TTT - Will I or Won't I? A Series Overview

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but starting this week, they are handing over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

This week we're looking at series and ones we will or won't finish.  Of course, I decided to mix it up and do a little of both.

THE WON'TS
I made it to book #8...but they kept getting more and more far fetched.  I can't see me ever picking these up again, especially since #25 is coming out soon.

I couldn't stand this book and since I've heard many people say book #1 was the best, I don't have high hopes for the rest.

I can't even remember what this one was about, so I can assume I'm not interested in continuing.

There's only two so far but I think more are planned.  However, one was enough for me!

People rave about this graphic novel series  but I just didn't get all the hype.  I only had to read #1 to determine the rest weren't for me.

THE WILLS

I still need to read #8, #9 and #10 but I LOVE this series so it's just a matter of making time for them.

The first book in the Devil's Isle series was really good and I definitely plan on catching up before I fall much further behind.

Another series I read the first two books of and loved, but never got around to picking up the rest.

I've always enjoyed this series - even if I don't think she dresses the best for vampire fighting.

So technically I haven't started this series yet but I do plan on doing so.  Plus, I needed a series to feature that wasn't urban fantasy :)

So there you have it. Have you read any of these?  Can you sway me to move any of the won'ts to the wills list?  (Don't even try with the Anita Blake ones though)/

  1. I haven't read any of these, but I really want to start Patricia Briggs' series. I've heard wonderful things about it, and if you're still enjoying it this far in--good things! <3

    1. I would highly recommend the series. I don't think I've run into a bad book yet.

  2. I ditched the Anita Blake books too, around book 5 or 6 when the series started to become a hot mess. Glad to see the Mercy Thompson books still on your "will" list though, I love that series!

    1. I'm surprised she's still cranking them out - seems a lot of people have ditched them.

  3. The Incryptid series is on my list too! Gosh, Anita Blake. I used to love that series, but you're right, it got too far fetched even for an urban fnatasy series,

  4. Agree with you on the won't finish. I stuck out LKH longer as I'd bulk bought the set in a charity shop so I made it pretty far and wished I hadn't! I didn't get into the 5th Wave and never finished it. Yes to Mercy Thompson! I still have a couple of books to catch up on.

    1. At least you got them in the charity shop. I actually liked the 5th Wave movie better than the book but most people hated the movie. Guess I'm just strange.

  5. I'm giving on The 5th Wave, too. Just no real interest to continue.

    1. So many people loved it. Just wasn't for me.

  6. I loved the 5th Wave! But yes, it was the best of the series. So I agree, don't bother with the rest. Have a great week.

    1. Glad I got it from the library - I never had to regret buying it.

  7. I REALLY want to start the Seanan McGuire series you listed, I keep seeing new books pop up and I just feel so behind. And Laurell K. Hamilton !!! I used to love her books. I can't believe that series is up to #25! Yeah, far fetched and over the top are terms I would use about that series, but if you're in the mood, they are a blast.

    1. I loved the first two but in all honestly, will probably have to reread them. All I remember are a group of really tiny funny mice.

  8. LKH is still writing that series she murdered?! I won't ever be finishing it either. I don't typically finish a series anyway but her disdain for the people who loved the earlier Anita bothers me.

    1. Yep, a new one comes out each year. I don't think she writes anything else now.

  9. I had been planning to continue The 5th Wave but now I've seen it on several people's quit lists today so I may have to rethink that, lol.

    1. Guess it depends on how much you liked the first one :)

  10. Sometimes the best way to decide whether or not to continue a series is whether you remember much. I remember being intrigued by the Rose Petal Grave cover, but don't recall what it's about. Must have skipped it for a reason.

  11. I definitely agree with your Wills list. I have read a lot further than you in the Anita Blake series and it definitely changed over time. I have a review copy of the newest one (I blame my sister for that but that is a whole other story) so I guess I am trying that one again.

  12. Sex Criminals was such a disappointment. I was in the same place, people raved about it, but it was definitely not for me.

    1. Wow, someone else that doesn't like it - we are few and far between!

  13. I am so sad about Anita Blake! I have only read the first 3 books so far, and it's good up until this moment, but I see so many people complaining about the series being more about Anita's sex life and less about the vampires and zombies and the rest of the creatures she's dealing with and the dangers she finds herself in as the story progresses.

I need to pick up Briggs' series. I've put it off for so long because I have super high expectations.

    1. I was okay with the sex-capades of Anita in the beginning, because there was more to the other story. Then it became TOO much.

  14. Oh hell yes, I will definitely finish the Briggs books. Love em.

  15. God, I don't even know where I got to in the Anita Blake books, maybe like 10? They've gotten ridiculous though or at least so I hear.

  16. The Anita Blake series went into a direction I didn't really care to go--so that's one I won't be continuing either. I really need to dive back into the Mercy Thompson series, and while I haven't read any of the other series you want to continue, they are all on my list to read.

    1. I love almost everything Seanan McGuire writes!

  17. Briggs! Yay! We're switched on two. I still read Anita Blake now and again and enjoy them. But they're not auto grabs. And I bailed on Neill after Ethan. I was so mad! I haven't quite forgiven that. lol

    1. Uh oh. Sounds like something bad happens to Ethan!

  18. If you weren't enamored by the Fifth Wave, you won't like the other too. They were such a disappointment.

  19. I loved the first vol of Sex Criminals, but it went downhill from there for me because it changed so much. I gave it four volumes to see if maybe it'd hook me again, but I've also given up :-/

  20. If you didn't like the 5th Wave, don't bother with the other two. I thought they were okay myself, but I LOVED the first book.

  21. I've heard the same thing about The Fifth Wave books, that the first one is the best. ☺
