Weekly Reads (04/19/18)

Let me start out by saying "Oh Spring, where are you???" because we're still having cold temps and snow about every other day.  Then on the off days, we have anywhere for 50-80 degree weather.  I'm confused, my wardrobe is confused, the dogs are confused... However, Mr. Barb's health is not confused because he was mostly better, went back to work and then relapsed again so he's been off staying with the pups most of this week.  They are enjoying it though.

It's been a bad week for movies - we haven't really found many worth watching.  We did end up watching some REALLY BAD b-movie called "Bus Party to Hell."  It was bad, yet entertaining.  I mean, it was so bad, you laughed and had to finish watching once you stated.  But please, don't rent it.  I couldn't recommend it to anyone.  It's hockey playoff time so we've been watching the Penguins some.  I'm also kind of hooked on "Good Girls" which is a newer series on NBC.  Definitely interested and yes, I would say check it out.

I have gotten quite a bit of reading done this week and I'm looking forward to more this weekend.  As you might know, I'm doing a buddy read of "Dread Nation" with Maria and I just finished a book for a buddy read with Stormi - "Fiction Can Be Murder."  I hope to start "The Vampire Within" and finish up "Let Me Lie" this coming week.

So in Prince news, Minneapolis law enforcement came out with a decision yesterday that no one would be charged in the death of Prince.  It was a decision which was a long time coming and I am a little saddened.  However, the investigation did show that he was unaware he was taking a product laced with Fetanyl and believed he was taking Vicodin to manage chronic pain.  Yes, he became addicted to opioids to manage pain but it was nice to know he was not intentionally taking something which has been known to automatically kill someone with one use.  Tomorrow is the 2-year anniversary of his death so who knows, maybe I'll watch "Purple Rain" this weekend too!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  1. It's crazy how much the legal drug world has affected our celebrities. Prince was a death that really hurt my soul. Growing up watching him bang out some intense notes and rock it. I just love everything about him!

The Bus to Hell sounds right up my alley! I may have to watch it just for fun now. I'll have the popcorn ready! Let Me Lie looks good!

    1. Me too. We're supposed to be in the 60's all week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that winter has went away for good!

  3. I hope Mr. Barb is feeling better. My husband and daughter are sick too. I'm afraid I'll be next, but I'm fighting it as best I can. Your weather has been crazy! Our temperatures have been fluctuating too, but not nearly as much as yours. I do think it's playing havoc on all our allergies though (as if the colds weren't enough). I hope you have a great weekend, Barb.

    1. He's doing better but it just won't let go! Saw a new doctor Friday so I hope he's on the way to recovery now.

  4. I hadn't heard the Prince news... thanks for sharing. And oh I might have a movie for ya, if you have Netflix. It's Orbiter 9 and it was pretty good!

Sorry to hear the sickness is hanging on. We've had the same kind of weather although maybe we're turning a corner here? It's supposed to be nicer next week...

  7. I'm really sorry that Mr Barb has had a relapse. I'm sure the furry dudes will be giving him lots of love and attention though.

  8. This weather is nuts. I don't know how to dress and I have had a few days that I felt bad. I want some warmer temps. It really doesn't seem like Prince has been gone for 2 years already. Such a loss.

    1. I think I'm finally on the upswing. I was never as bad as Mr. Barb but was definitely struggling to keep healthy beside of him.

  9. Sending you good weather vibes. It's been beautiful here and I'm loving it. We haven't reached the point where I'm melting so for now I'm enjoying it. :)

    1. We've had some rain this week but at least it's been warmer. I refuse to break the boots back out so sandals it will be - cold or no cold.

  10. You know, there's a teacher at work who was very sick, came back feeling better, and then relapsed. Could be the flue. Hope Mr. Barb will be better VERY soon!! :)

That's really crazy weather you've been having! Of course, here in Miami, there's no snow. (And I wish there were! Never seen the stuff!) We mostly have summer all year long! Lol. However, we do have some cold days, mostly in January and February. Occasionally, we will also have cold weather in December. Lol. But our temps have been fluctuating some, too; two weeks ago, we had temps in the 80s during the day, and in the 60s and even 50s at night!

About your reads -- I am HUGELY enjoying "Dread Nation"!! I think it's because it's not heavy on the blood and gore, not is it all that scary, so far, anyway. It's the female MC -- Jane McKeene -- that has me enjoying it so much. The author is using her as a mouthpiece to criticize racism, and it rings true even in our own times. It's just AWESOME!! :)

As for your other reads, I might be interested in "The Vampire Within", except that I HATE that cover. Honestly, it's SO cliche! I've just checked out "Let Me Lie" on Goodreads, and it's definitely not for me! Lol.

I was so saddened by Prince's very untimely death....It seems as if the BEST people die young.... I'm glad, though, that it was accidental, and not intentional. Very sad, though. :(

Hope you're having a GREAT day!! Sending some good vibes to Mr. Barb!! HUGS TO YOU AND THE PUPS, AND WOOF, WOOF TO THEM!! <3 <3 <3 :) :) :)
