Weekly Reads (01/13/17)

It has been an eventful week here at The Farm.  First and foremost, Booker T had a seizure last weekend.  It lasted less than a minute and he came right out of it, but it still scared me to death. Luckily I was home when it happened and Daddy rushed straight home from work to comfort his boy.  He had a checkup Tuesday and they did blood work and while it was the longest 24 hours ever, I'm pleased to say everything came back OK.  His last one was over 8 months ago and we really don't want to put him on meds unless they worsen and his vet agrees.  It made for some scary times though.

Mr. Barb has some drama going on at work.  I don't want to go into it too much, but I think it's all going to resolve itself in a few weeks - keep your fingers crossed for us.

We ended up renting "Deepwater Horizon" this week and it was such a good movie.  What a catastrophe and I really feel for anyone who was personally affected in any way by this horrible tragedy.  Steelers also won their first playoff game so we will be glued to the set this Sunday to see what happens next.  I also wanted to mention that I found a trailer for an awesome new ABC series. It's called "Downward Dog" and is hailed as "A lonely dog navigates the complexities of 21st century relationships."  It comes out September 2017 and the trailer looks awesome.  Here is a link.  I have no hopes that this series will survive, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Finally, it seems "Little Heaven" has dragged me down a tad but hopefully by the time you read this, it will be done and I will have moved on.  I have a three-day weekend and hope to get lots read. Here's what's up next on the stack.

"Corner Store Witch" and "Down Among the Sticks and Bones" are relatively short reads (as opposed to "Little Heaven" and some others on my Musts/Mights list) so I would like to get them kicked out of the way. Plus, maybe then I'll feel like I've accomplished something.

Also, if you've ever wondered where the "Nails" in the blog title came from, I'm sort of obsessed with nail polish.  I've always done my nails myself and although they look horrid right now as many broke putting up/taking Christmas tree down, I had to share my new decals.  The nail part is actually an iridescent gold but look at the cute boxer head! (gee, close up pics really make my nails look bad -haha).  Wait to you see what I'm planning for my April Prince tribute!

Hope everyone has a great week!!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
Wonder how many times I can find these movies today on TV???

  2. Poor Booker T...I wish I could give the poor guy a big cuddle. That must has been so scary for you and Mr Barb having that happen to your precious boy. I hope he's ok. Sending best wishes to Mr Barb and hope that everything works out ok for him too.

What a cute nail design! Don't worry about your nails as mine look way worse! I chew them when I get nervous! I really want to see Deepwater Horizon-I love that kind of film. Also just had to add The Corner Store Witch to wishlist!

    1. Hopefully I will get "Corner Store Witch" read this weekend and get a review up next week - that's the goal anyways. Thanks for all the well wishes and Booker T gives you doggy kisses right back.

  3. Oh no, I am glad that Booker T is doing better, that would have scared me to death too. Hope you can keep him off the meds. Give him an extra hug from me. :)

I am thinking I should have started Little Heaven a little earlier as I am struggling with it right now and only at like 12% UGH. We are not doing well with our buddy reads...lol. Everyone else I know that has reviewed it has really seemed to like it though they say it's a tad slow...it's that slow part that is getting me...lol.

    1. I know, I was thinking the same thing about us struggling. We're gonna have to pick something lighter for our next one so we KNOW we can enjoy it - haha. It finally started to pick up for me but sadly, not until I hit the 60% or so mark. Hopefully you'll have better luck. Booker T says thanks for all the hugs!

  4. Poor Booker T and poor you and Mr. Barb. I know how scary those seizures can be. They are just awful to watch. My golden started them several months ago and when they started coming every week and lasting for 3 minutes + we had to make the decision to put him phenobarb. I am happy to report (knocking on wood) that he hasn't had one in over 2 months. It was rough at first because the meds made him itchy and worse, lose coordination and he couldn't stand without help but thankfully that went away after 2 weeks. Now he's just ridiculously hungry ALL the time.

    Enjoy your long weekend :)

    1. When I wrote this post, I knew you would understand and remembered you recently had to go through this. If he needed the meds, we wouldn't hesitate. I'm so glad your dog is doing so much better. They sure are scary to experience.

  5. Oh my, poor Booker T! That must have been really scary for you. Hopefully, he doesn't have any more seizures for a long time. I am a little nervous about starting Little Heaven because I don't want to get bogged down by a book right now. I may need to adjust my reading list a bit.

    1. It is scary but he isn't our first dog to have them so at least we have a little experience with the situation. Hope you have better luck with Little Heaven than I did. I didn't hate it but I really wanted to love it - and I didn't.

  6. How scary about Booker T! Wishing you guys the best and hopefully he'll continue getting on fine, and without the meds. Have a great long weekend, I'm looking forward to the extra time off to catch up on some reading too.

  7. Sorry to hear about Booker T but GLAD to hear he's okay. Best wishes going forward that that doesn't happen again, or get worse. That must have been awful.

A Perilous Undertaking and McGuire's new one both look great! Hope all your reads are good this week (and weekend)!

  8. Oh my gosh, poor Booker T and poor you guys. Conan had a few seizures and it was absolutely terrifying. We felt so helpless! I hope he's doing ok now!!!

On a happier note, I just watched the trailer for the dog show and it looks amazing (campy, silly, but amazing)! I chuckled several times watching the preview. (Also, love your nails!)

I'm so jealous that you have "A Perilous Undertaking" ahead for you this week! Hopefully my library will get it in soon!
