Furs-day Feature - A Little Bit of Everything All Rolled Into One

So my goal is to take part in the new feature Jo over at Jo's Book Blog has started at least once a month.  On Thursdays, she posts things related to our precious furbabies.  This week Cass is sharing "Books to Bark & Crow About" as he has discovered a series he thinks all pet lovers might like!

Hi guys, it's me Cass.  I sure hope you all are having a great summer.  Things here on The Farm are good, but hot.  Today, as you read this, we are celebrating July 4th with our family and we wish all of you that celebrate are having a safe and happy holiday.  And beware fireworks, too many pets and Vets don't like them so use sparingly please.

So here is a series that Mom has slowly been collecting and I thought I would share it with you guys.  I think the covers are super cool too!

Here's the synopsis for the first in the Pet Whisperer series.  I think the covers are great - especially the ones with the doggies,.  Hope I can convince Mom to read them soon.  I want to hear all about how great they are!

Books to Bark & Crow About - Cass Is In the House!

So hello everybody!  Cass here.  I'm a tad nervous because this is my first post all by myself.  As you can imagine, I'm missing my big brother Booker T something fierce but I promised him I'd take care of Mom and Dad and he handed the blogging reins over to me when he passed so I want to make him proud.

I scoured the internet and I think I found some good cozy mysteries for you guys.  Since summer is coming up, I figured some of you might like to sit by the pool (I wish - hey Mom, I want a pool!), lounge on the porch or have a beverage of choice (is there anything other than water?) while delving into a quaint new mystery.  So here's some I found.

TITLE: Needled to Death (A Helping Hands Mystery)

Mom loves a good cozy and the fact that this one has a therapy dog is definitely a plus!

TITLE: Pit & Miss Murder (Barkside of the Moon #4)

PUBLISHING DATE:  May 21, 2019

Everyone knows Smooshie is my book girlfriend and Mom loves this series. It comes out soon so I hope she can read it and it will cheer her up some.

TITLE: What's Bred in the Bone (XK9 Bones Trilogy #1)

This is a mix of science fiction and canines and for some reason, I found it really interesting. And since I love Star Wars, I may convince Mom to give this one a chance.

So there you have it guys.  I think I found some good books and hopefully made my brother proud!

Books to Bark and Crow About -

Hey guys!  It's me - Booker T!  Boy has it been a while.  Mom has been pretty stingy with computer time for me and Cass lately but I finally just put my paw down, grabbed the computer, and ran upstairs.  So basically I spent a few days under the weather this past week and while doing so, I found some new puppy titles coming out that I can't wait to share with you.  So grab your favorite beverage (mine is water) and read on!

TITLE: Alaskan Catch

AUTHOR: Sue Pethick

PUBLISHING DATE: September 24, 2019

Mom just read a book by this author last month and loved it so I know she'll have to have this one.

TITLE: The Dog I Loved
AUTHOR: Susan Wilson
PUBLISHING DATE: November 12, 2019

This author has written tons of books featuring us dogs and I really think Mom will enjoy reading about Dogtown.

TITLE: No Ordinary Dog
AUTHOR: Will Chesney
PUBLISHING DATE:  November 12, 2019

SYNOPSIS: Two dozen Navy SEALs descended on Osama bin Laden's compound in May 2011. After the mission, only one name was made public: Cairo, a Belgian Malinois and military working dog. As Cairo settled into a role as a reliable "spare dog," Will went back to his job as a DEVGRU operator, until a grenade blast in 2013 left him with a brain injury and PTSD. Unable to participate in further missions, he suffered from crippling migraines, chronic pain, memory issues, and depression. Modern medicine provided only modest relief. Instead, it was up to Cairo to save Will's life once more--and then up to Will to be there when Cairo needed him the most.  

I know Mom loves collecting/reading books about service dogs and seriously folks, that pup has the BEST EARS EVER! I wish mine would do that!

