Can't Wait Wednesday (252)

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books.  It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

FROM GOODREADS: If you loved American Horror Story 1984, you'll die for this paperback original thriller mashup of Agatha Christie's The A.B.C. Murders and Riverdale in which a game turns deadly with a killer who picks his victims one by one, letter by letter.

Every year the senior class at Lincoln High plays assassin. Lia Prince has been planning her strategy for years and she's psyched that not only does she finally get to play, she's on a team with Devon Diaz. But this year, the game isn't any fun--it's real. Abby Ascher, Ben Barnard, and Cassidy Clarke have all turned up . . . dead. Can Lia stop the ABC killer before he reaches D?

WHY I CAN'T WAIT:  Magic word - Riverdale.  Since I'm trash for it, the comparison automatically caught my attention.  It also sounds like a quick, fun read.

CASSIUS'S PICK

FROM GOODREADS: Return to the unforgettable world of the Newbery Medal-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling novel The One and Only Ivan (soon to be a major motion picture!) in this incredible sequel, starring Ivan’s friend Bob!

Bob sets out on a dangerous journey in search of his long-lost sister with the help of his two best friends, Ivan and Ruby. As a hurricane approaches and time is running out, Bob finds courage he never knew he had and learns the true meaning of friendship and family.

Bob, Ivan, and Ruby have touched the hearts of millions of readers, and their story isn’t over yet.

WHY CASSIUS CAN'T WAIT:  I've seen this adorable elephant and ape on the cover of one of Mom's books and I keep asking her to read it to me.  She always says she doesn't feel like crying. You'd think since Apollo came along I could convince her to pick it up.  Well, now she has no choice since I'm pretty sure this is a sequel.  Also, I heard they are making a film of the first.  I guess if she doesn't read it I can catch the movie!

WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK???

  1. Never watched those shows being compared, but even so I am interested in The Game! Pretty twisted premise, but sounds like it has some potential to be an entertaining teen horror/thriller.

    1. It does sound twisty and while I hate to admit it (well, maybe a little) I'm all down for some entertaining teen deaths.

    1. I know. And that poor puppy on the cover looks so sad.

  3. Ah Cass, I'm afraid I can't read anything that is too sad! I like the idea of your book choice though. I like the sound of the story for your mum's choice but I'm a bit leery of YA at the moment!

    1. I ALWAYS worry more about animals than humans. That's a great memory to associate with your Grandmother.

    1. I liked it but it was probably because of the 80s nostalgia more than all the twists and turns it kept taking.

  8. I hope you like it when you read it.

  9. I'm definitely in for The Game! We once played a non-lethal version of the assassins game when I was in college, and it was a lot of fun. :)

    1. Well, I'm glad it was non-lethal. It sounds like it would have been tons of fun!

  10. The One and Only Ivan is my friend's favorite book to read to her fourth grade classes. I didn't realize there was a sequel. Thanks for the heads up, Cass! 🐘✨

  11. I like the sound of The Game. The Christie nature of it and the killer people picking people off one by one alphabetically.

    1. Yea, seems like I'm seeing tons of books with Christie references now. I'm reading Eight Perfect Murders now and it references the ABC murders as well.
