Weekly Reads/Stacking the Shelves (168)/Sunday Post

Stacking the Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves or TBR piles, may it be physical or virtual.  This means you can include books you buy in a physical store, online, books you borrow from the library or friends, review books, gifts and of course, ebooks! The original meme was started over at Tynga's Reviews. And it now has a new co-host where individuals can link up as well - Marlene from Reading Reality.  Clicking on the book (or title) should take you to the Goodreads page.  I'm also now linking up with the Sunday Post which is hosted by Kimberly@Caffeinated Book Reviewer

So I've been on stay-cation this past week and it's been hotter than hell.  I've not really blogged and I do apologize and will try to catch up with everyone before the weekend is out.  The family has survived another 4th of July.  We did have a cookout on what is now the hottest day of the year so far - the heat index was 105.  We had a tent and three fans running outside. I think everyone had a good time and stayed safe but was I ever ready for people to leave.  The dogs would come out and visit in intervals because of the heat and you know we'd never put them at risk.

Gpa is still doing okay.  He is home and has nurses visiting him along with a physical therapist.  He has about 5 more pounds of weight to get off of him but he is feeling better.  We did some work on the backyard while we were off but the heat was just ridiculous.  As I am typing this Friday evening, it has finally started to cool off some.  I did just finish "The Outsider"  - nothing like a huge King book to read while on vacation, but you'll have to wait until Stormi and I publish our buddy read to hear my thoughts.

We finally watched "The Quiet Ones" which I really liked a lot, and I finished season 2 of "Riverdale" and do believe it redeemed itself somewhat in the end.  All I can say is "Jughead for Life!"

So not a big stack this week but I did get 3 books for review.  "Life on a Leash" looks like a fun summer read and I couldn't pass up wither "The Spite Game" or "Seventh Born."

So I hope everyone had a wonderful week and if you celebrated July 4th, hope you had fun and stayed safe.  What books did you add to your shelves this weekend???

  1. It's melting weather here and my dog doesn't stay outside much either. He;s older and the heat gets to him more now. Great books and I can't wait to see The Quiet Ones too.

    1. Booker T is 8 and I think because his face is more smooshed than Cass', he has a harder time with the heat.

  2. I didn't get much done during my week off. It has just been too hot! I am happy to hear that Grandpa is recovering at home. Enjoy all of your new books!

    1. Thanks Carole. Oh well, we may have not gotten a lot done, but at least we didn't have to go to work :)

  3. I picked up Seventh Born this week as well, couldn't resist it either. Entangled Teen is coming out with some really good looking stuff lately.

  4. I'm glad our weather has stayed in the 80's as I couldn't cope with it going over 100! Ugh! I'm getting reading done and tv watched so I can't complain but me and my garden plants look forward to some rain!

    1. I know. It gets so dry and humid when it reaches the 90s.

  5. Yes! It has been so hot here too but finally back down into the 80s here in Iowa. I love the Life on a Leash cover. Reminds me of myself right now. I am working part time just for the summer at a dog kennel and some of those dogs can pull me around lol. There was a beautiful Great Dane, Iris, that I thought for sure would drag me across the grass but she was so gentle. So were these two BEAUTIFUL St. Bernard's. Have a great week.

  6. Oh I am sorry that the summer is so hot. I hope it get cooler soon.
Fortunately, it’s already raining here so it’s cooler than usual.

Nice haul! I hope you enjoy all of your new books.

    1. I will admit, it seems I'm never completely happy with the weather :)

  7. I'm so glad the 4th is over, simply because Otis won't sleep with me when fireworks are going off. He finds the furthest away place to hide, so sad! Yep, hot here too. People in town posted temperature ratings all day on Facebook yesterday and some were as high as 118!

    1. Poor guy. I really wish they would halt the sale of fireworks to the public. The dogs can seem to handle the larger ones in town for about 20 minutes. 118??? I would die!

  8. Seventh Born has a nice cover to it.

This heat has been insane. I was so glad yesterday was a little bit cooler!

    1. We've had a few cooler days and of course, now when I see temps forecast for the 80s I think "That's not so bad."

  9. The Outsider is something I plan to save for a staycation if I want to get it read sooner than dragging it out a couple weeks. Look forward to see your thoughts on it. Stay cool and happy reading.

    1. Yes, I love longer books but they can be a tad bit harder to read when you are so busy!

  10. I had to laugh at the fact that you had three fans outside...hehehe. This week is suppose to be a bit cooler in the fact that the heat index will be down but I don't call 90 a cool down. :(

  12. Seems like it's been hot everywhere. Today is the first day it feels pleasant outside. I've been taking it easy this week, but I did manage to finish two books. I hope you have a great week! My Sunday post is here.

  13. Ugh, the heat! We only had a heat index to 98° but our apartment was at least 91° inside for three days. The thermostat doesn't go above that, so I had no clue what it really was. We can't have AC because the wiring is too old. It's really saying something when you need fans outside on The Fourth. Yowser!

Happy to hear your grandpa keeps getting better! Have a wonderful new week. 🌞

    1. Thanks La La and our house is 117 years old so we only have 2 window units. It would cost a fortune to put in central air.

  14. Jughead for life ha ha! I love Riverdale, and yeah S2 got better I think. Sorry to hear about that heat- it's hard to enjoy anything when it's like that!

Hope your grandpa keeps doing okay.

  19. Glad your 4th July celebrations went well. So hot, we're also having hot weather - course the British are not used to it so we're completely wimpy.
