Can't Wait Wednesday (231)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

So the public has spoken - Cass is now a full-time contributor to Can't Wait Wednesday.  That means each week you'll see two books here. Of course Cass is already lobbying for an increase in salary (at least he works for treats - and bandanas).

FROM GOODREADS:  A collection of four stories:
"Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”
“The Life of Chuck”
“Rat”
“If It Bleeds”

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  So there isn't much here but it's a new King book and it's the spooky month and I am excited for it.  It's been billed as Holly Gibney #2 and I was a tad upset we weren't getting a while book about her.  Unless I guess each story involves her.  With him, who knows.  A lot of peope don't like this cover but it really doesn't bother me.

CASSIUS'S PICK:

FROM GOODREADS:  An innkeeper who reads minds. An ornery detective. And a trail of bodies. Cider Cove is the premiere destination for murder.

My name is Bizzy Baker, and I can read minds—not every mind, not every time but most of the time and believe me when I say it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

A doggie fashion show is afoot at the local shelter and hopefully each cute pooch will find a home to call their own. I’ve been enlisted to help out with the endeavor and I’m more than happy to do it. But trouble seems to follow me wherever I go and that body I stumbled upon quickly complicates everything. Not to mention a certain someone is determined to out my ability to read minds—and this time, they just might succeed.

Bizzy Baker runs the Country Cottage Inn, has the ability to pry into the darkest recesses of both the human and animal mind, and has just stumbled upon a body. With the help of her kitten, Fish, a mutt named Sherlock Bones and an ornery yet dangerously good looking homicide detective, Bizzy is determined to find the killer.

The Country Cottage Inn is known for its hospitality. Leaving can be murder.

WHY CASS CAN'T WAIT: So Mom's all in Halloween mode but this week I'm focusing on Christmas.  I've been good all year and have been frantically working on my list. I've seen Mother carrying in some bags and hiding them so I know Santa is hard at work.  Anyway, this sounds really fun and it's supposed to be humorous. The dog on the cover kind of reminds me of Pedro down the street who comes and barks at me and then runs off though.

Speaking of, I don't think his name is Pedro.  Mom calls him something different each time she sees him.  He must have an identity crisis.

Hey Mom, you better not be buying me that dog's outfit!!!!!

SO WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

  1. I'm pretty excited for If It Bleeds as well, since it's being placed in the same sequence as The Outsider and I'm curious to read more about Holly too. Yeah, who knows where this will go with Stephen King at the helm, but I'll definitely be watching for this one :D

  2. Spooky Booky month is a bit of a challenge at the moment as I'm struggling to get fully into the swing of reading at the moment. I still hope to get some great horror books read and review a few too! Cass, you picked a really cute cover but don't let your mum dress you up like that!!!

    1. That's okay, I'm finding myself reading non-scary books in October - what is the world coming too. And Cass has a Viking picture to share on my weekend post. I think I humiliated him enough.

    1. Yea, I'll never really complain about a King book. Well, except Under the Dome. I complain about that ending all the time.

  5. Okay, who is Holly Gibney? What King book did I miss and need to read? I'm behind on his books. But I do love his short stories! Great picks this week.

    1. Holly is a character that appeared in the Bill Hodges trilogy. Which amazingly I never read. She then showed up in The Outsider and I watched the first season of Mr. Mercedes on TV and I fell for her quirky character so much. The trilogy is on my 2020 list so I hope to knock it out of the way before this one comes out.

  7. I don't mind the If It Bleeds cover, but I do think it could be better. I love the black cat aspect, but it could have been more artfully done. 📚

The covers of Cass's books are always so cute! Thanks for giving me a smile Cass! 🐾✨

  10. A new Stephen King? Wow! This one sounds like it is a book that I can read in short bits that will probably terrify me, but I could handle it. ;)

  16. I feel like I should read more SK - that being said I don't tend to read short story collections because I very rarely complete them - I love the cover for If it Bleeds though.

    1. I do better with novella length tales, which I think these are. I like collecting short story collections - much more than reading them I think.

    1. Many say it looks like Church from Pet Semetary, so maybe it is a creepy cat.