Books to Bark and Crow About - The They Call It Puppy Love Challenge Edition

Hey guys, it's me, Booker T.  Cass is sleeping so I'm going it alone this time.  Don't worry, I'll make sure to include him next month.  So as you know, Mom is hosting a Puppy Love Reading Challenge to celebrate Valentine's Day in February.  So I thought this month I'd showcase some "pup" books and series that I keep telling Mom she should read.  I thought maybe you guys would like them as well and it might even give you guys a few ideas.  So here we go.  

First up are the Stewart Hoag Mysteries.  This is a cozy series which sounds like it is more noir to me (look at me using the fancy words now).  There are 10 books in the series which started in the early 80s which is a LONG TIME ago for me.  I wasn't even born.  It features a ghost-writer, Stewart Hoag and his cat-food-eating dog Lulu.  

Next up is a series by Spencer Quinn.  I've long tried to convince Mom to read these because I know she'd love them.  He writes the Chet and Bernie series where Chet is the lovable dog narrator.  How can you go wrong with a dog narrator.  There are currently 8 books in the series and the 9th one comes out soon.  

And last but not least is strictly cozy series written by Annie Knox.  This is the Pet Boutiques series and the first three books have already been released.  And this one not only features a dog named Packer but also a cat named Jinxed.  See, I don't discriminate against cats ALL the time.  

So whatever you chose to read, I hope you have fun participating and Mom has promised that Cass and I can be more active here during February so I'll be seeing you around!

We're back!  It's us, Booker T and Cass and since Christmas seems to be all about giving and getting gifts, we've decided to gift you with our presents (we know Mom, it's PRESENCE).  It's been a while since we've shared some books with you but Mom made us a cool new graphic and we wanted to show it off.  So we've each pick 2 books which are coming out soon featuring fellow 4-legged friends.  Hope you enjoy!

This is the start of a new mystery series featuring a woman who trains cadaver dogs and her pup Luther.  What a cool job.  Hey Mom, can I be a cadaver dog??????  It releases in May 2019

PLEASE DON'T FEED THE MAYOR: SUE PETHICK

As you can tell, I'm exploring career options and if I was Mayor, Mom wouldn't have to be concerned about that stupid vicious dog law they're STILL trying to pass.  This tale is all about a Border Collie named Shep who wins a town's mayoral race by a landslide.  You can grab this one in February 2019 and I'm sure Mom will be reading it then as well

CASSIUS' PICKS

LUCK OF THE WITCH - K.E. O'CONNER

I think this is a cute pick for people who like cozy mysteries with a hint of supernatural.  Of course the main reason I picked it is because there's a cute sidekick named Wiggles.   I think he kind of looks like the dog down the street.  And as a bonus, this one is out NOW!

A DOG NAMED BEAUTIFUL - ROB KUGLER

So this is a non-fiction pick which Mom explained to me is another word for real life.  It's a story about a Marine, an extraordinary dog and a road trip.  People always seem to enjoy tales about military and dogs and rightfully so, both do so much awesome stuff for us.  This doesn't come out until May 2018 though.

So there you have it folks.  Hope everyone finds something they like.  And we both want to wish you the happiest and safest of holidays this year!  Hey Mom, how about Santa and his Elf?  Sounds like good jobs for us (Cass, you can be the elf).

Books To Bark (and Crow About) Dog Days of Summer Edition

Hello humans!  It's Booker T and Cass here and we have a special treat for you today.  Since Mom is participating in the Dog Days of Summer Readathon hosted by Jo's Book Blog and La La in the Library we thought we would share a few dogs book with you.  The first two are a series.  Mom looked long and hard after seeing the first one on Verushka's blog and even though she hasn't read it, when she just learned the second one was released, she started hunting for it too.  The series features a dog that likes to drink - Cass and I find that extremely funny!

Also, Cass demanded I show you the second one because of the title.  I told him it was about werewolves but he said it couldn't be because the cover looks like the Shaggy DA dog in the movie we watched why the folks were at work one day (shhhh... don't tell!)

