January 2017 Wrap Up

January was not as good of reading month as I had initially hoped. While I don't think "Little Heaven" necessarily caused a reading slump, it definitely was the cause of a slow-down.  I'm happy to say things have picked back up though.  I managed to read 5 books and am more than half-way through a 6th which means I should have an early February finish.  I also got approved for some ARCs I really wanted during the month so I'm thrilled about that (and thank heaven many of the don't come out until after June).  So.....on with the update! (how did I end up with 7 challenges??? - Oh well).

GOODREADS: 5/100
2017 CLOAK & DAGGER CHALLENGE: 1/25
(A Perilous Undertaking)
2017 FLIGHTS OF FANTASY CHALLENGE: 3/18
(Certain Dark Things, The Corner Store Witch, Down Among the Sticks and Bones)
2017 HORROR READING CHALLENGE: 2/25
(Certain Dark Things, Little Heaven)
2017 WHAT AN ANIMAL CHALLENGE: 1/20
(Certain Dark Things)
2017 NEW RELEASE CHALLENGE: 3/61
(Little Heaven, Down Among the Sticks and Bones, A Perilous Undertaking)
BLOGGER SHAME REVIEW CHALLENGE: 0/12 (Boo!)

Of the 5 books I read, I had 1 3-paw read(which was closer to 2/5 than I hate to admit), 1 4-paw read and 3 5-paw read (and those 3 were awesome!)  So far, "Certain Dark Things" has been my favorite horror read and "A Perilous Undertaking" my favorite.  I really need to pick things up in February though.

So how was January for you guys???

  1. You are doing great so far! Little Heaven did slow you down a bit as it took you a while to read it, I think you should change the rating...lol. :)

Hope this month brings you lots of great reads!!

    1. You know what, you have a point. I just went to Goodreads and changed my rating. As much as this book haunts me, it seems like the right thing to do.

  2. I actually did really good in January because I used December to get ahead. But not sure I can continue that pace, what with LIFE and all taking away reading/blogging time! Hope February goes well for you!

    1. You too Tammy. You did have a great January. I'm hoping since I started slower than normal, I'll finish strong.

  3. I have Little Heaven to read but skipped it last month largely because of the issues you were having with it. I do need to get to it soon though. I am glad you enjoyed A Perilous Undertaking.

  4. I hate it when a book causes a slow down or slump! Hopefully February will be better for you. I don't expect any DNFs in the first half of the month as I'm doing series catchups and my books read total will slow with them being full size paperbacks. Still, they should be great reads so I'm excited!

    1. Yes, I was totally happy with that many 5/5 ratings. Definitely a good month and I think "Certain Dark Things" will be on my top 10 reads of 2017 for sure!

  6. Such a lot of challenges - considering how quickly the month flew by you did excellently! Hopefully some of these challenges have cross over potential.

    1. Thanks. Yes, I am able to do a lot of cross overs so that will help tremendously as the month progresses.

  7. Oh I hate it when a good book slows everything else down. :) I hope february picks back up for you, but you still got a good start. Those all look like good challenges- I joied Cloak & Dagger too and I better get going lol!

  8. We definitely need to share any good discoveries of new horror releases. I'd love to read as many as 25 horror novels this year, but I don't know if I'll find enough of them I'm interested in - not like the sheer bounty of them last year! Little Heaven was a disappointment for me as well, unfortunately.

    1. I know. I thought there seemed to be more horror last year as well. I still want to read The Troop one day but I don't think I'll rush into it now.

  9. Three awesome 5-star reads is a success! I'm kind of glad Little Heaven was my first read of the year. I got it over and done with. ;)

    1. That's one good way of looking at it. What made it worse was "Certain Dark Things" was my read before it and it was super-awesome which may have contributed to me not liking Little Heaven as much.
