Waiting on Wednesday (48)

"Waiting on" Wednesday" is weekly meme hosted over at Breaking the Spine which spotlights upcoming anticipated releases.

May 3, 2016
FROM GOODREADS: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels—“the Mark Twain of things that live under your bed”*—comes a new novel of Midnight, Texas, the town where some secrets will never see the light of day...

At Midnight’s local pawnshop, weapons are flying off the shelves—only to be used in sudden and dramatic suicides right at the main crossroads in town.

Who better to figure out why blood is being spilled than the vampire Lemuel, who, while translating mysterious texts, discovers what makes Midnight the town it is. There’s a reason why witches and werewolves, killers and psychics, have been drawn to this place.

And now they must come together to stop the bloodshed in the heart of Midnight. For if all hell breaks loose—which just might happen—it will put the secretive town on the map, where no one wants it to be...

WHY I'M WAITING:  I love this small town of intrigue and mysterious characters.  I think this series is much better done than Sookie Stackhouse as well.  I've heard there is only three planned, making this the last one, so I both anxious and sad to read this one.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR THIS WEEK?

  1. Great cover and blurb! I have never read this author...and I'm not a fan of most vampires...but maybe this one. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

    1. The vampire paranormal aspects of the series are basically only the backdrop for the mystery/drama that happens...and vampires, as of yet, have not been a HUGE part in the books. You should definitely give the first one a go.

  2. I've read the first book in this series and thought it was a lot of fun. Hope you get the chance to read it soon!

  3. Although I'm a fan of vampire novels -- specifically, vampire romances -- I don't much like the Sookie Stackhouse series. Well, at least, not the first book. I began to read it, and just didn't care for it. I have a feeling I won't like Anne Rice's vamp books, either. There are vampire books, and there are vampire books. I guess I've been spoiled by The Twilight Saga, which I just ADORE!! Lol.

Now this particular book looks VERY interesting, and I think I just might want to read it. It has an interesting mix of elements in it. So thanks for featuring it!!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my own WOW!! :)

    1. The vampire element isn't really strong in this one. Nothing like the Sookie books. The mystery, drama and quirkiness of the town are in the forefront. You should give it a chance.

  4. I haven't actually read any of these but I've been missing Charlaine lately. Was actually considering a Sookie re-read but maybe I'll try something new of hers instead. :) Thanks for sharing!

  6. I haven't picked up this series yet because I am still a little mad about how the Sookie series ended. Since you this is even better, I may give this one a shot soon. Great pick!

    1. Carole, I really do think this series is better. However, I am one of the oddballs who liked how the Sookie series ended so maybe you don't want to trust me! I do believe the Sookie novels got out of hand and can't believe I read all 13!

  7. Great pick! I have been wanting to read this series, but I'm still mad at the author over the Sookie books and I haven't even read the last two of those yet. I got so tired of the fairy stuff! Anyway, I see you said this series is even better so that makes me want to read it even more. :)

  8. Great choice! I've been wanting to read something from this author for the longest. Would you recommend the Sookie Stackhouse or this series first for a Charlaine Harris newbie?

    1. Jamie, I would definitely recommend this one. Sookie starts out strong but somewhere along the way loses itself in my opinion. Plus, fans either love or hate the way Harris ended the 13 installment series. So far, I think this series is only planned for 3 books and I think they have much more content that the Sookie ones do at times.

  9. Ohh great pick Barb! I haven't read anything by Charlaine Harris yet but I do have her Sookie Stackhouse Series books which I have a really good feeling I am going to love and enjoy that series, but this books series really looks and sounds utterly fantastic and right up my alley! Thank you for your awesome post my friend.

  10. I read the first few books of the Sookie Stackhouse books, but eventually lost interest. This series does sound interesting, so I'll have to check it out. Hope you love it!
