What's Happening (03-28-20)...

So I'm doing things a tad bit differently this year and will be combining all of my regular weekend posts.  This will enable me to add more content on Fridays and it is just starting to make more sense.  I'll still be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga's Reviews and Sunday Post at Caffeinated Reviewer.  Both blogs are awesome so make sure you check them out.

So I hope everyone is out there staying safe.  It sure is a crazy world right now.  Things here in WV are maintaining.  We've got a stay-in-place order which was activated Wednesday although I think some people are still ignoring it.  I got laid-off on Thursday but it could be worse, my boss went ahead and paid us through Friday, and we'll be able to sign up for unemployment next week.  And since I work for a not-for-profit agency, I know as soon as the stay-in-place is lifted, we'll be back to work.

So am I the only one who is freaking out every time I sneeze, cough or have a muscle ache?  I swear if I could worry myself into having COVID-19, I'd have it by now I'm sure.  I've always been a worrywart and this is proving that!

So on to more fun topics.  I've been making an effort to do some tasks each day to keep on a routine and plus take advantage of my extra time.  I have been listening to some new music and am really enjoying the new albums by The Weeknd, Mandy Moore and Adam Lambert.  All three have been on heavy rotation.  We are still watching Shameless and also watched "The Invisible Man."  My recommendation for that one is don't bother.  It was fairly bad although Elizabeth Moss did a wonderful job playing an abused and terrified wife.  And there was a cute Doberman - who lived.  We also watched "The Grudge" - the new one. Again, I was not impressed.

As usual, I plan on doing some reading this weekend.  Here's what's up on the pile:

It's been a good week for collecting books.  Netgalley has been killing it on approvals and of course, there have been some great sales going on.  I have three pre-orders I'd like to highlight because I think they're awesome (also, these are on Kindle, as I rarely pre-order full price books). Playing Possum was $3.99 but the rest were under $1.99.  They all release in the next 2 weeks too.

And finally, I'll share some review books.

Stay safe my friends!

  2. I'm still waiting for my approval of The Preserve, congrats on getting that! Also, I'll have to go searching for The Book of Sam. Oh, and I just watched the first episode of Riverdale yesterday, and wow it's so good! I'm going to watch more today. Stay safe, Barb!

    1. I'm sure you'll get a copy. Riverdale gets pretty weird as it goes on but it's a great distraction.

  3. some great looking books and it sounds like you are making good use of your free time. i am retired, so it's pretty much the same for me, other than having mr wonderful around 24/7. i am surprised how well things are going. he is a very active person and even though he's not leaving the house, he's finding plenty to keep himself busy

  4. My husband is normally the calm one in our house, but he is kind of low-key freaking out. He doesn't want to leave the house and is constantly asking me if he has a fever!

    1. Seriously, it's easy to make yourself sick right now. I can hardly watch the news because I get anxiety.

  5. I'm trying to get back to a routine of some sort but I am still fighting lethargy. I also worry about every ache. I am interested in The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. I hope you have a restful time at home and stay safe.

  7. :D I freak out every time I cough, too. And sometimes I think I'm feeling short of breath, only to realize I haven't been breathing. Stress does that to me. I have to remind myself to take a deep breath, and then exhale. Have a good weekend!

    1. I've been reminding myself to do deep breathing several times a day. They say it might help and hey, it can't hurt.

  8. The anxiety is real. I pulled a muscle the other day and was afraid I had Covid since my cousin's husband had it and had the body pains- I was like oh no is it coming on? Then it went away. :) But yeah...

The Southern Book Club looks great! And I feel like I need some scarier reads because, after all, nothing like a little terror to distract me from real life right?

Ha ha be well and have a good weekend. and week ahead.

    1. Yes, I need unrealistic fun horror - I've had enough of the real life kind.

  9. I'm worrying myself sick at the moment over every minor temperature rise and cough. I know it's my depression that causes this but I'm sort of making myself ill with it and it's just week one of the lockdown! So you aren't the only one.

I really want that Grady Hendrix book! I'll be grabbing it as soon as I can! Mind you I did pretty well on grabbing horror books this week and taking advantage of price reductions!

    1. I don't necessarily suffer from depression but man, I can feel some bouts coming on. I think the pups help a lot. I've been taking advantage of some price drops as well.

  10. I'm with you on the cough thing. I am the exact opposite of a hypochondriac, but every time I cough... good grief! Ha ha. 😜

Thank goodness you know you'll be hired back. Enjoy your time at home. I'm sure the doggos are extra happy having you home all day. 🐾✨

Are there any covid cases at the prison? 😷

Have a wonderful new week! 🌞

    1. So far none in the prison but I fear it's a matter of time. At that point, we'll have to figure out what to do. I don't want my husband exposed.

  11. Our daughter moved back n with us when she lot her job and she's allergic to our dog. so she's doing a lot of coughing and sneezing and it makes me nervous everytime. Plus she has asthma so I'm more worried about her than myself if she gets this virus.

    1. I'm so sorry to hear about the asthma stuff. My husband has it but luckily it's not too severe.

  12. I'm sorry to hear about the lay off. Hopefully the unemployment will be an easy process. I suffer from allergies so YES everytime something changes healthwise I get so paranoid. Your weekend reading looks really great.

    1. It's not. I filed easily enough but it's so backed up no one is responding. I think I broke the redial on our phone.

  13. I'm so sorry to hear that you were let go, Barb -- even though you anticipate being hired again after everything dies down. It's such a tough time -- understatement of the year, already. (and, Hearing Day Homicide just made me crack up so much!

    1. Isn't it cute. I keep telling myself at least I can read more. So far, I'm doing okay in that sense but trying not to get sucked into TV too much.

  14. So sorry about the job situation. At least it seems that your job will still be there hopefully when we come out the other end. I feel like I'm living in one of my books at the moment.

    1. I know. Once the world gets a hold on this thing can you imagine the movies and books that will come out? I honestly hope not because living it was bad enough.

  15. I am so sorry that you have been laid off. At least you know that you have a job to go back to when this is over. My job has really dried up this week and I do wonder the future holds right now. Stay safe and enjoy all of your new books!
