Blog All About It is a challenge being hosted by Anna@Herding Cats and Burning Soup. Each month we are given a prompt and have free reign regarding what we chose to blog about pertaining to that prompt. February's prompt is........................
So for most of my life, the color red has played a prominent role. Now this was never really planned and I have to admit, red isn't even my favorite color but for some reason, it's always been around.
For 12 years, my school mascot was a red devil. Now I always thought it was kind of redundant to be called the RED Devils because aren't devils supposed to be red. However, a neighboring town was called the Blue Devils so I guess clarification was needed.
Growing up I was always obsessed with painting my nails. And I remember for some reason my Dad HATED red nail polish. He said it "sent the wrong message." So yep, you guessed it, every chance I got I was buying various red nail polishes.
Then when I got older and met the man of my dreams - aka Mr. Barb, we decided to have a small wedding yet still needed some kind of color scheme. I was never into pastels and what I then called "girly-colors" so we ended up with a red, black and white theme - for no real reason at all. An no, this isn't my ring, but I do love it and would love to have one some day.
After getting married, we soon needed some newer transportation and our first new car together, which was used, was a little red Sundance. I LOVED that car.
And then a several years later, our first NEW car together was a red Sunfire. I loved that car even more but sadly we had to get rid of it after 13 glorious years. It was replaced by a "dog friendly" Kia Sportage which believe it or not, IS NOT red.
And those who are aware of my current neighbor situation, knows that the past few weeks, I've been "seeing red" quite a bit.
So there you have it, the history of my unintentional love affair with the color red!
What is your favourite colour? Bc I believe red has made a strong case in your life to take that spot! (I hope the neighbour situation improves Barb, it sounds awful!)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is actually purple, but you are right, red has made a great argument.
DeleteThis was such an enjoyable post. I used to do what my parents did not like too, especially when they didn't have convincing arguments. I painted my nails read from middle school till Uni. That ring is really pretty indeed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andreea, it was fun to write once I got going.
DeleteBlue is my colour for the most part. Our current car is blue and it's a colour I always liked. My football team colour's are black and white though!
ReplyDeleteI think blue cars are really pretty. Especially if they are vibrant blues.
DeleteRed seems to be a part of my life as well event thought it is not my favorite color. I live in the college town where I went to college and met my husband and now where my son attends. Their colors are Red and Gold. My kids went to high school where the colors are Red and Black so needless to say I wear a lot of red!
ReplyDeleteI bet you do. Funny how our town colors seem to influence our clothing choices.
DeleteRed isn't my favorite color, either, but we seem to have a lot in common when it comes to that color! I love red nail polish, our main wedding color was red (fall wedding), and my first car was also red!
ReplyDeleteSeems there is a lot of red around huh?
DeleteHa ha love this post! I've actually never thought about colors that repeatedly show up in my life, but it's an interesting idea. I'm drawn to blues and greens, but definitely not red. I look terrible in red and I don't think I own any red clothes!
ReplyDeleteI'm blond so I look okay in red. I guess I like it more than I actually thought after looking back at this post. I'm more drawn to warm colors vs cool ones but I do love my purple!
DeleteSounds like Red was right up your alley. Our wedding was light blue and white theme, but that's because when I went to the bridal shop with my bridesmaids, I told them to pick whichever dress fit their style and made them comfortable, and the one they chose was only in powder blue. LoL I wasn't overly concerned with colors or themes (obviously). I just wanted to get married. :D
ReplyDeleteGetting married is the best part anyway right? We had a very low-key wedding and my dress was all lace and kind of Stevie Nicks-ish. I know no other way to explain it. So it worked for us.
DeleteI'd love to have that ring as well! And I hope you're not seeing red for too much longer :(
ReplyDeleteMe either. The more I look at that ring, the more tempting it is. It's not THAT expensive, but much more that I usually pay for jewelry. I think about $150.00
DeleteWhat a great idea. Black has got to be my favourite colour but after reading this red could be the new black.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I love black too.
DeleteOhh, I love that ring! Sorry about your neighbor situation! Hopefully things get better soon.
ReplyDeleteDo You Dog-ear?
Thanks. I hope so too! It's on on-line jeweler and they have some really cool products.
DeleteBlack is one of my favorite colors and red is such a good contrast for it. I'm not sure quite what's going on with your neighbors, but they need to get over it. Sorry it's been going this long, Barb.
ReplyDeleteThey DO need to get over it. I can overlook some things but not my walls vibrating every time I get home from work and trash all over the yard.
DeleteNeat post! I love how you did this, looking at all the ways red has played a role in your life. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Greg. I'm having fun with this one.
DeleteI am not really a fan of jewelery but I LOVE that ring. I am partial to red cars myself. I have had 2 red mustangs :) Fun post!
ReplyDeleteRed mustangs - AWESOME!
DeleteThat is a lovely ring. And how funny on your red vs blue devils. lol
ReplyDeleteStrange huh? Who ever saw a blue devil?
DeleteA black, white, and red wedding sounds like my dream wedding!!! Red IS my fave color!
ReplyDeleteThen it sounds perfect for you!
Deleteyup I always pictured you as a blood red girl ;)
ReplyDeleteNever imagined you into pastels :) a red, black and white wedding is what I would imagine you had :) lucky Mr. Barb :) haha my dad was against red polish too! Did you use that red nail polish for the wedding. I hope you did :)
Of course I did - a deep red metallic!
DeleteThis was great, my favorite color is red :)
ReplyDeleteWow! What an awesome prompt! I'll have to think more about the color red. I'm a sucker for red nail polish. In our home, we have a lot of dark red scattered around (curtains, storage cubes, placemats, table runner, area rugs). :-D
ReplyDeleteI do love red nail polish! Great post!
ReplyDeleteWhen you said that about the red and blue devils, I also thought of the Arizona Sun Devils, too. Apparently, there are a lot of devils out there. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey, our first car together was a red Ford escort and my favorite has been our red Ford Explorer though sadly, it rusted out. :(
Oh man, bummer about the neighbor troubles.
That's an awesome love story... And a great post.

So much red! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove that shade of red nail polish in December. Hope the situation with the neighbor has cooled.
ReplyDeleteI love that you went with red, black, white theme. I had a red and white wedding. However, those colors are so dynamic.