The name's Gideon Tau, but everyone just calls me London. I work for the Delphic Division, the occult investigative unit of the South African Police Service. My life revolves around two things - finding out who killed my daughter and imagining what I'm going to do to the bastard when I catch him.

I have two friends. The first is my boss, Armitage, a fifty-something DCI from Yorkshire who looks more like someone's mother than a cop. Don't let that fool you. The second is the dog, my magical spirit guide. He talks, he watches TV all day, and he's a mean drunk.

Life is pretty routine - I solve crimes, I search for my daughter's killer. Wash, rinse, repeat. Until the day I'm called out to the murder of a ramanga - a low-key vampire - basically, the tabloid journalist of the vampire world. It looks like an open and shut case. There's even CCTV footage of the killer.

Except... the face on the CCTV footage? It's the face of the man who killed my daughter. I'm about to face a tough choice. Catch her killer or save the world? I can't do both.

It's not looking good for the world.

Three years ago, someone killed my daughter. I sacrificed everything (the human race included) to learn his name - and then had to allow that knowledge to be erased from my mind in order to save the world I'd doomed. Fantastic.

Now I have to start over from scratch, and who do I have to help me find my daughter's killer? The reanimated corpse of my boss, a low-rent P.I. who's heavily into conspiracy theories, and my alcoholic, foul-mouthed demonic sidekick dog.

Our journey will take us from Durban, South Africa to London, England, where we'll have to contend with Fae gangs fighting for territory, the murder-suicide of two Delphic agents and the seven deadly sins.

Oh, and did I mention planning a heist to break into the most secure bank in Faerie? Because that's on the agenda too. And if we fail? An ancient horned god will destroy London. (The city, not me. Although, to be fair, I don't think I'll survive either)

I had just turned fourteen years old the night my best friends and I decided to kill Mr. Martinsen. 
He was my friend. My mentor. I would even go so far as to say I loved him, as I looked up to Mr. Martinsen the same way I had looked up to my maternal grandfather, who died from a heart attack when I was ten. 
He was the best teacher I ever had. I will never forget him, or the knowledge he imparted to me, as long as I live. 
But on that summer evening just several weeks before I began my freshman year of high school, he gave my friends and me no choice. Things had gone too far. We had put it off for too long. 
We knew Mr. Martinsen had to die.

Books to Bark and Crow About #6

Hello fellow bloggers!  Cass and I sure hope you all had a wonderful June.  We're here and back on schedule.  We sure are glad June is over - we weren't sure Mom would make it.  So this month we are sharing three recently discovered novellas with you.  Mom owns the first one and you can be sure, she'll probably be grabbing the rest soon.  We both think the covers are pretty awesome and remind us of our St. Bernard twins who live a block over from us (don't tell, but we don't know their names.  Mom says it's a "dog" thing where instead of knowing people's names, you categorize them by the dogs they own.  Makes sense to us cause we've heard several people call Mom and Dad the "boxer parents."

It's New Year’s Eve and 20-year-old Emma Wright has a date with her crush—well, not a real date, but she can dream! Colby Davidson, the K9 search and rescue deputy, is allowing her to accompany him while he’s on patrol at the Ridgeway Illumination Festival. Though they are just friends, she’s still hoping for a possible kiss at the end of the festivities. 

When a stranger asks them to help take some pictures at the event, Emma and Colby are happy to oblige. But their assistance turns them into alibis for the man’s whereabouts while his girlfriend was killed. Most of the clues point to a robbery gone bad, but Emma doesn’t believe all of them point that way. Was it really a robbery or was it murder? 

It's Valentine's Day and 20-year-old Emma Wright just wants her crush to take notice of her. But Colby Davidson, the K9 search and rescue deputy only thinks of her as a kid sister. How will she get him to take her seriously? 

