Friday Face-Off (8)- Scary Covers

So it's been quite a while but today I'm once again participating in Friday Face-Off,  which originated over at  by Books by Proxy.  Probably assisted by the fact that it was an easy topic.

HALLOWEEN - A SCARY COVER

So honestly, I've never read this book but I do own a cover.  But it is by one of my favorite authors.  And technically it DOES feature a dog.

1. 2003 German
2. 2011 English (Hodder)
3. 2016 Portuguese

4. 1993 Belgian
5. 2000 Spanish
6. 2011 Spanish

7. 2016 Enlish (audiobook)
8. 2016 German
9. 2007 (Hodder paperback)

So I knew there would be no shortage of covers and this is just a hint.  I actually like quite a few.  #1 strikes me more as a cover for a mystery book.  #8 freaks me out because it's a cartoon dog with a real mouth and on #9, why is Cujo's tongue yellow?

I think my favorite just adds to my suspicions that in my past life I was a Portuguese librarian.  No matter who does these posts, about 90% of the time my favorite is the Portuguese edition.  So what's your favorite????

Friday Face Off (7) - Pirates

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, which originated over at  by Books by Proxy.

“I’m disinclined to acquiesce to your request.” – A cover featuring Pirate

1. English - 2012
2. German - 2013
3. Spanish - 2012

4. Italian - 2012
5. Portuguese - 2012
6. Persian - 2016

So I read "Cinder" back in 2012 when it was new.  It may be a stretch but I do recall some space pirates.  I liked it well enough and always intended to continue on. Well, you know what they say about good intentions...

So I think favorites are the original (#1) and the Italian (#4).  I'm really disliking the white slipper for some reason. It just looks off to me.

So which is your favorite???

Friday Face Off (7) - Children

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, created by Books by Proxy.  This week's topic is children.

“There are children here somewhere. I can smell them.” A cover featuring children

1. Penguin movie tie-in (1999)
2. Scribner (2018)
3. Penguin Readers (2018)

4. Greek edition (2001)
5. Turkish 2dition (1988)
5. Italian edition (2018)

This week I'm sharing Stephen King's "The Body."  It was originally a short story in "Different Seasons" but after the release of the movie adaptation, "Stand By Me" they began releasing it more and more on its own.

I think my favorite is #2.  I love the contrast of the black against the teal.  I do like the font on #6 because it's giving me the "Stranger Things" vibe but it is pretty disturbing, which isn't bad.  It bothers me that #5 has a doll head on the cover.  Ummmm, it was a real person right?  It's been a while since I read it or saw the movie but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a doll.

So which is your favorite???

Friday Face Off (6) - White Noise or Grainy Cover

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, hosted by Books by Proxy.

Today's topic is white noise/grainy cover.

1. Random House Canada (2019)
2. Titan UK (2019)

Man, I had to struggle for a book this week and ended up finally choosing one on my TBR shelf.  I had perfect book but need it for next week's topic.  Sometimes this feature is a lot of work 😉

I have to say #1 is my favorite this week.  This is a horror book and #2 strikes me as some tropical contemporary tale - is it just me?

So not much to choose from but which is your fave???

Friday Face Off (5) - Wrap Around Cover

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, hosted by Books by Proxy.

Today's topic is a wrap around cover.

So although this isn't one of my favorite Stephen King books, I did enjoy it and it's the one sitting on my shelf which I immediately thought of when I saw this week's topic.  Now let's visit some different versions!

1.  English Mass Market Paperback (2001)
2. Movie Tie-In (2002)
3.  English (2001)

4. Turkish (2001)
5. German (2001)
6. Ukranian (2016)

7. Spanish (2012)
8. Spanish (2003)
9. Russian (2001)

So we have quite a choice this week and there were even more I found.  I think #9 is very interesting and I like the coloring of #3.  However, I have to admit the one I own is my favorite closely followed by #4.  There's just something horrific about the blood splatters on the dreamcatcher.

Which one is your favorite???

Friday Face Off (2) - Summer

So I'm back with another round of Friday Face Off, hosted by Books by Proxy  This week is summer themed and I'm probably pushing the limits of interpretation but here it goes!

Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year – Pagan rituals/standing stones/blazing suns – a cover with your own interpretation

1. English - Random House (2005)
2.  English - Ballantine Books (2013)
3.  English - Doubleday Books (1974)
4.  Portuguese - Darkside Books (2015)
5.  Spanish - Circulo de Lectores (1974)
6. Arabic (1973)

When I think of summer, I tend to think of beaches and sharks.  This remains one of my favorite movies and even though I've not read the book, I do own a copy.  I think my favorite is #2 which is the one I bought a few years back.  I'm not sure about #3.  It really doesn't look like a shark to me and #4 is just terrifying.

What's your favorite and what do you think of when it comes to summer?

Friday Face Off - Something Sweet

So I've kind of followed this meme, which is hosted by Books by Proxy  In all honestly, I've seen Lynn, Tammy and Mogsy do it on their blogs and always thought it looked like fun.  Today's topic was one I could get on board with and even if I only participate here and there, I might as well give it a shot.  Each week there is a theme which allows you to feature different covers of the same book to see which people prefer.  So on with the post!

Coraline opened the box of chocolates. The dog looked at them longingly.” – A cover featuring something sweet

 1 - Atlas-Cotact (2008)
2- Bokautgafan Tindur (2008)
3 - Harper Collins (2008)
4 - Harper Perrenial Canada (2008)
5- Harper Torch (2008)
6 - Harper Collins Published Ltd (2009)

What's sweeter than a dog (so now you know why I had to participate this week).  I actually think #4 is the cutest and it's the copy I searched the hardest for to add to my collection.  I also like #6 because the dog is adorable and he's balancing a little race care on his nose.

Which edition do you like best and are you going to see the movie?
