Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: An exploration of one of the darkest moments in our history, when American troops killed four American students protesting the Vietnam War.
May 4, 1970.
Kent State University.
As protestors roil the campus, National Guardsmen are called in. In the chaos of what happens next, shots are fired and four students are killed. To this day, there is still argument of what happened and why.
Told in multiple voices from a number of vantage points -- protestor, Guardsman, townie, student.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I had a good friend at my last job who was at Kent State when this occurred. I admit I don't know a lot about it and I think this will be a good way to learn. Plus, I think the cover is really well done.
CASSIUS'S PICK:
FROM GOODREADS: The charming village of Fox Crossing, Maine (founded 1805) is the last bit of civilization before the 100-mile wilderness, the wildest and arguably most beautiful stretch of the Appalachian Trail. The little town has something else to offer as well... something rare, something that a few even call magic. It has The Fox. Crossing paths with a black cat is said to bring bad luck. But crossing paths with The Fox is a whole other story...
SOME SAY THE FOX IS GOOD LUCK
In the mountain village of Fox Crossing, Maine, everyone knows the story of The Fox. According to local legend, one of the town's founders crossed paths with a curious-looking fox with a distinctive white ear and paw. The unusual fox sighting not only inspired the town's name, it sparked a fantastical piece of folklore that's been passed down for generations. Some people say that whoever sees The Fox will be rewarded with good fortune, love, and happiness. Others say it's just a silly folk tale...
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?
Annie Hatherley doesn't believe The Fox legend--even though it was her great-great-great-grandmother who spotted the critter centuries ago. But now it's part of Annie's legacy, along with her family business, Hatherley's Outfitters. For years, Annie's been selling gear to hikers on the Appalachian Trail. But she's never seen The Fox--until now. Out of nowhere, this little white-eared vixen leads her to Nick Ferrone, a woefully unprepared hiker who needs her help. The Shoo Fly Bakery owner also spots the sly creature--who takes him to a homeless dog that needs his love. Annie can't deny that something magical is happening--because she's starting to fall for a certain foxy hiker named Nick...
WHY CASSIUS CAN'T WAIT: I'll be honest, I just plain like the cover. It makes me happy and I think it makes Mom happy too. And Lord, do we need more happy right now.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
I love foxes and they are always coming into our garden day and night. My highlight was at a rescue centre where I got licked by the cutest little rescued fox cub! I've always rooted for foxes since I first read Fantastic Mr Fox as a kid! Cass, keep looking after mum and dad! They need you right now!
ReplyDeleteOh, foxes are my favorite! Good choice, Cassius. And I don't blame him for just plain liking the cover, I do too :D

I agree with Cassius! I am in favour of some happy reading, too. I hope that you both enjoy your picks. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat fox!!❤ I'm definitely in need of a happy book right now. Kent State sounds like it could be interesting, and I do love that cover.
ReplyDeleteKent State sounds like such an interesting read - at first I thought it might be a nonfiction book, but I like the multiple POVs.
ReplyDeletethe fox looks cute. i remember kent state, the protests, and all the ugliness of the time
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I'd read Fox Crossing just for that cover! Too cute. :D
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy both of these!

I had friends whose families have lived in Kent forever and you know, no one talks about it and you get the feeling it's forbidden. My sister was fourteen the first time we visited Ohio and was curious because my friend and I talked about it briefly during the car trip there, and she brought the subject up during dinner, in that unaware teenage sort of way. It was like someone had dumped ice water over their heads. They were certainly shocked she brought it up. 😯
ReplyDeleteI love foxes, too, Cass! Great choice. 👍✨
I can't wait to see what you think of both of these!
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard about the shooting at Kent State, but I don’t know all the details. I might have to pick that book up.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
The first one looks intense! And of course I love the cover of the second one.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Wednesday post
Oh wow that book on Kent State could be really good! I remember learning about that but I don't feel like I know a ton about it...
ReplyDeleteI hope you end up liking them.
ReplyDeleteThe Kent State book sounds really good. I like that it's told from different perspectives. Definitely one I will have to look for. Metz's book sounds so fun! Another great choice. I hope you enjoy both of these! Stay well and safe.
