So basically I rarely DNF a book. I am trying to do better because why make myself miserable reading something I'm not enjoying. So instead of books I DNF'ed, I'm sharing ones I wish I HAD actually not finished!
I know some people loved this one but all I could come up with is WTF????
I gave this 3/5 on 2015 but the more time that passes, the more I dislike it.
I'll NEVER like Alice in Wonderland and the only thing that saved this for me is the artwork.
Why did I do this to myself???
I don't even remember reading this so I think I should have stopped.
One of my few 1 star reads. Uggghh!
Is anyone really surprised?
I know I'm in the minority on this one.
No surprise here either!
Who would have thought huh? If it hadn't been a buddy read with Stormi, I'd had ditched this one for sure.
So I know some of you love these books. They just didn't work for me. I can't wait to see everyone's lists this week!
I never read Night Vale but I did try the podcast. And Survive the Night! Wow that was a trip. I had mixed feelings at the time- i kinda liked it but kinda didn't???
ReplyDeleteI can totally see how you felt that way Greg. I didn't really hate it but I didn't like it either.
DeleteLooking back, there are a ton of books I probably should have DNF'ed, most notably the ones on my 2-star pile. I still need to learn when to throw in the towel though, a lot of times I just keep going out of sheer stubbornness! And I did enjoy When We Were Animals, but I also completely agree with the WTF part of your comment! That book was WEIRD.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
That book was nuts. I'm still not sure what it was about.
DeleteBarb, your comment about not remembering reading Poppy Wink Midnight made me laugh so much -- I can say the same about so many books and I wonder why I put myself through them!
ReplyDeleteYep, it was totally forgetful. I've even tried since making this list and it isn't coming back to me. Maybe I disliked it so much I blacked it out.
DeleteSadly, I would have quite a long list. I can't not finish a book. They haunt me! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to be better at it. But I find it really hard.
Deletenot every book works for me either and some of them can be surprising...even to me. lol
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I need to get better at giving up on them though.
DeleteI DNF To Kill a Kingdom, too.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT .
I wish I had. I know so many people loved it but it did not work for me at all.
DeleteI love the topic "Top Ten Books I Wish I HADN'T Read." Some really fun lists could come out of that one! LOL. I haven't read any of the titles on your list, although - for some weird reason - I do find THE HUNGER intriguing.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Lots of people love The Hunger Susan so if you think you'd be interested, I'd say give it a try. I'm definitely in the minority on that one.
DeleteGreat post! It made me laugh several times. I try hard not to DNF but really sometimes you should let it go.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
It definitely is a skill though and I am kind of envious of people who can DNF so easily.
DeleteI probably should have DNFed To Kill a Kingdom, too. I feel like I skimmed most of it!
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't recall a lot about it.
DeleteI agree with a few on there and surprised Little Heaven isn't on there cause I think you finished that one and complained the whole time while I went ahead and DNFed it...lol. :)
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE RIGHT! How could I forget that one. Yes, that was one I definitely took for the team huh?
DeleteSo I finally checked my email spam today and all the blogspot blogs I follow were in my spam folder, which is why I wasn't leaving comments! Sorry Barb! Anyway, I have to laugh because The Hunger is on yet another of your lists. I really enjoyed When We Were Animals, but I know it's not for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI think blogs are going crazy. Yes, The Hunger made it again. It lives on. I've definitely given that book enough publicity because there's no such thing as bad publicity right?
DeleteI tried listening to the Night Vale pocasts, but my mind wanders to much with podcasts. Ha ha. I'm sorry the book didn't ring your chimes. 😉
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd like them either. The book was STRANGE and the only reason I finished it was because there was something going on with a werewolf I needed to find out about.
DeleteI'm worried that Survive The Night is currently on my TBR! I removed The Hunger after reading your review though!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I saved you from The Hunger. You might like Survive the Night though. It has some action but then again, it also has some annoying teenagers.
DeleteThe illustration on the cover of that Alice in Wonderland book is very interesting. I've never been a fan of the story, though... Great list.
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT list.
Funny though - I like Alice retellings, just not the original.
DeleteThe writing in When We Were Animals was so beautiful but the story.... uh... WTF? lol
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great way to describe it.
DeleteI think we all have a few books we wish would have DNF'd.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure too!
DeleteI had a very similar reaction to Survive The Night, except I gave it 2 stars from the outset. I loved the cover so gosh darn much and I was so excited when I broke it out the night before Halloween (it was the only spooky book I had time for that year), and I still kind of can't believe it let me down so badly.
ReplyDeleteI've read another book by her though and liked it and I have a few more to get to so I hope it was a fluke.
DeleteI really didn't care for Wink Poppy Midnight either. Others seem to love it but it was a no for me. I am surprised not to see Little Heaven on this list though :)
ReplyDeleteI know - I completely forgot about that one!

ReplyDeleteHaha - if The Hunger hadn't been on here I would have been seriously disappointed.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
I do have a reputation to uphold with that one don't I?
DeleteLove your spin on this topic!
ReplyDeleteAlice in Wonderland is a massive pile of WTF for me... I've got about an hour of the audiobook for Through The Looking Glass left and then I can finally say I've "read" them both and disliked them, lol.
To Kill A Kingdom is on my kindle waiting for me to get around to reading it but I don't really have any preconceptions as to whether I'll like it or not.
It's rare to find someone else who dislikes Alice. We're definitely a minority there.
