Can't Wait Wednesday (144)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

FROM GOODREADS:  Everyone says the Elders family are nothing but cheats, thieves, and convicts—a fact nineteen-year old Jamie Elders has been trying desperately to escape. She may have the natural talent of a poker savant, but her dreams of going pro and getting the hell out of the tiny town of Parsons, New York are going nowhere fast. Especially once she lands in a huge pile of debt to her uncle Loyal.

At Loyal’s beck and call until her debt is repaid, Jamie can’t easily walk away—not with her younger brother Toby left at his mercy. So when Loyal demands Jamie’s help cleaning up a mess late one night, she has no choice but to agree. But disposing of a dead man and covering up his connection to the town’s most powerful judge goes beyond family duty. When it comes out that the victim was a beloved athlete and Loyal pins the murder on Toby, only Jamie can save him. But with a dogged detective on her trail and her own future at stake, she’ll have to decide: embrace her inner criminal, or defy it—and face the consequences.

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  I will admit that this book landed on the wishlist because of the cover and I'm drawn to winter books - even though I'm sick of winter.  However, it stays on my wishlist because I think it sounds pretty good.

WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

  1. It's a definitely creepy cover, but the blurb has hooked me big time! Small town -- secrets and lies -- goodness, I think!

  8. Ooh this sounds REALLY good. I love the idea of having to keep secrets that conflict with solving a crime. I like books set in winter too, it can add atmosphere, and that cover does rock.

    1. Yes, they have to be horror or thriller/mysteries. I'm not much on contemporaries but when I do read them, I prefer them to be summer settings, not snow!

  23. That cover draws me in, too, especially since I've never seen snow up close and personal! Lol. As for the plot, it's not my usual type of read, but I do like how fiercely protective Jamie is of her younger brother Toby. The mystery is actually intriguing, too!

Thanks for sharing! Thanks as well for commenting on my CWW post!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE BOYS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
