Weekly Reads (01/05/17) A Brand New Year

Well, a new year is upon us and I hope it's treating everyone well.  We finally got our first snow accumulation ("I smell snow") and while it sure is pretty coming down, it could have hit on a day I could have stayed home and did nothing rather than having to venture out and go to work.  It's hard enough heading back after an extended break and now this.  I am so ready for spring!

The pups are doing well.  They are still enjoying their Christmas loot.  We've managed to watch a few movies lately.  We finally streamed Civil War and while I don't know why we held off, at least it has already hit Netflix so we didn't have to pay an additional cost to stream it.  We also rented Blair Witch 2016 Tuesday night.  I was never a huge fan of the original, but I have to admit this one was pretty decent.  There were a few scary parts but I'm still not a big fan of "lost footage" types of movies.

Looking back at last Friday's post, I am glad to say I finished two of the books I had planned and have started "Little Heaven."  My review for "Certain Dark Things" will be up next week but it is an AWESOME book!  This week I plan to continue with "Little Heaven" and upon finishing it, will be starting "A Perilous Undertaking."  Thanks for everyone who commented on my MUSTS and MIGHTS idea, I think it's a keeper and will be a regular monthly feature rather than a straight up TBR.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead and since the NFL playoffs start this week...GO STEELERS!

  1. I've been reading raves for Little Heaven, I'm looking forward to your review! I may try to squeeze it in if I can.

    1. I read a little more last night but am suffering from a killer headache the past few days so I'm not getting very far. It is picking up some and so far, I'm enjoying it even if I am finding it a tad bit slow.

  2. I don't watch the found footage films. I couldn't make out half of what was going on in the original Blair Witch Project and at the end I'm thinking 'what happened?' My dad hates them as well. Show me the action!

    1. You know, I've actually found Blair Witch 2 and this new one both to be better than the original. Usually in lost footage films I spend the entire film wishing they would all hurry up and die and in this one, I at least wanted one or two characters to survive. However, when it's lost footage, you kind of already know how it ends.

  3. Lost footage films are not my cup of tea, they are to jerky and make me feel sick to my tummy. I have Civil War in my list to stream but not sure why I haven't watched it, probably cause I hate that my two favorites are waring against each other...lol. Glad your enjoying Little Heaven even though it's a bit slow, hate when that happens. I need to read Perilous Undertaking as well, so hope that is a good one. Hope your headache goes away, hate those worst than just about anything.

    1. Thanks Stormi. I think I'd be a lot farther along if it wasn't for the headache. I have high hopes for A Perilous Undertaking after loving the first book so much. I hated the Captain American and Iron Man feuding in Civil War as well but after the movie finished, I'm team Iron Man all the way! Interested to see what you think so you need to make time for it soon :) (like you don't have enough to do without me adding to the list huh?)

  4. I need to get started on Little Heaven. I tried to resist it, but couldn't. LOL Civil War is so fun. I watched it twice and will be watching it with my son again this weekend.

    1. It's mot as quick of a read as I had hoped. I'm enjoying it and it reminds me a tad of Stephen King, but since I hate comparisons, that's about all I'll say. I have to admit, Cutter's mind does sort of scare me a bit.

  5. I wish winter would just go away. I need to move somewhere that doesn't have winter. I haven't even heard of Civil War so I will have to look that up. Enjoy your week of reading!

    1. I'm over winter already too. I don't hate the snow as much as the single digit temps.

  6. A Perilous Undertaking does look good. And there's snow here too- it's like 10 degrees. :( Ugh winter. I liked Civil War and should watch it again now that it's on Netflix...

    Have a super weekend!

  7. Glad to hear such good things about Blair Witch & Certain Dark Things. Both are on my list. I recently watched Hush on Netflix. It was super good, much better than I was hoping it would be. I figured I'd be bored but it was one tense flick. We also watched The Christmas Horror Story you recommended and loved it. What a nasty fun little anthology. And Krampus was kind of sexy, lol. How do your doggies like the snow? My coonhound from the south LOVES it. He leaps like a deer and runs around like a lunatic when it's fresh.

    1. I'll have to check out Hush. I've seen it but never actually started it yet. Glad you enjoyed The Christmas Horror Story and you are right about Krampus. The pups like snow and I swear, it makes Cassius a tad bit evil (actually it just makes him more rambunctious). I'd love too see your coonhound play in it - I bet it's super cute.

  8. Yay, I'm glad you got to read Certain Dark Things! It was really fun, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it. We got our first snow accumulation this week too, and I hear it's going to get worse in the next couple of days. At least it waited until the weekend to get really bad :)

    1. I agree about waiting for the weekend. We didn't get a lot of snow but single digit temps all weekend. At least it's going to get up in the 50's later this week. The weather is suffering from mood swings!

  9. Certain Dark Things made it on to many best of lists last year. I'm thinking I may need to give it a read.
