Farm News - January 5, 2025

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.  Things were very laid back and chill at The Farm and we had a lot of fun hanging out with each other and the boys.  We were all spoiled for Christmas, but the most important thing was that we were together.  We went back to work January 2nd and kept asking ourselves why we didn't just take Thursday and Friday off as well.  As I am typing this Saturday night, we are waiting to see how much snow is going to be dumped on us Sunday night into Monday.  Thank heavens I work from home 95% of the time.

Mr. Barb did grab me a few books for the holidays.  The two Prince books were always a bit too pricey for me to justify buying myself and I have always loved Cher.

I also landed a few Netgalley ARCs I really wanted to get my hands on.  I'm so excited to read these!

Victorian Psycho: Virginia Feito
The Cut: C.J. Dotson
The Buffalo Hunter Hunter: Stephen Graham Jones

We managed to watch a few movies while we were off and I really recommend the new one called "Werewolves" as well as the newest Venom movie, "The Last Dance." We also watched "Gladiator 2" which was good, but the original is still the best in my opinion.

Finally, I am trying to reply to comments in 2025 as I really enjoy interacting with you guys and a lot of times when you leave comments, which I really enjoy, I usually have more to say.  Hopefully you'll enjoy hearing back from me.

Stay warm and safe if you are in the path of storms this coming week and I hope you all have a happy and healthy 2025!

  1. Yay for chill holidays...not so yay for chill weather LOL. I hope the snow is minimal!

Glad that NetGalley was generous with you. I haven't gotten new ARCs in a month, but to be honest, there haven't been many I was interested in lately.

Good luck with being able to reply to all your comments! It's time-consuming, but yeah, sometimes they can spark a conversation, plus it's nice to see replies.

    Happy new year again!

    1. Unfortunately, the snow started about an hour ago and we are supposed to have 8-15 inches before it is all over. Makes me glad I work from home. Our whole state is under a state of emergency and since I work for the state, there might be a hope that state offices are closed tomorrow. If so, I see blankets, dogs and a reading day for me!

  2. Good luck with the storm! We're still waiting for any snow at all here, it's been unusually warm so far this winter. Great haul! I'm very curious about Victorian Psycho but I just can't add another book to my January pile right now. I loved having this whole week off work and I will definitely do it again next year. Have a good week, Barb!

    1. We had off from the Saturday before Christmas through the 2nd. Neither of us can still figure out why we returned to work on the 2nd instead of taking two more vacation days and returning tomorrow. The snow has begun, and I hope it's not what they say it could be. I don't mind some snow but not 15 inches!

    1. Those darn alarms will get you every time. Unfortunately, even when I was on vacation, my two dogs still wanted to get up at the usual time to go outside.

  5. Ooh, I almost went and saw Werewolves! Glad to hear it was good. I'm sitting watching the snow outside as well. Hoping for enough to get a snow day off work tomorrow! But with my luck it will get cleaned up enough I have to go in and deal with it anyway. Hope you guys get what you want out of the weather and stay warm!

    1. I don't know if I would have paid to see Werewolves in a theatre but it was definitely worth the stream. The movie and plot reminded me a lot of The Purge but with werewolves. They've already canceled school here tomorrow. It's getting bad out there.

  8. I was asking myself the same thing--why did I not ask for Thursday and Friday off from work . . . I did take time off between Christmas and New Year at least. It went by too fast. I am glad you had a nice holiday season with your family! I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great New Year, Barb. Have a good week!

  13. So happy to hear you had such a wonderful holiday season. I found it hard going back to work today, but it's all good. We got some snow over the weekend, but snow keeps the air clear, and that's also a good thing. Wishing you a great week! :D
