Weekly Reads (01/12/18) - Angels, Demons and More Snow!

So, I headed back to work this week so it's been a week of basically trying to get back into routine.  I won't lie and will admit that I got used to sleeping in kind of late.  The week hasn't really been bad except with January 1st, Mr. Barb's insurance decided to cover different meds than what he takes so we had to go through the hassle of getting a different prescription from his doctor and that office isn't the most efficient so needless to say, I got a little hot under the collar.  All is well now but it's a racket I tell you!  And why should he have to change a med that has worked damn well for 2 years just because the insurance wants to help market some new one????

With football winding down, we did watch a few movies this week and honestly, they were all pretty decent.  First up was "Before I Wake" which Netflix added last Friday.  It was pretty good and the effects were gorgeous (as is this movie ad BTW).

Next up was "Marshall" which I also thought was well done and which also featured one of my favorite actors from "This is Us."

And finally we watched "Devil's Gate."  Once again, it starred an actor I really adore (Milo Ventimiglia).  I liked it and it was a decent movie but somehow it transitioned from devils and fallen angels to aliens and I'm not quite sure how it happened.  I felt like I was watching the X-Files with Fox and Mulder.

So we are bracing for more winter weather tonight. They are calling for some freezing rain and then 3-5 inches snow.  I have a 3-day weekend so I'm planning on holing up and getting some reading in.  I have 4 books on the stack I'd like to get to this week but I'm kidding myself I know - what can I say, winter is making me delusional.

Hope everyone out there has a wonderful weekend and if you are in the path of any kind of crazy weather - stay safe!

  1. These things are sent to drive us nuts I think, Barb! They just can't leave well alone. They messed around with my asthma medication which left me breathless for weeks and I had to demand it was switched back. Trying to save money no doubt. Gah! I've had a few disappointing reads this week so I think I need some nice zombies to get my mood back up! Have a great weekend!

  2. It's so disgusting that are health is at the whim of some for profit insurance company :( I am so jealous of your 3 day weekend. This was my first full week of work back after the holidays and I swear it feels like I've been working straight for a month. This week has dragged and my brain and body are so tired. I hope you all make through the storm unscathed and get to read some good books :)

    1. It's so hard to get back in the groove. It hit pretty hard Friday but at least I didn't have to go anywhere Saturday or Sunday.

  3. They did that with my mother's meds. It is a racket. But what can we do? I enjoyed Before I wake. Haven't seen Marshall but plan to and I want to watch The Devil's Gate. It's super cold here so I'll be staying snuggled uo with books and movies and some popcorn!

  4. Enjoy the 3 day weekend and hope the worst of the weather holds off! We hit upper 50's yesterday and then woke up this morning to more snow *sigh* I hate winter at this point. :)

Insurance companies- ugh. Why they run our health care is beyond me. Anyway- have a great weekend!

    1. Our weather is all over the place. 60's one day and 6 inches of snow 2 days later. We've really ticked off Mother Nature.

  5. Can I just say that I hate insurance?! My husband takes a strange med but has to go through mail order for insurance to pay. At times they just don't have it and he has to go without while the local pharmacy has it sitting there ready to go.

Stay safe with all of the snow headed your way. Lucky you with the 3 day weekend! I am sure you will be able to get to them all. No problem!

  11. I hope you guys did okay in the weather, Barb! Meanwhile I've been arguing with Audible about what a "release date" actually means with respect to The Chalk Man -- not at some point through the day, but at the beginning of the day -- especially if it's an audiobook. Yeah, I was waiting for this one on pins and needles!

    1. We survived. That's awful about Audible. I wish I could do audio books but I don't have much luck with them.

  13. ugh going back into a routine is very hard! Sorry to hear about the insurance hassle! Our health systems need so much work! Sorry about the the Steelers too!

    1. Doesn't it. Steelers still played good and ended up beating themselves. I have loved the Vikings since Randy Moss (from my alma mater) played for them so I can continue to cheer them on. I'm sure your Pats will make it to the big one :)

  14. Oh no... so sorry to hear about the insurance issues. I just got a new job, and my fiance and I have to look over the insurance options. I'm so nervous to make a switch and then have things change too drastically.

Ah! Chalk Man!! I'm halfway through it now and I am LOVING it! I hope you enjoy it as well!
