Top Ten Tuesday - Halloween Freebie

The top 10 weekly meme used to be hosted by The Broke and the Bookish they  handed over the reins to ThatArtsyReaderGirl who can be found HERE.  Each week she will focus on lists which cover various topics related to books and reading.

Today I wanted to do something different but still focus on scary and spooky things.  I do that so much here I didn't want to be redundant.  So I found a list on Oprahmag.com of the 33 Best Halloween Horror Books for Adults.  You can find the list HERE.  I decided to see if I have actually read 10 of them and feature them today.

Hope you enjoy!

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK - I'm actually surprised to see this on an adult list as I've read it YEARS ago.  I guess it's kind of a traditional Halloween one huh?

THE HUNGER - Oh please don't get me started on this one.

THE SHINING - Yes, one of my favorite books of all times!

NOS4A2 - AKA the book that never ended.

THE YEAR OF THE WITCHING - I was on a blog tour for this one earlier this year and really enjoyed it.  Glad to see it on the list.

THE GOOD HOUSE - A book I read and loved all the way back in 2005.

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE - Stormi and I actually buddy read this one this year. So glad I finally picked up a Christie book.

1984 - I know I read this one in high school.  It's probably scarier now than it was then.

So out of the 33 listed, I've read 8.  Not too great but not too shabby either.  Hop on over to the list and let me know how many you've read.

And yes, I'm glad THE HUNGER could make just one more list at Booker T's Farm.

  1. Ooh The Hunger- that looks like a trip. I'm wondering from your comment haha if it's a good trip or a bad trip. :) And I need to read some Christie!!!!

    1. I didn't like it but trust me, I'm the minority opinion on that one. I just expected something scarier from a retelling like that.

    1. I know. It was rather sporadic as well. You can tell it's comes from people who probably don't read horror - where's the vampires and the creature features!

  4. The Shining was such a good read.

  5. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark terrified me as a kid. I've thought about reading it again and seeing if it's as scary now.

  6. Well I've read three! The Shining, Frankenstein and Never Let Me Go. I do question the horror in a few of these selections!!!

  7. I've actually read 8 of the books on Oprah's list. More than I would have thought. THE SHINING is probably the spookiest book I've ever read and the creepiest movie. You can always count on Stephen King to scare the crap out of you!

    Happy TTT!

  9. Of your eight, I've read four: The Hunger, The Shining, 1984, and And Then There Were None. Fun list! :)

  10. Awesome list! I'm actually not that surprised that Scary Stories is on the adult list. The artwork is pretty scary and some of the things that happens in that series is pretty graphic.

    Here’s my TTT!

  13. I am also very curious about your thoughts on The Hunger! I loved it, but I can't tell if you loved or hated it ha. I also really want to read The Year of the Witching, I put it on my wishlist! I have only read THREE of 33 so that is a fail (I read Afterland, which I recommend, The Hunger, and Lord of the Flies but like a million years ago and I skimmed it so it barely counts hah).

  14. That's an interesting list on that link, though I have to say some of them are questionably "horror", lol! As expected, I've only read the newer stuff like The Hunger, NOS4R2, Year of the Witching..I really gotta hit up the classics.

  15. Scary Stories is an adult book? I don’t think so. I was obsessed with that book as a kid and memorized the stories so I could tell them at Girl Scout camp. I’ve read almost all the books on your list. I need to get to The Year Of The Witching ASAP.

    1. See so many of us are thinking the same thing. That's awesome that you memorized them so you could tell them. I hope you really enjoy The Year of the Witching.
