This week's topic is Books I'm No Longer Interested in Reading. Now I'm pretty much a mood reader, so it might be possible that 6 months from now, I will change my mind on a few of these. But hey, that's the beauty of reading for enjoyment - I can do what I want!
Any of the remaining Anita Blake books. I checked Goodreads and I made it through book #11. Man, I don't recall making it that far. But I've lost interest and honestly, this series should have probably ended years ago.
I actually featured this as a Can't Wait Wednesday book not too long ago. However, since then, I've read a review and apparently there is quite a bit of animal abuse in here. Therefore, it's not for me and I'm glad I never bought it.
I tried reading this and just couldn't get into it. Maybe some day I'll pick it up but for now, it's not even on my radar.
I've kind of lost interest. But don't tell Cass - you know, birds and all.
I saw the movie and I'm okay with leaving it at that.
I'm not even sure why I have this on a wishlist. I'm not a huge contemporary reader and nothing stands out to me when I reread the synopsis.
Read Partials in 2012? That was some time ago. I don't miss it so this is another book I will probably never pick up even thought I think it's on my Kindle somewhere.
I'm one of the few who hated The 5th Wave. There is no way I'll read this one.
Just saw the movie and while I'm sure the book is probably better (aren't they usually?) I think I'll just skip it. While the movie was okay, I found the MC annoying.
Hated the movie and STILL bought the book when I saw it used. What was I thinking?
So, can you convince me to give any of these books a go? The Ritual might come the closest just because I love horror and have heard good things about the author. And don't even TRY to convince me to give The 5th Wave another chance!
You hated The Fifth Wave?! That really surprises me! I absolutely loved it, but that's made me too nervous to reread it so I haven't been able to read the other two books in the series yet.
ReplyDeleteI recently unhauled The Last Werewolf because I've also completely lost interest in it, but I'm hanging on to The Girl on the Train - I want to read it before I see the movie, and somehow I've managed to avoid spoilers despite the fact that it's been out for years!
Yea I was part of a small minority with The 5th Wave. After today, I'm seeing more people whose opinions I trust saying The Last Werewolf didn't do much for them so I'm glad that I'm not giving it much future consideration.
DeleteAll the Birds is on my tbr, but it's one of those I haven't gotten to yet and haven't really been in a rush to read. But I haven't quite crossed it off yet! I'll let you know whether it's worth it once I do read it ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'll wait for your opinion! But take your time because I'm in no hurry.
DeleteI should have added Gone Girl and Girl on the Train to my own list -- I can't stand them at all. I used to read Hamilton's Blake series too, but I can't remember where I stopped with that. But you did remind me too that Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series is another than has gone on for too long like this one.
ReplyDeleteGone Girl - HATED IT! I actually liked The Dresden files but then I've only read through book #4. I wish the series had taken off for more than 1 season because I think it had potential.
DeleteI couldn't get into The Last Werewolf either. I thought the Girl on the Train was a dreadful book and I wanted to kill the obnoxious MC! I've got no intention of watching the film! Anita Blake, enough said. The more the books go on the more animal lovers she has and it's the same fight with Richard in every darn book. I DNFed Partials.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to kill the MC in the TGOAT movie so I can't imagine muddling through the book. I knew you would TOTALLY understand my Anita Blake comment!
DeleteI didn't understand all the hype around The Girl On the Train. I haven't seen the movie but I did read the book. I didn't hate it but I didn't think it was amazing or anything. Don't worry, you aren't missing much.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I skipped it. I thought the movie was pretty horrible too and usually I would say, the book has to be better, but I don't care enough to try and I've heard enough that I honestly don't think it is!
DeleteI've come across some books I no longer want to read. Can't even remember why I did in the first place. I now need to clear those off my shelf.
ReplyDeleteYes, getting them off the shelves is a whole other ball game!
DeleteI've actually read two books on this list and loved them, The Last Werewolf and All the Birds. Werewolf I read way before I started blogging so who knows if I'd like it now. And All the Birds is crazy and NOT for everyone, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those the loved the 5th wave the book but hated the movie :) haha I hated The Girl on the Train the movie too so NO WAY the book ;) How was the Ritual the movie??
ReplyDeleteA few weeks back I was trying to remember the few books we disagreed on it and one of them is The 5th Wave. I hated TGOAT movie too. Ritual was a decent book. I didn't really care for the MC and it was kind of scary but not really. I figure the book would be better because aren't they always. It was a decent watch especially since we pay for Netflix anyway.
DeleteI have fallen asleep THREE times trying to watch The Ritual! UGH I'm hopeless. Overworked soccer mom. My kids late practices are killing my reading and TV watching LOL
Delete5th wave was just okay for me but I have zero intention of picking up the subsequent books. I think watching the movie completely dashed those hopes. lol I picked up All the Birds in the Sky on audible so I plan on reading that... someday.
ReplyDeleteHaha. I actually liked the movie better than the book. But I see there's been no talk of continuing the movie franchise.
DeleteThe Girl on a Train is on mine to because I didn't like The Woman in the Window and everyone is if you like TGOAT you will love this one so it's safe to say I probably won't. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know just realized TGOAT is basically "The GOAT." That says it all!
DeleteFunnily enough, I think I have all, or nearly all of these on my TBR. Haven't read any though, so I can't talk you into them! All the Birds in the Sky may be one I actually get to.
ReplyDeleteI'm anxious to hear your thoughts then!
DeleteA Partials book made my list this week too! I read the first two, but never did get around to reading book three...
