Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOOREADS: A collection of four chilling novels, ingeniously wrought gems of terror from the brilliantly imaginative, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fireman, Joe Hill
“Snapshot” is the disturbing story of a Silicon Valley adolescent who finds himself threatened by “The Phoenician,” a tattooed thug who possesses a Polaroid Instant Camera that erases memories, snap by snap.
A young man takes to the skies to experience his first parachute jump. . . and winds up a castaway on an impossibly solid cloud, a Prospero’s island of roiling vapor that seems animated by a mind of its own in “Aloft.”
On a seemingly ordinary day in Boulder, Colorado, the clouds open up in a downpour of nails—splinters of bright crystal that shred the skin of anyone not safely under cover. “Rain” explores this escalating apocalyptic event, as the deluge of nails spreads out across the country and around the world.
In “Loaded,” a mall security guard in a coastal Florida town courageously stops a mass shooting and becomes a hero to the modern gun rights movement. But under the glare of the spotlights, his story begins to unravel, taking his sanity with it. When an out-of-control summer blaze approaches the town, he will reach for the gun again and embark on one last day of reckoning.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: First of all, it's Joe Hill. Secondly, look at that creepy yet gorgeous cover. And lastly, it sounds terrific.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???
I tend to avoid anthologies now as they are so hit and miss but I think the cover is good. Nice and creepy!
ReplyDeleteI've found them to be the same way but I think since this is 4 novellas but the same (great) author, and they all play into weather, that it will be better than most - at least I hope.
DeleteI almost picked this too! I love that cover, and I like seeing that Joe Hill is following in his dad's footsteps and writing novellas. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI know. Such a talented family. Of course, I don't think you could be Stephen King's kid and grow up and have a "Normal" job.
DeleteThe cover is super cool with the colors and way it kind of breaks apart...
ReplyDeleteI know, I love the skulls that are worked into it as well.
DeleteI've read one of his books and enjoyed it. Need to read some more. Hope you can get a hold of this one soon!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my CWW
What a stunning cover! Yes, I like it, even though it's creepy.... The stories inside are another matter entirely, though! They're for brave people like you!! Lol. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my CWW post!! Woof, woof to the boys!! <3 <3 :) :)
Hey, at least you like the cover. Thanks for visiting even thought I know you tend to stay away from creepy things.
DeleteThat cover is really cool. I hope you love this!
ReplyDeleteTressa @ Wishful Endings
Thanks Tressa and thanks again for hosting.
DeleteOooo, I am so excited. I love Joe Hill and this is the first I've heard of this one!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteThat's an interesting cover! And those stories all sound so good- I'm especially curious about Aloft. That one sounds so different, I feel like I need to know more. :)
ReplyDeleteThen you'll have to add it to your TBR so you can find out.
DeleteA Polaroid Instant Camera that erases memories, snap by snap? That sounds like an awesome story! :D
ReplyDeleteI know. Sometimes something like that would be nice to have huh? But not good in the wrong hands.
DeleteWow, I feel a little bad - I've not heard of Joe Hill! I do love that cover though. :D I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Barb. =)
Check out my WoW post!
He's Stephen King's son so if you like his writing, you should check out Joe Hill.
DeleteThis does look good. I still need to read the ARC of his last new book. I am hopeless sometimes. I hope you love it once you get the chance to read it.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. I need to read it as well and I have an ARC and a hardback Mr. Barb got me for Christmas because I love Hill so much.
DeleteOhh, thanks for highlighting this - definitely a must read.
ReplyDeleteLynn :D
Glad I could share it.
DeleteI almost requested this from Edelweiss yesterday! The fact that it's an anthology was the only reason why I didn't. I like Joe Hill, but for some reason, I'm terrible when it comes to motivating myself to read story collections.
ReplyDelete~Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
I'm not the best at them either but have better luck when they are by one author and have a theme.
DeleteJoe Hill is good. I've been reading Fireman recently. I hope you enjoy this one when you get it!
ReplyDeleteI need to start that one sometime soon.
DeleteI can't wait for your review! You always find the best horror short stories!
ReplyDeleteThanks. And hey, I finally read "Wytches!"
DeleteHe's a horror writer right? Are these all horror stories, do you think? Bc they sound soooo bloody good, but also horror...
ReplyDeleteHe's horror but I some of his stuff is more suspenseful and on the thriller side - kind of like his father. He doesn't write so much gory horror.
DeleteI have The Fireman sitting on my nightstand but I haven't picked it up yet. I find the length daunting! I normally shy away from anthologies because I prefer full-length stories, but this one sounds good! Nice pick!
ReplyDeleteHe and his father are certainly a wordy bunch that's for sure!
DeleteHa, I have this set up to post next week. I'M SO EXCITED FOR IT. That cover is spectacular too. :)
ReplyDeleteOh that cover definitely has some creepy to it. Looks interesting!