When her veterinarian boss calls her to pick up a cat at a potential crime scene, she finds herself at the house of the richest woman in Ridgeway. Her father—the sheriff—and Colby are there. They both dismiss the untimely death as a heart attack, but Emma finds clues that it might be something more. Did the software billionaire die of natural causes, or was it murder? 

It's St. Patrick's Day and 20-year-old Emma Wright is working hard at training five-month-old Molly, her foster puppy, to become a therapy dog. But her training coach and neighbor gets an emergency call, cutting the lesson short, and Emma volunteers to pick up her daughter at a St. Patrick's Day concert in town. 

When Emma arrives, the concert has just finished up, and the teenage girls are visiting with the band. Then the lead singer stumbles and falls to the ground, dead. Emma becomes the only level head in the crowd and calls for help. When the Sheriff and Colby arrive, they investigate it as a potential accident. But Emma finds subtle clues that something more sinister is going on. Did the leader of the band die in an accident, or was it murder? 

So don't you guys agree?  These would be perfect short reads for the August Dog Days of Summer Jo and LaLa are hosting.

Books to Bark (and Crow) About #5 - Mom's Life's a Mess!

So we kept telling Mom we were due a blog feature and she kept ignoring us (however, we can cut her a break because June has been kind of traumatic for her).  Finally, one day at lunch, it dawned on her and then she was all dog treats and apologies.  This week, Cass and I are each sharing a book we think Mom ought to purchase, as well as one which is already on her shelves.

BOOKER T'S PICK:

There's a new dog next door which is driving me crazy.  Personally I could care less about him because I know firsthand if he keeps snapping at me, Cass will take care of him.  (yea Mom, I hear ya, it's not him, it's his OWNERS....blah  blah blah).  So in honor of Rodney, I'm featuring some Doggy-horror.  You know that is completely unlike me so you can only imagine the stress I'm under!  "Dog Days O'Summer" is what they call a coming of age story and I think it's about werewolves but the cover looks more like the "Shaggy DA."  Or at least Mom thinks it does.  "Rodney" oops I mean "Hell Hound" is a book Mom's had on her shelf for some time.

CASSIUS' PICK:

  So since brother went all dark and twisty, I'm going to share two mysteries books with you.  Dogs are popping up all over the place in mysteries and for good reason - we're darn smart.  Plus we can be both sneaky and cute - both which can be used to get what we want.  I think both of these would be good books to take our mind off of Rodney and unlike Booker T, I'm pretty sure Mom ALREADY owns both of them.

Books to Bark (and Crow) About #5

Hello humans!  Hope all the Moms out there of all kinds had a wonderful Mother's Day.  In order to celebrate the occasion, Mom and Dad said Cass and I could each pick a book off of Mom's Amazon Wishlist (by the way woman, that thing needs series editing) and showcase it this week.  We are also buying them for her with the stipulation that she has to read them AND review them before the year is out (that way MY idea, although Cass strongly concurred).  So here's what we finally decided to get her.  And of course, they are both books we thing need more attention!

BOOKER T's PICK:

We had to preorder this one because it doesn't come out until June 7th, but Mom assured me that isn't too far away.  I think she'll like the mystery aspect of it and of course, the MC is a pet portraitist.  

SYNOPSIS:  Agatha Christie meets Downton Abbey in this delightful new series introducing pet portraitist and amateur super-sleuth, Susie Mahl.

In the village of Spire, murder is afoot. Rich landowner Alexander, 9th Earl of Greengrass, is caught with his trousers down in the village graveyard before meeting a gruesome end. Luckily Susie Mahl happens to be on hand. With her artist’s eye for detail and her curious nature she is soon on the scent of the murderer… A BRUSH WITH DEATH combines a country house murder with a fascinating insight into the life of a working artist.

CASSIUS' PICK:

So I know Mom is getting ready to start Meg, and hey, I'm all for horror.  However, I found a book on her wishlist that I bet she had NO CLUE was by the same author...and yes, it involves pups.  Plus, Booker T may not realize it but every once in a while, especially during the summer, Mom picks up a few "lighter" reads.  

