Weekly Reads (08/04/17)

I feel like this week was pretty much a duplicate of last in some regards - minus the rain and flooding. Grandpa had another heart attack while in church Sunday morning.  Luckily my uncle was in town and he and his wife were with him so that was one positive. However, he's in need of a hearth catheterization and due to low kidney output/functions they can't do one right now.  So basically they sent him home until that improves.  I understand doing the procedure risks shutting his kidneys down but I feel like now we are playing what I am calling the "death time bomb" game.  Grandpa tells me not to worry because when you are 96, every day is a blessing and a risk but that's easier said than done.

Besides that, all is fine at The Farm.  I've had headaches a lot this week and it's either allergies, stress or sinuses but so far, nothing is really helping much besides sleep.  Thursday was the worst but I managed to work.  The pups are fine and during a thunderstorm the other night, Booker actually got mad and started barking at it which is much better than his stressed out quivering so we had fun encouraging him to get mad and tell the storm off.

We're still watching "Game of Thrones" and "The Strain" although I am pretty disappointed with the way the final season of "The Strain" is being handled.  We also catch "The Mist" every week and "Mr. Mercedes" starts on Sunday night so that will be something new to record.  Oh, and I'm still enjoying "Midnight, Texas."  It's kind of cheesy, but lots of fun.  We watched a HORRIBLE movie over the weekend (just my opinion...and Mr. Barb's too, so sorry if some of you liked it).  "Ghost in the Shell" was boring and not even a good drink helped it any.  I feel asleep during part, woke up, finished watching it and STILL didn't care what I missed.

So I hope to get some decent reading in over the weekend.  Need to get my August Musts & Mights posted soon.  I am STILL struggling to start "Akata Witch" which expires in 10 days so I better hop to it next.  Then here are a few more things I hope to pick up during the next 7 days.  "Optical Delusion" is novella length and I have no doubt it will be a quick read since I love Shea's work, and I'm really looking forward to "Hollywood Homicide."

I hope everyone out there has a great week ahead?  Tell me about what books you have coming up and if you've watched anything exciting!

  1. Sorry to hear about your grandpa, all best wishes for him and his health!

That's awesome Booker barked at the storm. :) Maybe he just had enough! Are you enjoying The Mist? I've only watched the first episode. And Game of Thrones should be good this week!!!

    1. hanks for the well wishes Greg. Yes, I was thrilled when he started barking. I like The Mist but have to admit last night's episode (#7) kind of bored the hell out of me. I just don't think it did much for the story development. Of course, I've had a raging headache for 2 days so it might be me. There are only three episodes left this season but Mr. Mercedes starts Sunday so there's always that. Man, King seems to be killing it this year.

  2. I hope your Grandpa is able to have the procedure very soon. The waiting game is not a fun one. We are enjoying Midnight Texas as well. It is just a lot of fun. Have a great week!

  4. Wishing your grandpa the best! And thanks for the heads up about Ghost in the Shell, wasn't really excited about it before and now I'll definitely not watch it. Looking forward to your thoughts on Akata Witch.

  5. You must be worried sick about your grampa so fingers crossed that they can get on with this procedure really soon. Good on Booker T for sorting that storm out and giving it what for! Auntie Chuckles is very proud of him!

I certainly want to read Optical Delusion. I plan to get through a few Hunter Shea books this month! I've got so much tv that I need to watch but all I want to do is watch Game of Thrones!

  6. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandpa, Barb. Wow, 96. My grandpa was put on hospice last week so I know some of what you are going through. We had a similar conversation last weekend. He has Parkinson's, and he told me he's ready to move on soon. It doesn't really make it any easier.

    1. I have a hard time trying to convince him to have any procedures or anything because even though I want him around, I can see where he's coming from and want to respect his wishes.

  7. I lost my own grandpa years ago, but I miss my grandma more, since I was much closer to her than I ever was to Gramps. Still, it's hard.... I'm really sorry to hear about your own grandpa's situation, and hope it gets resolved VERY soon!! I'll keep him in my prayers. It's a blessing that you've had him this long! But still, you never want them to go. I know the feeling....

You made me laugh with Booker's reaction to that storm! Yes, this is better than him getting all stressed out over it.

OMG, those reads.... I hope you enjoy them! That cover with the eye is the stuff of nightmares! I can't look at it too long. Well, you know me! Lol.

Please keep us posted on your grandpa's condition!! LOTSA HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS!! And THANKS for being such a sweet blogging buddy!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

    1. So far Grandpa seems to be doing better. It's funny. I grew up next door to both of my Grandparents but it's only been the past 7 or 8 years, after my Grandmother's death, that Grandpa and I have gotten so close. Thanks for the good thoughts!
