Can't Wait Wednesday (111) - The One Where Booker T Teaches Mom a Lesson

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Mom can't come to the blog right now - she's in time out.  I can't believe she featured another darn cat book last week.  I don't care if it was a vampire cat.  One of her blogger friends made a very good point about all cats being vampires and I would have to agree.  Anyway. I have found not one, not two, but THREE dog books to share with you guys.  TAKE THAT MOMMY DEAREST!  And to prove how mad I am, I even messed up her font!

FROM GOODREADS: Joal Derse Dauer was just donating blankets at a local no-kill shelter when a disabled and despondent dog caught her eye. With three "fur babies" already at home, Joal wasn't looking to adopt another dog. But there was something special about Sadie, a shepherd mix who had been shot in the head and in the back and left for dead in the hills of Kentucky after giving birth. One gaze into those sorrowful eyes and Joal vowed to do everything possible to get the pitiful creature walking again.
The first three vets offered little hope for Sadie and two even recommended euthanasia. But with patience, hope, and plenty of love, Joal noticed a change in her canine companion. And somewhere along the difficult journey, she discovered that sweet Sadie had transformed her life in ways she never could have imagined.

FROM GOODREADS: Richmond Rogues’ left-fielder Joe “Zoo” Zooker has his own ritual for the start of spring training—a weekend of pure pleasure, including as many pretty faces and curvaceous bodies as he can charm into his bed. After that, he’s all about baseball, especially with hungry minor leaguers eager for their own shot at the majors, just waiting for him to strike out. But when a beautiful woman with a smart mouth brushes off his flirting, he’s determined to go to bat as often as it takes to win a smile aimed only at him.

Stevie may be new to the beach town of Barefoot William, but she’s seen plenty of charmers like hot and hunky Zoo before. Managing her aunt’s doggie daycare business, she’s up to her ears in rowdy puppies—and she doesn’t need a lifelong hound like Zoo breaking her heart. Still, there’s no denying the attraction between them, and as spring training heats up, lust suddenly begins to look a lot like love . . .

FROM GOODREADS: Eric met Peety when he was 150 pounds overweight, depressed, and sick. After a lifetime of failed diet attempts, and the onset of serious diabetes due to his weight, Eric went to a new doctor, who surprisingly prescribed a shelter dog. And that's when Eric met Peety: a middle-aged and forgotten shelter dog who, like Eric, had seen better days. The two adopted each other and began an incredible journey together, and the bond of unconditional love they formed forever changed their lives. Over the next year, just by going on walks, playing together and eating plant-based food, Eric lost 150 pounds, and Peety lost 25. As a result, Eric reversed his type 2 diabetes, got off all medication, became happy and healthy for the first time in his life, and even reconnected with and married his high school sweetheart. WALKING WITH PEETY is perfect for anyone who is ready to make a change in their life and for everyone who knows the joy, love and hope that dogs can bring to human lives. This is more than a tale of mutual rescue, this is an epic story of friendship and strength.

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  Because I don't see a single mention of a cat in any of these books!

PS - I'm even encouraging Cassius to take over next week and leave her in time out again.

  1. That's it Booker T, you tell her what's what! I thought it was mean to feature a cat and then ask us to lie to you about it. I told her I didn't like that! Saving Sadie sounds a bit too sad for me...I cry at anything! I hope your mom does penance and buys these for you to say sorry...

  6. Good choices Booker T, but do give your mom a break ;) There aren't enough good dog books out there and a vampire cat is nothing to slouch your nose at. The cat is still a villain. That said maybe get her Good Guys Love Dogs by Inglath Cooper.

    Here's my WoW.

  12. Got a couple of emotional reads in there. As good as they sound, I'll skip those. I don't like crying when reading much. But, I hope you and Mom enjoy the books.

    1. I doubt I'll read them right away. I have to space emotional reads apart. I still can't gear myself up to watch "A Dog's Purpose."

  16. Time out, sadly, may be the only option when those darned cats get free rein of the place. :) Glad you're restoring some order with dog books! These sound great, but especially Walking with Peety! Sounds like a really inspiring story.

  18. I am so leery of books with dogs, because they always kill the dog, and then I cry.

  21. Wow, those all look good. Love the sound of the last one - dogs are great workout buddies! (I finished the latest draft of my new book - hopefully it will make your Can't Wait Wed list - once I have, oh, a title and a blurb and a cover!)

  23. Oh no, not a time out! Haha! These all sound like pretty great reads to me. The cover on the second one, with all of the dogs surrounding the couple, really made me smile

  24. Well, hi, there, Booker T! I'm sad that you were offended by that cat vampire book.... :( But do try to be more open-minded! Cats are lovable, too! (And don't forget horses, either, neeeeigh!!) You might want to make the acquaintance of a cat, you know. They can be buds with dogs, from what I've seen in some YouTube videos. Lol. Okay, I don't want to be too hard on you. HUGS!!!

You have certainly picked out some GREAT doggie books!

When I first saw the cover of "Saving Sadie", I burst out laughing; that dog has such a CUTE grin! Then I saw that the book is not really that funny. Instead, it sounds kinda sad, but heartwarming. I LOVE that there's actually hope for Sadie!

"Walking with Peety" also sounds very heartwarming, Booker! I LOVE that Eric's dramatic transformation began when he met a rescue dog. Awwww....I know, I'm a sentimental one, right? I KNOW this one will make me cry, but the tears will be happy ones!

As for "No Time to Explain", it SURE sounds SUPER CUTE!! What a nice, funny, romantic movie it would make!!

GREAT choices this week, Booker!! Now I hope you and your mom will be getting along better and put that cat episode behind you!! Say "hi" to her, and to you I say "WOOF, WOOF"!! (Of course you know what that means, lol.)

Oh, and please be sure to thank your mom for visiting my CWW post and leaving such a nice comment!! HUGS FOR ALL OF YOU!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

  25. So, the first one and the last one both look like books that would make me cry, even though I'm sure they're very good! The 2nd one has a dachshund on it, and it is romance, so it is going on my Goodreads TBR! Great picks this week! Thanks for stopping by my CWW on Lisa Loves Literature!
