Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings to spotlight highly anticipated books. It is based on the Waiting on Wednesday meme which used to be hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.
FROM GOODREADS: Beatrice Hartley has no plans for the summer—except a secret reunion with her five former best friends.
Once upon a time, back at Darrow-Harker School, they were the cool kids, the beautiful ones. Then the shocking death of Jim—their creative genius—changed everything.
One year after graduation, Beatrice is returning to Wincroft—the seaside estate where they spent so many nights sharing secrets, crushes, plans to change the world—in the hopes that she will get to the bottom of the dark questions gnawing at her about Jim’s death. She suspects that her friends knew much more than they ever let on.
But as the night plays out in a haze of stilted jokes and unfathomable silence, answers seem unlikely. Her friends are all so different now, so splintered and lost. It’s too late. Beatrice senses she’s going to live the rest of her life far away from them, never knowing what really happened.
Then night fades to morning. A thunderstorm rages, and a mysterious man knocks on the door. He looks like the exhausted ringmaster of a cheap traveling circus. Blithely, he announces the impossible.
And so begins the Neverworld Wake. The nightmare. The nothingness.
WHY I CAN'T WAIT: Besides the fact that this guy sounds like someone who might show up randomly in my neighborhood, I really want to know what is going on and what he announces. I've never read "Night Film" but I do own it and this sounds like it could be a good followup.
WHAT BOOK CAN'T YOU WAIT FOR THIS WEEK????
I'm worried about your neighbourhood now! I'm intrigued by what this guy does...
ReplyDeleteMe too. Also, see Verushka's answer for neighborhood shenanigans :)
DeleteI'm with Chuckles -- what is going on in your neighbourhood?!?! And also: what on earth does he announce?!
ReplyDeleteWell, a few years ago the guy at the very end of the street poured gasoline on himself and was threatening to light himself on fire if his wife didn't let him back in the house. Firetrucks came and they finally ended up blasting him with the hose so he wasn't flammable. He flew half-way down the street.
DeleteOh my goodness Barb! That's awful! Glad he's okay, even he did go flying. Are they still there?
DeleteHe's fine and I think he was probably so drunk he didn't feel it. They were renters so happily they are gone. Don't know what ever happened to him but I never saw him on the news again. (he made top story that night)
DeleteThat's awful but conjures up humorous images in my head all the same!
DeleteI'm worried about you're neighborhood too. LOL This does sound interesting. And I like the cover.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds pretty strange, but that doesn't surprise me because of the author. I still need to read Night Film!
ReplyDeleteDon't think I would answer the door! However, the book does sound good. I've not read Night Film either, but I think I own it. I should look. LOL
ReplyDeleteAfter I read "One of us is lying" and "The Broken Girls" I realized I like YA mysteries! Especially in school settings. I hope this one is good and I cannot wait to hear how you liked it!
ReplyDeleteNight Film is one of my favorites and I've been a little ehhhh about her switching to YA but I'm still excited for this one.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that actually looks pretty good.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds super interesting. I'm really curious about what that guy at the door says. Great pick! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pick! Definitely sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteErg... I'm very much hoping he doesn't turn up in my neighbourhood - this one sounds really creepy! I hope you enjoy it, Barb:)
ReplyDeleteThis one does have a very eerie feel to it. I have read anything by this author before. I hope that it is one you enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds eery, but really interesting. I hope you enjoy it!

I saw this one a few weeks ago. The tension should be pretty intense and it sounds like one of those books, where a stranger unleashes repressed chaos. Hope it's great!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious as to who in your own neighborhood might coming knocking like that! lol Hope the story is a good one!
ReplyDeleteOoh I don't know this one. Sounds great though- I like the mysterious tone of this one. Oh and I saw your answer above about the neighbor guy- yikes!
ReplyDeleteHmm, sounds intriguing. I've never heard of the book or the author, and I think it might be a bit too strange for me, but I'll keep an eye on this one.
