Can't Wait Wednesday (136)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

FROM GOODREADS: An entrancing new series starring a funny, impulsive, and sometimes self-congratulatory young woman who discovers she has psychic abilities—and then must decide whether she will use her skills for good or…not.

Teddy Cannon isn’t your typical twenty-something woman. She’s resourceful. She’s bright. She’s scrappy. She can also read people with uncanny precision. What she doesn’t realize: she’s actually psychic.

When a series of bad decisions leads Teddy to a run-in with the police, a mysterious stranger intervenes. He invites her to apply to the School for Psychics, a facility hidden off the coast of San Francisco where students are trained like Delta Force operatives: it’s competitive, cutthroat, and highly secretive. They’ll learn telepathy, telekinesis, investigative skills, and SWAT tactics. And if students survive their training, they go on to serve at the highest levels of government, using their skills to protect America, and the world.

In class, Teddy befriends Lucas, a rebel without a cause who can start and manipulate fire; Jillian, a hipster who can mediate communication between animals and humans; and Molly, a hacker who can apprehend the emotional state of another individual. But just as Teddy feels like she’s found where she might belong, strange things begin to happen: break-ins, missing students, and more. It leads Teddy to accept a dangerous mission that will ultimately cause her to question everything—her teachers, her friends, her family, and even herself.

Set in a world very much like our own, School for Psychics is the first book in a stay-up-all night series.

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  I love the sounds of the MC and she sounds like someone who will be really fun to know.  Plus it sounds like she is trying to figure out whether to use her powers for good or evil which sounds interesting. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the cover, but the synopsis sealed the deal.

WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

  2. I saw this the other day and immediately added it to Goodreads. I love the idea of the school setting. But you're right about the cover. The floating head is weird.

    1. Yea I think they could have done a much better cover. But if I read it on my Kindle, guess it won't matter.

  7. Sounds like it could be good! Although when I first looked at the cover, for some reason I thought it said School of Physics, and I wondered why that was such a big deal. :-) Thanks for visiting my CWW at Lisa Loves Literature earlier!

    1. I can see what you would think that and yea, that wouldn't be such a good title for a fiction book.

  9. This concept actually sounds pretty awesome. Psychic and sort of a deadly weapon. Yes!

  15. I totally agree with you on the cover. It's just "meh". But the plot! Oh, the plot!! YEAH!!!! There's a Hogwarts vibe in there that I really like, and what a FUN idea, to have a school for psychics!! Although there are people who say this is all bunk, I'm not one of them. I've always been fascinated by psychic abilities! And the fact that, in this novel, the students are going to use them to protect others, is GREAT! I just hope that Teddy can overcome the temptation to use these talents for evil. Well, I'll find out when I get my hands on this book!

Thanks for sharing, Barb! Also, thanks for dropping by and commenting on my CWW post!! HUGS TO YOU & THE BOYS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)

    2. I didn't really pay much attention to them either. I hope it's one where the cover plays out better in person.
