Honestly I'm not sure how to make this a top ten list so basically I'm just gonna share some thoughts.
Up until last year, I really didn't let myself DNF books but I've since decided life is too short so now I'm more apt to do so if I'm not interested in what I'm reading.
About 2 years ago I decided to give science-fiction a chance as it was one of the few genres I never read much of. Now, I enjoy dabbling in it from time to time.
I totally blame Stormi's influence because now I'm also a multiple book reader at one time. Until about a year ago I was pretty much a one-at-a-time reader.
I've always read a variety of genres but do tend to go through phases.
Until about 4 years ago, I never dreamed of participating in reading challenges but now I love them and can't wait to see what I decide to do in 2020!
I am also now active on Twitter and Instagram - will wonders never cease???
So there you have it. That's about all I have. Can't wait to see what everyone else does this week!
Multiple books is a new thing for me too -- and my mind still boggles that I read two books at a time!
ReplyDeleteI know. I think what helps me is that I usually have an ebook and a physical one going at the same time. That way when the Kindle is charging, I can grab a physical one.
DeleteWelcome to the world of the mad DNFers! I have also had fun dabbling a bit more in SF or at least certain types of it! I might scale back my reading challenges a bit next year-it has went a bit mad this month!
ReplyDeleteI have always admired the way you can DNF. It shows me that you truly enjoy reading and know how valuable your time is. I've been trying really had and even actually DNF'ed a blog tour book over the weekend. That was a big step for me but I can't overlook puppy sacrifice.
DeleteI am with you on the DNF front. I always would finish a book no matter how painful but now I have the same attitude. Life is too short and there are too many other books to read to waste time on something I don't like. I am the opposite with Twitter and IG. I used to be on all the time but, not so much anymore. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteI still don't use them a lot, but considering two years ago I rarely used Twitter and didn't even have an instagram account, anything is progress.
DeleteI'm also getting better at DNFing books. It's so hard when you get them from publishers or authors, but really life's too short😁
ReplyDeleteI know. I still struggle with those but sometimes you just have to do it.
DeleteIt's cool that you gave science fiction a shot!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
Yes, I read Gods of Prey and Outpost as my first two and loved them both. And maybe Saga because I think I did the graphic novel thing first now that I think about it.
DeleteI'm so glad that I've gotten more comfortable putting a book down if I don't enjoy it. There are so many other books that are begging to be read to spend time on ones that I feel like I'm only hate-reading.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!
Deletei think blogging has changed all our reading habits. i too have opened myself up to genres i used to shrug at. i am reading a scifi series that i never would have read just last year. am lovin' it too

I should have mentioned how long my wishlist/TBR is now. Now THAT has grown by a huge amount.
DeleteGreat list! I should definitely DNF more. I mostly just try to finish books but sometimes this really slows my reading down. I also kind of go through phases of reading, right now I'm in a mystery thriller phase! :)
ReplyDeleteI find when I don't DNF and I want to, it often leads to a slump.
DeleteI absolutely agree with all of these. It took me ages to be able to put a book down if I wasn't enjoying it - but now, nope. Life is too short and there are too many books to spend time reading the ones you don't love.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Yes, I always try to keep that in mind.
DeleteSame with Twitter! Although I'm not sure how active I actually am lol. Also glad you like the occasional SF! I've tried so many new genres since I started blogging and it's amazing how many faves I've discovered. who knew??
ReplyDeleteSame here and also with instagram. I'm sometimes amazed I have as many followers as I do there.
DeleteI guess I am more likely to have several books going at the same time than I used to be...I don't think I can blame Stormi though :)
ReplyDeleteHaha - that's true.
DeleteYes to reading challenges! I want to start planning mine for 2020, too!
ReplyDeleteI know. I've been searching the internet already!
DeleteThese sound a lot like me! I've particularly taken to book juggling ever since I started book blogging.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Seems to me blogging and juggling go hand in hand.
DeleteI sure have changed in how I read too. I often read several books at a time. I still can't not finish a book though. LOL
ReplyDeleteI do it rarely but am able to do it some now.
DeleteI've always been an adult fiction SciFi/Fantasy reader. The YA Paranormal, and then Dystopian, slant didn't come around until my split with my son's father and my sister deciding the best way to help me feel better was to bring me piles of books from the library. Ha ha. She was my personal library shopper until I got my Kindle. I still enjoy a good diverse/issues YA Contemporary now and then, but I am definitely off YA Fantasy and SciFi, right now. I'm back to mostly adult books again, with quite a few Middle Grades. 😊
ReplyDeleteI think I'll always be a phase reader - but dogs and horror stick the most. I do like a good contemporary with a dog angle though.
DeleteDNFing and social media made my list too. I never thought I’d be a social media person, but blogging made me do it.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm really happy to see so many people coming around to listing books as DNF. It is something I really struggle with (it frustrates me when I can't finish stuff--I get a bit obsessive about it) but I've definitely improved with it. I love that we are all collectively learning that we deserve to devote our time to books we love/enjoy rather than struggle through finishing one we're not keen on.
ReplyDeleteI used to really struggle with DNFing, but like you, realized life is too short! :)
