think we should tell the publishers that dog on the cover isn't a bulldog??? Mom's gonna be miffed!
SO WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
Once again, Cassiuss's pick sounds great, but I can't read your pick, Barb! Sounds too scary for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, when October is over, I probably won't be featuring QUITE as much horror.
DeleteThese are both great choices. I'm running to add Wonderland to my shelf right now!! And that cover is pretty creepy:-)
ReplyDeleteYea, I'm curious to learn more about that one.
DeleteLove Cass's pick! That cover is so cute! Not sure about the first book though.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Wednesday post
You can always count on Cass for cute!
DeleteThey both sounds really good!! Love the cover for Wayward Pets.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it awesome?
DeleteBoth of these sound awesome! Love the dog on the cover of St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets. Reminds me of my Sadie. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, how sweet. Sadie is a cutie then.
DeleteTwo more for my wish list! I wish my job was reading books. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen you find one that pays for that, please clue me in.
DeleteHmmm, I am not sure about this one so I will let you be the guinea pig on it...lol. :) Cass's pick looks cute though! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna list guinea pig as my side job.
DeleteWonderland sounds fantastic but the end of Baby Teeth took a turn that didn't thrill me. But I'm cold-blooded, lol.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I admire your cold-bloodedness :)
DeleteOooh! These sound like cute reads! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW!

Oh man Baby Teeth was a trip- I imagine this will be too!
ReplyDeleteI need to make time for it (story of my life).
DeleteI think that I love Cassius' pick this week! What a cute cover to boot. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is an adorable cover.
DeleteYou know, I hate it when the cover is different than the story. How hard would it be to use the right breed of dog? Although, the dog on the cover is pretty cute :) These both sound really good and I hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteYou would think it would be such an easy thing to do!
DeleteI hope you and Cassius both enjoy reading your picks this week!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
Thanks Sandra.
DeleteI recently added Wonderland to my watchlist too! It sounds very interesting, I hope we'll both love it
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Me too!
DeleteThe blurb for Wonderland gave me the shivers, while Wayward Pets cover made me smile so much! I am curious about Maeve's mother's secrets too.
ReplyDeleteI know, what can she be hiding?
DeleteI agree Cass, the publisher should be able to put the right dog on the book cover! That is very sloppy!
ReplyDeleteCass says "you're fired publishers!"
DeleteWonderland sounds like something I'd love. Adding it to the list thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnd love the cover of the book Cass picked.
Lynn :D
Thanks Lynn and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteI am not a horror fan, to be honest. And "Wonderland" sounds pretty much like on. I know Stephen King, though I never read one of his books. I guess it is a huge compliment for any other author, put in line with him or when compared to him. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI always worry when I see comparisons though.
DeleteOooh! Wonderland sounds awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI think so too!
DeleteOh cool. I really enjoyed Baby Teeth so I'll definitely have to check out Wonderland. Great picks this week!
ReplyDeleteI know people either love or hate Baby Teeth. Interested to see where I fall.
DeleteWonderland does sound really intriguing. I haven't read Baby Teeth either. Wayward Pets sounds like a lot of fun. I want to read that one too!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed her other book so much this is an auto-read.
DeleteI am super curious about Wonderland now. I think I'll add it to Goodreads. 👍✨
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with all the wrong dogs on covers? 🙄