ReplyDeleteHere are my Top Ten!
I only made it through the first one. All I can remember was they had all the recycled ipods/m3p players they would recycle so they could listen to music.
DeleteI didn't enjoy the Last Werewolf at all - well, that's a bit mean, there were some elements that were okay but it just didn't work out for me.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I don't actually own it. I checked it out from the library twice and started it but couldn't get into it. It needs to come off my Goodreads wishlist.
DeleteThe girl on the train was sooo annoying!! It deserves to be DNF'ed.
ReplyDeleteBtw I really love that little bar on top that you have tracking ur challenges, may I ask you how u made it? It'll be super helpful for me since I'm doing like 8 or 9 I think...
Then I'm saving myself. Here's a link where I figured out how to do it was a widget. I have to go in each month and update my figures (I could do them as I read them but too much of a hassle) but once you get it on there, it's easy to update.

I think I made through #10 or so of Anita Blake. Those were fun at that time, but no interested in continuing. The Girl on the Train was one that I read and was irritated with the main character's self-destructiveness. I like it better by the end, but I decided to not see the movie. Think that was a good decision.
ReplyDeleteYes, from someone who saw the movie, I'd say it was a VERY good decision.
DeleteThe Girl on the Train didn't do much for me... and All the Birds in the Sky I was curious about, but not enough to actually read it.
ReplyDeleteMe either.
DeleteHave to admit the Anita Blake books and the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter would be on my list. I don't know enough about the other books really to encourage or discourage you reading them. You probably have tons more on your TBR that are more interesting to you at the moment. =0)
ReplyDeleteYep, never a shortage of books on the TBR.
DeleteI haven't read any of these... but I used to be obsessed with Laurell K. Hamilton's books. Haven't read too many of them. Maybe I'll read more someday.
ReplyDeleteI just don't know if I will ever continue that series. Anita REALLY started to bother me!
DeleteWhile I didn't hate The 5th Wave, I did kind of hate The Infinite Sea, so I don't think it's a bad idea to skip that one.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason I'm glad I didn't continue then!
DeleteLike you I'm a mood reader. All the Birds in the Sky is still on my shelf, I still would like to read it eventually, hopefully one day. The Girl on the Train movie was horrible, I didn't even finish watching it. The book was a quick read and kept me interested, but it's not one that I would ever read again.
ReplyDeleteI haven't COMPLETELY ruled it out and if I see some more reviews of All the Birds in the Sky, I may decide to change its status one day.
DeleteI have read a lot further in the Anita Blake series. I am not sure if I will get caught up or not. I do like some things about the series. I haven't read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter but I did read The Last American Vampire by the same author that had Lincoln as a character...and I actually really enjoyed it so I do want to read the Abe Lincoln book. I haven't read any of the others that made your list.
ReplyDeleteI think the early Anita books were really good. And I'm not a prude, so the sex alone didn't bother me, it was just when she got out of control and couldn't make any decisions.
DeleteI wasn't big on The Girl on the Train. I read the first book in The Fifth Wave series and purchased the second but have yet to read it. Maybe some day since I did enjoy the first book.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd. I've seen lots of people rave about GOAT, but then so many people here have commented they didn't like it. Hope you enjoy the rest of The 5th Wave series.
DeleteLOL, you "beat" me by two books when it comes to Anita Blake, I stopped at 9 and just couldn't do it anymore! All the Birds in the Sky and The Infinite Sea are also books that have been on my TBR forever, and it's looking highly unlikely that I'll get to either anytime soon...if ever.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
Woe, not really something I am proud to "beat" anybody with :)
DeleteI need to read the last 5th wave book myself (only I read them more recently) and come to think of it I have at least one of the Partials books on my shelf and I have never read it.
ReplyDeletePartials wasn't horrible, I just have no desire to continue.
DeleteI didn't just walk away from the Anita Blake series, I ran! I actually stayed away from any urban romance type books for years because that series made me wary. I did read and really like Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter- we read it for book club- but we all HATED the movie. It's a terrible adaptation. I didn't like The 5th Wave, which sucks because I bought it and the 2nd book as a package deal but I have no interest in ever continuing the story. Here's to all the good books that await us!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should read the book then because I didn't think the movie was that bad. Another 5th Wave non-fan.
DeleteI agree so much about the Anita Blake series! Idk how, but I made it through book #21 and I wish I had stopped way before that. I wish she would have ended the series while it was still good!
ReplyDeleteWow, you made it FAR!
DeleteUgh, I have so many of those in my pile. I liked The Girl on the Train but if you saw the movie and didn't like it there's no point reading the book. Gah, that Anita Blake series still makes me so sad. It started out so promising and turned into a boring porno.
ReplyDeleteI know. RIP Anita.
DeleteI have a copy of Things I'm Seeing Without You from BEA, so I may read it. I love contemporaries though. I have not seen the film, but I really liked The Girl on the Train, which surprised me, because there are zero likable characters in that book.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge contemporary fan so I'm sure that's my problem with it.
DeleteI definitely can't convince you with Girl On The Train haha I actually thought the movie was a bit BETTER than the book. It's one of my top most disliked books. :( Good luck!
ReplyDeleteNow there's ANOTHER argument toward not reading GOAT.
DeleteNoope! lol The only ones I read at the Anita Blake ones. I enjoy them but there have been some big duds the last half of the series. The last couple, though, have been good and you can see them getting back some of the original Blake vibes which is nice.
