Can't Wait Wednesday (285)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

SYNOPSIS: Two years ago, Maria Fontana was the deciding vote on a jury that set alleged serial killer Wyatt Butler free. Now, she and her family are enjoying vacation on a two week long transatlantic cruise. But when passengers are discovered brutally murdered in a similar way to Butler’s ritualistic MO, the ship goes on lockdown. Maria, one of only twelve people in the world with intimate knowledge of the case, faces a perilous ticking clock. Is it a copycat? Or is she trapped on board with the bloodthirsty maniac she chose to set free?

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  I love the idea of brutal murders happening on a ship where no one can really escape.  Plus it seems like I'm collecting books by James S. Murray in case I decide I should ever read one!

CASSIUS'S PICK:

FROM GOODREADS: These real-life stories of senior dogs who found forever homes through Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary will delight any young animal lover.

In this lighthearted, easy-to-read nonfiction chapter book, you’ll find
the true stories of how fifteen dogs found a home
doggy stats and fun facts
recipes for your own canine friend
information on adopting and owning pets, caring for aging animals, ideas for helping a pet with special needs, and ways kids can get involved with their local animal shelter or rescue
illustrated line drawings of each featured dog and a full-color photo insert

The stories of sweet, sassy, and sometimes hilarious old friends offer kids a unique reminder that no one is too old to give or receive love.

WHY CASSIUS CAN'T WAIT:  I think puppies are great, don't get me wrong, but the senior dogs out there need their recognition too.  I'm almost a senior and I know Mom and Dad will love me no matter what.  I can't wait to hear about these special pets!

WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

  1. Haha, I love your comment about collecting Murray/Wearmouth books because I know you've got their other trilogy on your tbr. I'm wavering on whether or not to check out this, maybe I'll wait to see if it's a series and if it doesn't fizzle!

  2. I like the sound of The Stowaway...might need to check out some reviews on that when time allows. Yes I agree senior dogs are just as important!

  3. Yes, you would be a captive audience on board a boat at sea. Scary.

  4. Ooh, Stowaway sounds good! I love the idea of everyone being trapped on the ship!

  5. Boy, Murray and Wearmouth sure are busy, they have another book coming out this fall besides this one. And sign me up for rescue stories of senior dogs!! I wish I could take them all❤

    1. I know I was surprised to see another book by them pop up. I love all dogs and Mr. Barb and I would love to open a rescue someday!

  6. Both of these sound good. And I too like stories where a murder takes place in an isolated location. Not many places to hide! LOL

  7. Homecoming Tales looks so wholesome. I still call my older dogs puppies and will do so even when they are considered senior dogs. And I just looked it up and it turns out my puppies are now considered seniors. Time flies!

    1. Oh I agree, all of our dogs are puppies despite their ages.

  8. Ooo... murder mysteries on ships are always a charm - because no one can escape!! This one sounds great, Barb, I hope you enjoy it. And Cassius, as ever, you show sublime taste. What a lovely read...

  10. The first one is by that author with the book about the giant spider, right? Because that one sounded good! And I love the dog book. I want so bad to help out a senior dog, but I know how hard it is to lose a dog, to have to make decisions, and I think it would break my heart to do it over and over so soon. I just know that I will love my dogs and not ever let them go. Breaks my heart when I see people do that. Great picks this week!

  13. Ooh fun. I like thrillers or mysteries set on a ship too- something about it adds to the suspense. :)

  14. I teared up reading the blurb for Homecoming Tales and will be a wreck by the end if I read that one. The Stowaway makes me claustraphobic -- just the idea of being on a ship and not being able to go anywhere AND THEN there's a killer onboard!

    1. I think because Homecoming Tales is a kid's book, maybe I can handle it better. I'm reading a dog book now an author sent me and while it's awesome, I've already cried twice!

  15. The Stowaway sounds really good. I read something similiar written by Mary Higgins Clark some years ago. Hope you will enjoy it. Happy reading.

  17. Great pick, Cass! My family adopted a senior cocker spaniel and a senior Irish Setter when I was a teenager, and I loved them both dearly. 💟 I will add this to Goodreads for next year's DDOS. 🐾✨
