Weekly Reads/Stacking the Shelves/Sunday Post - You're Getting It All!

Stacking the Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves or TBR piles, may it be physical or virtual.  This means you can include books you buy in a physical store, online, books you borrow from the library or friends, review books, gifts and of course, ebooks! The original meme was started over at Tynga's Reviews. And it now has a new co-host where individuals can link up as well - Marlene from Reading Reality.  Clicking on the book (or title) should take you to the Goodreads page.  I'm also now linking up with the Sunday Post which is hosted by Kimberly@Caffeinated Book Reviewer

So this week you're getting one catch-all post.  Which will be okay, just grab you're favorite drink of choice.

So the weather has been much more seasonable, which is still winter, but at least it's not Arctic Winter.  The pups have been able to go on more walks. It's also been a fairly uneventful week at home which I'll take over utter chaos any time.  My team didn't make it to the Super Bowl, but the Patriots beat the Jaguars which we kind of wanted.  I had hoped the Vikings would make it but nope, not this year. I've liked them ever since Randy Moss from Marshall played for them (even if he did take plays off from time to time).

We managed to watch a few movies this weekend and I wouldn't recommend either one.  First was "The Snowman."  I had seen all the bad reviews but I thought the plot sounded good so it couldn't be THAT bad.  Well, I was wrong.  The only thing that got me through it was the new drink I made that night - a Harley Quinn.  Next Mr. Barb convinced me to watch "Bullet Head."  It was described as

"Three career criminals find themselves trapped in a warehouse with the law closing in and an even worse threat waiting inside - a nigh unstoppable killer dog."

The previews made it sound like the dog was like a science experiment or something.  NO.  It was a sad, beautiful abused dog who had been made to dog fight and the warehouse was home to a dog fighting ring, led by Antonio Banderas.  This movies SUCKED.  Several times I left the room.  I don't even know why we continued to watch it.  I just wanted to hold and cuddle the killer dog knowing I'd forgive him when he took my face off.  DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.  Or if you do, you've been warned.  I love Adrian Brody and I want to tweet bad things to him after this movie (in his defense he was just a thief and really loved dogs).

I hope to do some reading this weekend.  It's kind of been a slow week for it.  I'm currently reading "Into the Black Nowhere" which is really good and then want to pick up "Smoke City" and "Wolf Blood."  These all appear to be pretty intense reads so I may need some fluffy puppies afterwards.

Finally, I ran to the library farthest away from me this week   I don't visit it often but I did grab 2 books (imagine that).  I had to pick up "The Last Weekend" and "Elvis and the Tropical Double Trouble" for one of my "They Call it Puppy Love" reads.  BTW, don't forget to sign up for the challenge if you are interested.  Here is the link.  I also need to mention my main library has 3 holds for me to pick up so look for more library books next week.

So how was your week and what did you add to your shelves???

Make sure to stop by tomorrow to check out a brand new feature!!!!

  1. I've never heard of either of those movies. Sorry they weren't good. At least the drink made the one bearable lol. I hope you enjoy Smoke City! It's not intense, don't worry. It's actually rather quirky and offbeat :-)

    1. Yea, and we had another horrible movie this weekend - the new Blade Runner. I made another new drink and didn't like it as well - Shark Attack (I was missing the gummy sharks).

  2. Oh Dear God, Bullethead sounds awful! What the hell happened to those guys' careers?

    1. I know. It had such good actors although I have been questioning some of Banderas' film choices lately.

  4. What a pity about Bullet Head...such a good cast. The clips I saw of The Snowman looked a bit weird. I'll give both a miss. Ooh, a new feature tomorrow sounds interesting...will watch out for that!

    1. Yes, I missed some of the plot because I left the room and didn't even care. I told my husband he owed me a Disney film for this one. However, in his defense, he was emotionally upset too.

  6. I am bummed about Snowman cause I thought it looked like it would be a good one. :( I will take your advice on the second one and not watch it. Can't wait for you to watch Wolf Blood so you can tell me if it's good and I should read it now...lol. :)

  8. So I didn't care for The Snowman movie either. I read the book 1st thankfully or I honestly don't think that I would have had a clue with what was going on. The book is way better if you haven't read it yet but very dark! I just went to the library today too and brought home WAY too many books. It sounds like you have lots of great reading ahead of you. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Into The Black Nowhere!

    1. I haven't read the book but do want to start the Nesbo series sometime. It's always hard to show restraint at the library huh? I don't think many people liked The Snowman.

  9. I am glad the winter is going good now at least. I haven't heard about both the movies, but I am sorry they were bad. But you made a fantastic drink I guess :)
I hope you enjoy all of your book this week. :)

  11. I already know that I'm going to watch The Snowman. I know it's going to be bad...but I just still want to see it. Thanks for the warning on Bullet Head, though, I'll definitely skip that one. Happy reading!

  13. I've never heard of The Snowman and it looks like that's a good thing. I've learned from a very bad experience with a movie - cringe-worthy really - to always check reviews.
Smoke City looks really cool. Enjoy your books!

    1. I check reviews but I guess I'm not the average watcher because sometimes when I see bad reviews, I still end up liking the movie. That backfired on The Snowman.

  14. Those movies sound horrible. I will be skipping those for sure. I hope you end up liking Into the Black Nowhere as much as I did. Have a great week!

  15. I've never even heard of Bullethead. And sounds like a very poorly made/marketed film on the company's part, even from the poster, I wouldn't have gotten any of that.

    1. Yes, I think they knew if they were honest about what it was about, they would have fewer people into it.

  16. Oh my god, that poor puppy! We think one of our pups was used as a bait dog. He had scars everywhere and when he got into fights with the farm dog (our landlord's dog), he would just roll over and let the dog basically choke him. It was crazy. I've never seen anything like it! We've since moved and he has a huge yard to run around in! He still has those scars but he's the most loving pup! Definitely not going to watch that movie.

Can't wait for the challenge to start. I have so many cozy mysteries ready for this! Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank heavens your pup now has a wonderful home. I hate to see animals abused and your story just gives me hope that there are good people out there. Hope you have fun with the cozies and give your pup a hug for me!

  19. I don't do dog movies, I honestly can't watch any movies with animals in it lol. Only cute Disney ones that make me cry.

Have a great week, Barb! Happy Reading! :)

  21. Wow, The Snowman is really that bad, huh? I've been tempted to watch it even with the reviews because how bad can it be? I guess it can be that bad!

I'm planning to sign up for puppy love this week! :)

  22. Urg! I hate it when films are that bad - give me a daft sharknado movie any day - at least it isn't taking itself serious! Have a great week, Barb:)

    1. I bet you are doing dog horror aren't you? Keeping fingers crossed. I know, the cast is good and that's one of the reasons I thought I would like it so much more. Even a wonderful cast can't overshadow an abused pup.

  26. I'm definitely not watching either movie. I don't watching movies that deal with animal abuse of any kind. On a happier note, I hope you enjoy all your books!

  29. I am glad the dogs are able to walk more. You were hit with such cold and I'm sure they didn't like having to be cooped up so much. Sorry the movies were duds. I can't say I've heard of them, but I likely won't watch them now either. I hope you are having a great week, Barb!
