Books to Bark and Crow About -

Hey guys!  It's me - Booker T!  Boy has it been a while.  Mom has been pretty stingy with computer time for me and Cass lately but I finally just put my paw down, grabbed the computer, and ran upstairs.  So basically I spent a few days under the weather this past week and while doing so, I found some new puppy titles coming out that I can't wait to share with you.  So grab your favorite beverage (mine is water) and read on!

TITLE: Alaskan Catch
AUTHOR: Sue Pethick
PUBLISHING DATE: September 24, 2019

SYNOPSIS: A dream job it's not. But for Emily Prentice, working as a seafood inspector in Ketchikan, Alaska, takes her one step closer to becoming a marine biologist. And it'll give her a first taste of independence from her overprotective mom and the doctor boyfriend she's pushing into Emily's arms.

Emily's certainly not looking for romance . . . until a huge dog knocks her down and sends her flying into fish goo. It's love at first sight for Emily and Bear, whose handsome owner, Sam, becomes flummoxed when the fallen worker in the hard hat turns out to be a pretty young woman.

Emily and Bear begin a beautiful relationship, with Sam in tow. And before long the attraction between the humans becomes undeniable. But separation and a dangerous undertaking soon leave Emily wondering if she'll lose Sam before she gets to tell him how she really feels . . .

Bear wants his humans staying together, and before he's done, both Emily and Sam will learn one essential canine truth: A dog is the only one on earth who loves you more than you love yourself.

Mom just read a book by this author last month and loved it so I know she'll have to have this one.

TITLE: The Dog I Loved
AUTHOR: Susan Wilson
PUBLISHING DATE: November 12, 2019

SYNOPSIS: Rose Collins is a free woman. After spending years in prison for a murder she didn't commit, Rose has finally been released, and a mysterious benefactor has landed her a job as a project manager on a crumbling estate in Dogtown, an abandoned settlement with a rich history.

With the support of Meghan, a grumpy ex-soldier confined to a wheelchair after an explosion, who she met while training Shark, Meghan's service dog, as part of a prisoner rehabilitation program, Rose begins to rebuild her life. As she settles in at Dogtown and learns more about the original residents - women who often lived alone, with only their dogs for protection - she feels a connection to them, and, for the first time, starts to believe that she might have a chance at a happy ending.

But when secrets from her past begin to emerge and threaten the life Rose has built for herself, she and Meghan must fight for their freedom, happiness, and the chance at redemption.

This author has written tons of books featuring us dogs and I really think Mom will enjoy reading about Dogtown.

TITLE: No Ordinary Dog
AUTHOR: Will Chesney
PUBLISHING DATE:  November 12, 2019

SYNOPSIS: Two dozen Navy SEALs descended on Osama bin Laden's compound in May 2011. After the mission, only one name was made public: Cairo, a Belgian Malinois and military working dog. This is Cairo's story, and that of his handler, Will Chesney, a member of SEAL Team Six whose life would be irrevocably tied to Cairo's.

Starting in 2008, when Will was introduced to the DEVGRU canine program, he and Cairo worked side by side, depending on each other for survival on hundreds of critical operations in the war on terrorism. But their bond transcended their service. Then, in 2011, the call came: Pick up your dog and get back to Virginia. Now.

What followed were several weeks of training for a secret mission. It soon became clear that this was no ordinary operation. Cairo was among the first members of the U.S. military on the ground in Pakistan as part of Operation Neptune Spear, which resulted in the successful elimination of bin Laden.

As Cairo settled into a role as a reliable "spare dog," Will went back to his job as a DEVGRU operator, until a grenade blast in 2013 left him with a brain injury and PTSD. Unable to participate in further missions, he suffered from crippling migraines, chronic pain, memory issues, and depression. Modern medicine provided only modest relief. Instead, it was up to Cairo to save Will's life once more--and then up to Will to be there when Cairo needed him the most.

I know Mom loves collecting/reading books about service dogs and seriously folks, that pup has the BEST EARS EVER! I wish mine would do that!

So I hope you enjoyed my picks and have found some you'd like to check out.  Cass says to tell everyone hello.  He's at the window watching the birds.  I swear, that dog is obsessed I tell ya.
Until next time!

  1. Such cute dog covers especially the first one! Cass would get on well with my dad-he's very much a bird watcher!

    1. Yes they would get along well. When we go for walks, Cass always makes us laugh because he is always looking up in trees for birds and squirrels. He looks rather comical at times.

  2. All of these sound so good! I especially love the sound of Alaskan Catch and the story of Cairo😁

    1. I agree. I am getting ready to put up some new shelves and I can see one completely being animal/dog titles.

  3. I need to add No Ordinary Dog to my list!!

  4. Replies
    1. I think so too. Booker found some good ones.

  5. I really like the sound of The Dog I Loved. Dogs plus a character that has served time in jail for a crime that they didn't commit really caught my attention.

    1. I've read a few other books by that author so I know I should enjoy it.

  6. These all look great. I entered a giveaway for The Dog I loved to use as a Dog Days giveaway book if I win one. 🐾

  7. Great books - I love that cover for The Dog I loved.
    Lynn :D

    1. I think it's such a beautiful and unique looking dog on the cover. It's nice to see different breeds.

  8. I'm adding all these to my book list, Barb! They sound great and I'm also going to look for older books by these authors!

    1. Sorry for adding to your ever-growing TBR. I know you'll repay the favor!
