This top 10 weekly meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and can be found HERE. Each week they focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading. Today I'm sharing with you books that I loved less/more than I thought I would.
LESS
This making the list is really a no-brainer!
This wasn't a bad read but I had heard so many things about Danielle Vega that I expected more.
So many people seemed to love this graphic novel - not me.
So I basically can't stand Alice....
I should have DNF'd this one. I really remember nothing about it now so why did I bother?
MORE
When I picked this up, I hadn't read a lot of historical fiction so I was surprised how much I loved it - especially when it had supernatural elements.
Ok, so I knew chances were good I would love this book, but I had no idea how much. I also really need to get this edition of this book.
I had no freakin' clue how awesome this book would be!
Simply no words.
I need another book like this in my life.
So, I can't wait to see what made everyone's lists this week. Thanks for stopping by!
I hated Alice in Wonderland. Like, really just... hated it. I don't see what other people see in it, other than maybe nostalgia if they read it as a kid. But I also LOVED A Criminal Magic! But I couldn't put it on a list like this because I fully expected to love that one considering I love both magic and the Prohibition Era lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to find someone else who didn't like Alice in Wonderland. I'm really interested in reading some retellings but the original left a bad taste in my mouth.
DeleteThe Dark Days Club is on my list! Glad it was a positive one! My Top Ten
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to read the second installment which was just released soon.
DeleteI don't recognize any of those titles! Geez, where have I been? lol! I just did 10 books I liked more than expected, because I would have needed a lot more space to list the ones I liked less... I often come in with too high expectations it seems!
ReplyDeleteI tend to stay away from books with lots of hype until they die down - I'm almost always disappointed in them.
DeleteI read a Nick Cutter book a while back that everyone raved about and I just found it dull and boring (The Troop). I wouldn't want to read anything else of his.
ReplyDeleteI own The Troop. I've heard it's better than Little Heaven but right now I have no interest in finding out.
DeleteGreat list, I so know why Little Heaven made your list. ;) Some of those I have heard of and others I don't remember so if you reviewed them they didn't stick with me...lol. I want to read Criminal Magic and The Suicide Motor Club! :)
ReplyDeleteEvery year it seems I have a book or two that ends up on lots of lists - this year it might be Little Heaven. You know what they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity right?
DeleteOh I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain. I am like you in I knew I would like it but just not how much. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI know, it's such an awesome book. I just wanted to snuggle with Enzo the whole time I was reading it.
DeleteCouldn't help but smile at the dog cover. Makes me think of Snoopy and the Red Baron. :-)
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental My TT
You're right, it does remind me of the Red Baron.
DeleteSo surprised to Little Heaven on this list, lol!
ReplyDeleteYea, go figure!
DeleteI like that you split the list! ;) I'm eager to read The Dark Days Club - it's been on my shelf for awhile now. And The Art of Racing in the Rain. :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Dark Days Club so much more than I originally thought I would so I would say yes, go pick it up!
DeleteSo much yes to the Allie Brosh book! There were a few stories where I laughed until I cried and I just loved it. She has a new book listed but the pub date keeps getting pushed out but I'm hopeful that it will come out eventually!
ReplyDeleteI know. I keep waiting for its release as well. This one is so good and I even found myself reading parts of it to my husband (who probably didn't care or find it half as amusing as I did).
DeleteI need to make time for The Dark Days Club. Everybody raved about the first one and now everyone is raving about the second! I also wasn't a big fan of Sex Criminals if it makes you feel any better. :)
ReplyDeleteThank heavens. I was really feeling like I missed something with Sex Criminals. I didn't know people were raving about the second Dark Days book. Good to know!
DeleteI actually haven't read any of these but I do want to read the Buehlman book and have read good things about it - plus now it's here on your liked it more than you expected. No brainer really.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
It's really is great and a lot of other bloggers loved it as well.
DeleteI love The Art of Racing in the Rain and that cover is great. I skipped over Little Heaven when I saw you having trouble with it but I do have a review copy that I need to get to at some point.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Little Heaven. Maybe you'll like it better than I did. Some people loved it.
DeleteOooh you have made me VERY excited to read Dark Days Club and A Criminal Magic! I now have to look up Little Heaven just because I am curious about why it was so bad hahahha. Sad about The Woodcutter too, because that cover is lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely pick those two up. I think A Criminal Magic was one of my favorite books from 2016.
DeleteSurvive the Night looks intriguing (must be that cover) and I've heard Cutter's books are horror and I don't read a ton of that, so... The Art of Racing looks fun, and I want to read Hyperbole and Half!!!
ReplyDeleteDo, it's hilarious!
DeleteI'm with you on Little Heaven. Disappointed in how that turned out considering how much I enjoyed The Troop by Nick Cutter. I was also disappointed in Suicide Motor Club actually, I think his book The Lesser Dead was a better vampire story, but glad to hear you enjoyed it!
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I keep meaning to grab The Lesser Dead. I know my library has a copy but with review books, my library books tend to take a backseat lately.
DeleteIt's nice to know that The Dark Days Club worked for you. I really tried to get through it especially since I love historical fiction. But it kind of bored me :(
ReplyDeleteThat's sad but hey, there are plenty of other great books out there for you to read!
DeleteThe art of racing in the rain has the cutest cover, but it sucks that you didn't love it heaps :(
ReplyDeleteOh,I did. Maybe I didn't communicate it well. It's one of my all-time faves and I'm on the hunt for that cover which I think is Canadian.
DeleteI have to check out The Dark Days Club. Just added it. I'm reading Hyperbole and Hal and I've decided that I WILL CARRY THAT BOOK WITH ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. OMG!!! it's hysterical Love it SO MUCH!
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome isn't it? I can't wait for her new one and wish the release date would stop getting pushed back!
Deleteooh picked up The Dark Days Club cheap on kindle the other week, I haven't got around to reading it yet, but I hope I enjoy it as much as you did, I generally don't read that much historical fiction but there have been several recently that have caught my attention.
ReplyDelete- Hills of Books
I wasn't so sure about it either when I read it but it turned out to be one I really love. It has a great paranormal element which I think helps. I really don't read straight historical fiction.
DeleteThe only historical fiction I have really read have either had some 'fantasy' elements like fae or have been based around other stories or legends (e.g Jane Eyre or Robin Hood) so straight historical fictions not really my thing either. :)
DeleteI love your "more" list!