SYNOPSIS:  Meet Dr. Nancy Beach, a relationship counselor who hosts a local radio show called Love's a Beach. One problem: The relationship guru cant seem to make her own relationships work, sending her credibility and ratings into the toilet. Meet Jacob Cope, a walking thesaurus of phobias -- a Lehman Brothers casualty who's lost his job and swagger and now yearns to be a ventriloquist. When Nancy and Jacob are set up on a blind date and hit it off, their siblings, desperate to be rid of them, encourage the young couple to move in together. When the honeymoon stage abruptly ends, Jacob attempts to mend the fence by adopting a dog; a big dog and Nancy flips out . . . until she realizes the dog trainer's techniques can be used to housebreak Jacob and save her radio career.

So overall, we think we did pretty good.  We also think you guys should check out these books as well.

PS - Dad doesn't need anymore training but there are probably some guys out there who do!

Books to Bark (and Crow) About #4

Guess who's baaaacccckkkk???? It's me - Booker T!  Sorry this is a week late but you know what they say, better late than never.  Mom was ill last week and I didn't harass her to fire up the computer so Cass and I could play.  My paws still aren't to adept at hitting that on and off button.  

So this week I wanted to showcase a series which Mom has been collecting for a while.  I know she read the first book and I've seen her slip some others in the house when Dad wasn't looking.  I also just caught sight of a new Book Outlet order she is sending in and I think the last 2 books of this series are on it.  I heard her mumbling something about this series being perfect for her "Dog Days of Summer" participation in August.  I really don't understand the whole dog days of summer concept.  I mean seriously folks, every day is a dog day at our house!  Anyway, on to the books!

Here's a synopsis of the first one:

Seriously, these books contain interesting mysteries, a snarky female cop and an adorable police dog - what's not to love?

Hello my fellow bloggers!  Cassius here.  Guess what?  Booker T is letting me have a go at things today.  My very first all alone blog post.  Of course, Mom kind of convinced him he had the last two months and you know he's staring at me from the couch while I'm typing this and I've heard "Cassius, don't mess this up" a few times but I've assured him AND Mom that I got this.

So this month I'm sharing with you books about dogs and other flying creatures (stop staring at me Booker T!  Dogs can fly - you've seen me run and jump and know how fast I am.  I'm sure that's what flying feels like).  So I spent some time surfing the net - hey, maybe I should try surfing,  Oops, I forgot, no ocean.  Oh well, here's some interesting books I've recently added on Mom's Amazon wishlist.

The Owlmen: If They See You, They Will Come For You

This one sounds pretty scary and features witches and the occult.  

Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2)

I saw where Mom already has the first one on her Kindle and isn't this the prettiest cover ever????

Plus it's purple, and that's Mom's favorite color so I know she'll want this one.

Antiques Wanted (Trash 'n' Treasure Mystery #12)

So Booker isn't the only one who pays attention.  I know for a fact Mom has read the first 3 or 4 of this cozy series (I liked getting snuggly and cozy) and really liked them.  She'll never be able to resist this cover and will probably look into starting the series again once she sees it.

The Pit List Murders (Barkside of  the Moon Mystery #3)

Mom LOVES this one and can't wait for this next installment to be released.  Plus, Renee has been a guest on the blog and even shared pictures of her fur children so that makes her pretty awesome in my book.  Looks like Smooshie might have a new puppy pal in this one!

This Dog For Hire (Rachel Alexander & Dash #1)

This is an older series I "dug" up which features an investigator and her canine assistant.  Gotta persuade Mom to at least give the first one a try.  Opps, what's this 1-click thing?  I don't think she has a choice now huh? (Stop your snickering Booker T, like you've never had your paw hit the wrong computer key!)

So there you have it guys.  My very first solo feature.  Hope I've shared with you some books which might interest you - cause then I might get to do this again.
