Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: Everyone says the Elders family are nothing but cheats, thieves, and convicts—a fact nineteen-year old Jamie Elders has been trying desperately to escape. She may have the natural talent of a poker savant, but her dreams of going pro and getting the hell out of the tiny town of Parsons, New York are going nowhere fast. Especially once she lands in a huge pile of debt to her uncle Loyal.
At Loyal’s beck and call until her debt is repaid, Jamie can’t easily walk away—not with her younger brother Toby left at his mercy. So when Loyal demands Jamie’s help cleaning up a mess late one night, she has no choice but to agree. But disposing of a dead man and covering up his connection to the town’s most powerful judge goes beyond family duty. When it comes out that the victim was a beloved athlete and Loyal pins the murder on Toby, only Jamie can save him. But with a dogged detective on her trail and her own future at stake, she’ll have to decide: embrace her inner criminal, or defy it—and face the consequences.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: I will admit that this book landed on the wishlist because of the cover and I'm drawn to winter books - even though I'm sick of winter. However, it stays on my wishlist because I think it sounds pretty good.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
It's a definitely creepy cover, but the blurb has hooked me big time! Small town -- secrets and lies -- goodness, I think!
ReplyDeleteI like small town books even though I hated growing up in one.
DeleteIt's a good creepy winter cover! It just needs a wolf...

ReplyDeleteI think so too!

ReplyDeleteYea, I know if it wasn't for the cover, it probably wouldn't have gotten a second look.
DeleteI do like that cover, but the story sounds pretty good too. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey tend to work well together, that's for sure.
DeleteI was considering this one the other day when I firs stumbled upon it. I think it was being compared to Winter's Bone? That's the sure fire way to get me. lol
ReplyDeleteI never read Winter's Bone but am pretty sure I saw the movie. Didn't it star Jennifer Lawrence?
DeleteOoh this sounds REALLY good. I love the idea of having to keep secrets that conflict with solving a crime. I like books set in winter too, it can add atmosphere, and that cover does rock.
ReplyDeleteI actually kind of thought it might be one you would like when I posted it.

I enjoy seeing your picks each week too!
DeletePoker, dead bodies, and being framed for murder. Sounds like it will be a wild ride.
ReplyDeleteYea, the poker doesn't sound too bad but dead bodies - leave me out of that huh?
DeleteThis is another good find! And I know what you mean about books set in winter. I'm drawn to them too, especially horror or mystery thrillers.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Yes, they have to be horror or thriller/mysteries. I'm not much on contemporaries but when I do read them, I prefer them to be summer settings, not snow!
DeleteThis one is completely new to me but it sounds great! I hope you enjoy it once you get the chance to read it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole.
DeleteI'm like you...I'm sick of winter in real life, but I do like stories about winter time and I love the covers.
ReplyDeleteI think lots of bookworms feel that way.
DeleteI love the cover too. It does sound like a great winter read too. Even though I'm completely over winter, I could still see myself curling up with this read in front of a nice fire.
ReplyDeleteLots of people are completely over winter this year.
DeleteIt definitely has a great cover! Good pick! Thanks for stopping by my CWW post earlier on Lisa Loves Literature.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting the farm too Lisa.
DeleteThat is a lovely cover and I can see why it called to you! I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI’m so sick of winter also, but this does sound good!!
ReplyDeleteThe cover is pretty great so I can see how it would put it on anyones radar!
ReplyDeleteThat cover draws me in, too, especially since I've never seen snow up close and personal! Lol. As for the plot, it's not my usual type of read, but I do like how fiercely protective Jamie is of her younger brother Toby. The mystery is actually intriguing, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Thanks as well for commenting on my CWW post!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE BOYS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
Ohh great pick Barb, this is actually the first time I hear about this book. And it looks and sounds absolutely fantastic and right up my alley. Thank you so much for stopping by my blog.
